We moved to West Glacier in 1967 and lived there until my parents bought this very home from the Park in 1969 and moved it to it's current location. My Dad was employed with Glacier National Park as an Electrician in Communications. If you have ever read the book, 'The Night of the Grizzlies,' you would have read a couple pages about my Dad as he was working when the story took place. Having grown up here and embracing as much as there is to offer, I would LOVE to share my knowledge of our valley and perhaps help guide you to a fullfilled adventure during your stay.
Glenn or Kelli purchased this chateau / country house in 1969
This is home to us and we wanted to be able to share with others all our property has to offer with the change of all four seasons. Winter is SPECTACULAR with an average snow fall of 120'. Spring has it's very own life and beauty. Summer, what can we say; hiking, biking, lakes, the Park, golfing on at least 7 different courses. Fall is absolutely stunning with all the change of colors, hunting in the Rocky Mountains or just simply staying cozy by the fire with a book as the chill outside creates our grand scenery.
A prime location only 20 minutes from Glacier International Airport. Our property is secluded, with a seasonal creek, large yard and horse shoe pits. We are surrounded with mature timber and mountian views, including various attractions and a ton of recreation. Within a 10 mile radius you have the Amazing Fun Center, Great Bear Adventure, House of Mystry to experience a Montana vortex, Glacier National Park, Big Sky Water Slides, Rafting Adventures, Hungry Horse Damn & Recreation Area, Belton Train Depot... A few ideas for you...with many more right out your back door.
As soon as we arrived we noticed the awesome smell of a pie..to discover a freshly baked Huckerberry Pie awaiting us! We had pie from a few other places during our stay, but this was the best by far. The cottage was perfect for our week of hiking and enjoying GNP. Very clean with park maps and bear spray to use. The craftsmanship displayed when the owners remodeled after their purchase was excellent, showing an attention to detail. The cottage is on a large property with a fire pit with wood provided to enjoy the evenings. The owners we're very accomodationg and offered great suggestions on places to eat and see. I would like to return soon! Highly recommended!
Authentic home from the 1900's with all the modern updates! Quick access to Glacier National Park and the "going to the sun road".
The first night we were here the deer were in the back yard. A mama with her 2 fawn. The next night we spotted Elk & Bison in the back forty ( there is a story here). The host has this place perfect for an authentic stay.
I've waited over a year to post this. I didn't want to give away the highlight to our trip so we could book again next year!
This cabin was excellent in every respect. The beds were great, the kitchen was fully furnished, furniture was splendid, and I can't think of anything that was missing. We were constantly saying, "wow, this is really nice!" We used the outdoor BBQ, the firepit, and even the horse-shoe pits. It was nice and cool inside the home, despite 95 F outside. Proximity to Glacier was also wonderful. From the very first minute when the fresh huckleberry pie was discovered in the kitchen, we had a truly great time here.
Lovely well maintained and furnished cabin close to the west entrance to Glacier National Park. We had a great time, and everyone loved it! Highly recommend! Very comfortable for our group of six adults and medium age kids.
A great vacation at a great cabin! We arrived early evening and were so pleased with the accomodations. The living room was welcoming and is the original Glacier cabin. And there was a most excellent pie awaiting us in the kitchen! The house has been lovingly renovated and updated. The beds were comfortable, the windows opened nice and wide to let in the evening breezes. We loved that the cabin was close to the park and other amenities and to the main road. We were far enough from the route that there wasn't much road noise, etc to detract from the experience.
Late June trip at the western side of a time zone made for really long days, which took some getting used to but we really appreciated the opportunity to explore the park at great length at off peak times.
Coming from the east coast, I especially appreciated that the cabin was only 12 min to Glacier.... Always 12 minutes, there's no traffic to add to your travel time! Well no traffic on the way to the park at least, entering the park is another story (leave extra time if you're on a schedule.)
We were met by the owner and shown around the cabin. A freshly baked peach/huckleberry pie greeted us on the kitchen counter. The property has been in the family for many years and the love and care put into it shows. Very quiet setting with lots of area to roam. Horseshoe and fire pits. Lots of thoughtful extras. Thank you for being part of our wonderful memories of this glorious area.
