Overview

About the property

Lodge, 8 Bedrooms + Loft, 8.5 Baths, (Sleeps 16-20)

What sets the Wayward Moose Lodge apart from the rest of the properties in the Asheville area? Its location has to be first on the list. You will feel secluded, having a mountain top with incredible scenic views all to yourself, but you in fact will be 5-10 minutes from shopping and 10-15 minutes from eclectic downtown Asheville. You will find some of the best hiking, fishing, and white water the region has to offer within an hours drive. The Mountains to the Sea Trail and Blue Ridge Parkway will literally be a few hundred feet out your back door.

The second thing that sets us apart is much more mundane but seems to be important to many of our guests and that is the fact that each of the eight spacious bedroom has its own bathroom. Two of these eight bathrooms have air jetted tubs and the master suite has a claw foot tub as well as large shower.

You can’t overlook the view. Actually you can, all you want, as it will be staring you in the face about anywhere you are at the Wayward Moose Lodge. My favorite vantage point is from a rocking chair on one of the extensive porches. There is no better way to end a day than to relax with family and friends on the porch in the evening, soaking in the last remnants of daylight on the mountain peaks in the distance.

When you find yourself having to go inside you will enjoy a lodge type setting with log walls and vaulted ceilings. There is a large great room that is a perfect place for gatherings of any sort and this is serviced by a professional style kitchen. All of these features make the Wayward Moose Lodge a perfect place for family reunions, wedding parties and corporate retreats.

This place has it all!

  • 5 of 5

I recently wrapped up a 5-day family get together at the lodge, and on multiple occasions I was given compliments for finding such a great location for the family. In fact, just a few days into the trip we all decided to come back to the lodge again next year. The lodge was the most well accommodated rental I've ever been to, from the amazing kitchen to the size of the bedrooms with a bathroom for each couple. We also loved the close proximity to downtown Asheville, which was hard to find for such large groups. I can't say enough about our stay and l'm already looking forward to the next visit.

Thanks again!

Lovely Lodge

  • 5 of 5

The Lodge was much more lovely and comfortable than expected!

It had all of the amenities in the house one could want. A beautiful setting and living space...and so close to downtown.

The driveway upwards close to the house was a little treacherous for a standard car, but managed. An SUV is easier to get over the terrain.

Everyone enjoyed the Lodge and thought it a wonderful spot for group reunions.

Wayward Moose Lodge is fantastic.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Wayward Moose Lodge for our family reunion over Labor Day weekend. It was perfect for our group of 20. The eight bedrooms, each with their own bathrooms, made the accommodations for the families very comfortable. Older kids had their own room with loft. The kitchen is huge and enabled us to hire a chef -- Michelle Kelly -- for a cook-out dinner during football games. The lovely deck has great views. After our first trip up, the winding, steep road to the lodge was not intimidating -- despite some rain and mud! The Mountain to Sea Trail is right out back and great for family hikes. We'll stay here again!

Secluded, Quiet, and Just What We Needed!

  • 5 of 5

We had a group of 7 stay for a long Girls' Weekend. It was wonderful! The main cabin is spacious, well-equipped in the kitchen and the perfect place to hang out and talk, whether it be at the dining room table, the living area or the porch. The view is spectacular and we took lots of pictures. For the walkers in our group, the driveway proved to be an excellent workout! The drive is a bit of a haul but slow and steady, especially at night, gets you there just fine. The second cabin was just as beautifully decorated and other than the acorns pinging on the roof throughout the night, was just as quiet. We had great cell phone coverage. Thank you for a wonderful stay; we will definitely keep The Wayward Moose Lodge on our list for future weekends.

Everything anticipated and more

  • 5 of 5

The Lodge was perfect for our reunion of older couples. The road up was not a problem at all. The kitchen was wonderful for those of us who like to cook and the porches and views were a delight in the evenings. Simms is very friendly and helpful. Hope to make this annual event.

Spacious and comfortable home for large groups

  • 4 of 5

This was the perfect home for our large family gathering of 20. All the adult couples had privacy with their individual bedroom/bathroom combinations while the chidren were able to comfortably "bunk up" in bedrooms with multiple sleeping spots and bathrooms for each room.

The kitchen is extremely well appointed with pots, pans, dishware, two dishwashers, and industrial coffee maker!!

We never felt crowded in the the living space as the rooms are open and flow well into one another. Additionally the wrap around deck, complete with rocking chairs and hammock, allowed for overflow into the beautiful mountain air.

The house is a "stand alone" property. There is nothing else around it once you ascend the 1 mile driveway. There are hiking trails adjacent to the property for easy access into the Blue Ridge network of trails.

The driveway is steep with several switchbacks. It is a gravel driveway with many potholes and dirt areas that quickly become muddy when it rains. No special vehicle is needed but it does require concentration to go up and down (espcecially after dark).

Once down the mountain, access to shopping, restaurants, gas stations and the main road is easy.

We had a few issues during our stay which required contacting the owner. He was quick to respond and to help in any way we needed.

For a peaceful and relaxing time in the mountains for a large group, this house can't be beat.
