Everyone needs a Place to retreat, relax, refresh, rejuvenate. A Place to experience and enjoy. A Place to Laugh with your loved ones. We have a beautiful, peaceful, comfy (1500 sq ft) cabin on the edge of a national forest where the stars are close enough to touch, the wind murmurs over the mountains and through the trees, the wildlife (elk, deer, bear, mountain lions, mountain sheep, coyotes, and hundreds of birds and other small critters) are at home. Yet there is unique shopping, dining and entertainment within easy driving distance. Come Learn new things about the wonders of our world, Love the mountains and crisp mountain air, Laugh often and loudly. Come Learn, Love and Laugh! Everyone Needs a Laughing Place!

PLEASE NOTE: US HIGHWAY 34 FROM JUST WEST OF LOVELAND TO BEYOND DRAKE WILL BE CLOSED FROM OCTOBER 2017 THROUGH MAY 2018 FOR REPAIRS TO THE HIGHWAY FROM FLOOD DAMAGE IN 2013. ACCESS TO THE LAUGHING PLACE WILL BE ONLY FROM ESTES PARK THROUGH GLEN HAVEN. ACCESS TO ESTES PARK WILL BE THROUGH BOULDER OR LONGMONT/LYONS.

Why the Owner Chose Drake: We love this location because it borders Roosevelt National Forest, giving us abundant space, quiet and peaceful tranquility. It is conveniently located close to the beauty and majesty of Rocky Mountain National Park. Estes Park is a unique community we enjoy visiting all year round.

We come here to retreat: rest, rejuvenate, reconnect. Our children bring friends. Our family reunions happen here. Long weekends here are highly anticipated. The days are spectacular and we love to spend the quiet evenings reading, snoozing, visiting, playing games, working puzzles, Laughing! We hope you find this little spot in the mountains as special as we do.

Gazebo and decks are gorgeous!

  • 4 of 5

This was an ideal property for us because of the varied ages of our family members - from over 60 to under 3 ! The kitchen was extremely well stocked, and the sheets, blankets, pillows and beds all very comfortable and very well maintained. There were lots of games, toys and puzzles. The outdoor grill, hammock and horseshoes were great. While there was great hiking around the property itself, it was somewhat challenging to be so far away from Estes Park and/or Loveland, the nearest towns.

Beautiful quiet place

  • 5 of 5

It was a delight staying at 'Laughing Place' and it definitely made our spirits soar and laugh -- especially watching the hummingbirds buzzing all around, and the chipmunks 'laughing' from the rocks below. So tranquil, and comfortable both inside and on the deck overlooking the mountains. We found it easy to relax in the cosy family environment and really wished we could stay longer and learn the game of horseshoes! Highly recommended to anyone who wants a place to get away from it all, but also very accessible to nearby Estes Park and the beautiful Rocky Mountain National Park.

Stunning Views, Beautiful Home, and Generous Provisions!!

  • 5 of 5

Grandma's 80th birthday celebration was the catalyst for staying at The Laughing Place. Our party consisted of 10 people from 5-81 years-old. Our family has stayed in three other cabins in Colorado and this was our favorite. This place felt like we were home. You could tell the owners are thoughtful and generous.

Grandma was delighted with a view of Long's Peak, her favorite mountain. My husband and I loved visiting the gazebo with the swing starring over the cliff to an breath-taking mountain scene watching the hummingbirds visit the wildflowers. My kids enjoyed climbing on the rocks and building onto the fort above the gazebo.

This place provided the most generous provisions and well stocked home that I have seen in a rental place. They had two refrigerators/freezers, which we used, items such as ziplock bags, laundry detergent, towels, trash bags, dish soap, etc. We tried to bring most of our supplies and cooked our meals in this place. The kitchen was fully stocked and even had a couple spices we forgot plus coconut and olive oil (we later left a jar to replace what we used). I did bring an Instant Pot and ceramic griddle. They also had a lot of VHS tapes and videos that were family friendly to watch upstairs plus lovely books to include a great one on hiking with children.

We did two hikes based on the cabin's book one along The Big Thompson River to the Deserted Village and one from the Alpine Visitor's Center in RMNP to the Continental Divide (saw around 2 doz elk and lots of marmots plus stunning views of Alpine lakes and snow covered mountains).

Grandma and Grandpa were able to park in the garage and walk straight into their bedroom, go into the kitchen, and walk outside all on one level. Grandpa stayed the whole week in the cabin as he has a hard time getting around. I loved that they had enough seating for our entire family to talk and sing in the living room at night. We paid the additional fee for the two dogs (we only stay at places where we can take the two older labs).

This place is amazing but I would like to point areas to be aware. First, the road up to the cabin along the steep canyon is about 2 miles and has very tight switchbacks that allow for one car to go around in places. Also, the main dining room table only sat 6. We had the kids go outside to eat during most meals but in our previous cabins we were all able to eat at one table.

I would highly recommend this place!!

Wonderful views

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved the cabin! It had everything we needed for our family of 10 and having no connection to the outside world made it even better. The views from the deck both in the morning and at night are breathtaking. We are hoping to be able to come back again! Thank you for allowing us to opportunity to enjoy your beautiful home. Wonderful place to get away from it all

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED the Laughing Place! My kids were not so excited about the no Wi-Fi but they did survive! Loved watching the stars at night from the upper deck. Saw lots of wildlife loved hiking around close to the property. Views are absolutely amazing. Kitchen and grill had all the necessary equipment. The drive up the mountain was an adventure I would recommend to be home before dark. Thanks for a memorable trip.

Owner's Response: So glad you had a great time! No wifi is a choice we make - sometimes we wish we had it too, but all-in-all - being "off the grid" is worth it. Come again!
