Enjoy the Adirondack lifestyle in one of the original Lake Placid Club Cottages. Elms Cottage was built in 1926 and retains its original charm with its pine hardwood floors, screened porches, stone terrace, and stone fireplace. Rustic elegance with top of the line furnishings. Unobstructed views of the High Peaks and the Olympic bobsled run are available all year from every room except one. The stone terrace, with views of the Sentinel Range and the bobsled run, is a wonderful gathering area with a large lawn.
There are four bedrooms, each with its own en suite bath. The master, with a king bed and screened porch, is on the second floor. The second bedroom upstairs has two twins with original Lake Placid Club iron frames. One of the first floor bedrooms has a queen bed. The other is equipped as a second gathering area with a queen sleeper sofa, TV with DVD player, and screened porch. All beds, bedding, and towels were recently upgraded and replaced. (The sleeper sofa is a sling style; i.e., there is not an iron bar across the middle of the bed).
The living room and dining room are comfortably furnished in the Adirondack style. Huge windows provide stunning views of the High Peaks and fabulous sunsets. Wood is provided for roaring fires in the original stone fireplace. The fully-equipped gourmet kitchen has a new dual fuel range, a full range of small appliances, and plenty of wine glasses. Full laundry room with new, large capacity washer and dryer.
There is so much to do! It's an easy walk from Elms Cottage to the Village of Lake Placid, Mirror Lake, and Lake Placid itself. In the Village and around the lakes you'll find shopping, the Olympic hockey stadium and ice rink, public tennis courts, boat rentals, equestrian stables, restaurants, and pubs.
You can also walk to the Lake Placid Club golf courses. Challenge yourself on the two championship courses or enjoy a quick nine holes on the Club's executive course. In the winter, you can ski from ELMS Cottage to trails that crisscross the golf courses. Downhill skiing at Whiteface Mountain and cross-country skiing at the Olympic Sports Complex at Mt. Van Hoevenberg are a short drive away. Renters have access to the Lake Placid Club/Crowne Plaza private beach on Mirror Lake, a 5-minute walk from the cottage. The beach usually opens on July 1.
Lake Placid, the home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics, is 2 hours from Albany, 2 hours from Burlington, VT, 4.5 hours from NYC, and 2.5 hours from Montreal.

After many years of renting vacation homes and staying at hotels in the Lake Placid area, we decided we would like a place we could count on for great views, comfy furnishings and beds, and amenities like good cookware and plenty of wine glasses. When one of the original Lake Placid Club cottages became available we couldn't resist. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
It's an easy walk to the charming Village of Lake Placid, yet you feel like you are miles away. The unobstructed views of the High Peaks - from every room except one bedroom - are stunning. The original stone terrace, which faces the High Peaks, is a relaxing spot to start and end your days in the Adirondacks.
On September 26, 2014 seven of us from Western New York traveled to ELMS COTTAGE for a weeks stay. Our goal was to take in the autumnal splendor of the Adirondacks. After researching rental houses in Lake Placid, we chose ELMS because of its size, location and because of the photos with the listing. We chose well. The house exceeded our requirements. We found the location perfect, within walking distance of much of what the village offers. Fully equipped in every way, beautifully decorated, and very clean.
The setting of the house was most impressive. Lots and lots of room with a large country table for big dinners and games. The best of the house is the back porch, completely furnished with rockers and a breathtaking view. We spent many hours watching the scenery change every few minutes. Only the magical colors of the season could outshine ELMS. Our week was perfect in every way.
Our second 2 week stay and never disappointing . It is a perfect place , all the comforts and amenities for an ADK vacation , every room had its own bathroom , a screened porch on one bedroom, a huge porch with loads of comfortable rockers, very convenient to the town and the two lakes, beautiful mountains to enjoy. All the rooms are a joy and fully equipped with anything you might need for cooking, laundry, relaxing. To bad doggies aren't allowed, they would love it too !

I've returned to the Elms for 5 years now, and am never staying anywhere else! Comforts of home, but more so, with private bathrooms, a wonderfully equipped kitchen, thoughtfully chosen framed artwork in every room and a view all day long of these very special mountains. And always spotlessly clean! I can relax here the moment I walk in the door! I will definetly return.
We stayed in the Elms cottage with 2 other couples for a long weekend. The house was spotless! It was big enough to accommodate 3 couples and then some. Everyone had their own rooms and bathrooms. The fire place kept us warm each evening. It was a quick walk across the pond into town and the Lake Placid Brewer was right at the end of the street!! I would absolutely recommend staying in the Elms to anyone looking to get away and stay in a place that feels like home! We will be back for sure!
What a fabulous place for a vacation or getaway! We were with two other couples, had fantastic shared space in the living room and kitchen but privacy with our own bedrooms and bathrooms. The views were gorgeous, the house spotless, with all the amenities one could ever want. I have never stayed at a place that was so well thought through and organized! I wish we could have stayed longer, I would definitely rent this place when we return to Lake Placid. Our first stay in the Adirondacks and not much else is going to ever compare!
Not missing a thing, and everything there was top-notch! Four couples spent a long weekend in this VRBO and all we could say from the moment we stepped inside was, "we have to rent this place again next year". The location was excellent, view beautiful, and house was gorgeous. We had everything we needed and then some. The house was comfortable, spotless and furnished beautifully. This was a definite winner!
The center of Lake Placid Village is less than a ten minute walk (.2 miles) from ELMS Cottage. The Lake Placid Club golf courses, Jack Rabbit hiking trail, public tennis courts and public beach are all an even easier walk. Renters have access to the Lake Placid Club private beach on Mirror Lake (opens approx. July 1)- just a 5-min walk from the cottage, and to cross-country ski trails on the Lake Placid Club golf course. You can walk to Lake Placid lake as well.
