My family and I love this place! I could sit by the lake forever. The cabin is quaint and comfortable. It's a wonderful place to connect with family and friends or to decompress and enjoy nature. Thank you Susie and Ernie for sharing your beautiful home. Looking forward to next time.
What a lovely, peaceful property! It was perfect for us. Everything we needed was on hand and the home was very comfortable. Susie and Ernie were most hospitable and their restaurant recommendation was spot on. We hope to return very soon.
Beautiful location, but house was DIRTY...
My family and I stayed for several days at this rural property on a lovely pond. The view was lovely, as pictured. The fishing was all my husband and kids had hoped for. Boats and life jackets were provided. Vintage vibe was fun, though things in general were a bit disorganized, mostly downstairs. Location was about 20 minutes from much we wanted to do in St. Louis.
Please note, there is no WiFi - not that it was promised, but I just wasn't expecting it - and the TV reception is spotty.
Window air conditioning units did a great job at cooling the house but were quite loud. I had to wear earplugs to sleep.
Although the beds had fresh sheets and the bathroom had clean towels, the house in general was dirty. Sinks and toilets were clean on the inside, but the base of the toilet and the pedestal of the upstairs bathroom sink were crusty with easily visible dust and dirt. Bath mats looked as if they hadn't been washed in at least a season. Baseboards and baseboard heating units were thick with dust. Most disappointing was the kitchen: chaos in the cabinets and drawers, with flatware and dishes looking as if they had been tossed inside. Countertops and sink were wiped clean, but crumbs from a past visitor were still in the toaster oven and on top of the microwave. Refrigerator was fairly clean. I usually love cooking extra special things for my family while on vacation, but I did not do so in this kitchen.
Futon cover was so dirty that we covered it with another blanket before we sat on it. Outdoor enclosed porch had a slight musty smell, perhaps to be expected.
Lighting in general was good, compared to many other places we have stayed: lots of task lighting as well as a central ceiling light in many places. But again, some fixtures were dirty and buggy.
The entire house needed a good spring cleaning!
Overall, this house had the ideal location we were looking for, as well as a great vintage feel. But I was really disappointed by the disorganization and lack of cleanliness, and those things ruined my stay and even made my kids feel uncomfortable. I hate to leave such a negative review, but these issues matter to me, and they may matter to others as well.
We had such an awesome and peaceful time! Loved seeing deer in the backyard and the horrible was wonderful!
Quiet and Convenient
We very much enjoyed our stay at this property. When we arrived, we were immediately taken with the peaceful location. We remarked that it felt quite like home right away. The property had everything we needed kitchen utensils, paper products, towels, etc. The hot tub provided a relaxing way to spend time in the evenings, listening to the frogs chirp. The drive to St. Louis was quick and convenient. Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay.
Serene Retreat with Great Ammenities
We stayed for a long weekend at Susie and Ernie’s property in mid-May, and we couldn’t have asked for a better getaway! The kitchen is well stocked with anything you may need for cooking meals, which was a great bonus. Plenty of DVDs for a rainy evening came in handy, too! The views onto the private lake are so peaceful, with the entire backyard a private oasis to enjoy from the hot tub or picnic bench. Locally, we were able to head to a farm for their Strawberry Fest 15 minutes away, and downtown St. Louis was a quick drive. We will be back!
Relax. Grocery store within 4 miles. Most guests just like to stay at the Lodge and fish, hot tub, cook, bake and most of all relax.
