We offer year round comfort. Central air-conditioning will cool you on warm summer nights. In cooler seasons, this fully insulated home with newer furnace will keep you warm. Small yard includes fire pit for roasting marshmallows, lawn chairs and picnic table for evening relaxation. The beach allows for more area to play, build an evening campfire, treasure hunt (we have lots of beach glass and not a lot of hunters), swim, explore or skip stones.

Located in the small town of North East, PA, east of Erie, we're in a small, beautiful, historically cottage neighborhood with access to a private beach for residents and guests only. Over the years, many of the vintage cottages have been renovated into modern beach homes.

Beach access is easy -- no cliffs, no bluffs, no staircases -- just a short walk 99 steps down our quiet road. We have a natural Lake Erie shoreline with stones and sand where you can swim, hunt for beach glass, skip stones, sunbathe, build driftwood camp fires, roast marshmallows and hot dogs over a fire, make s'mores, walk along the shore or enjoy a glass of wine while watching our fabulous sunsets. Each night is a different show -- my favorite is when the sun 'falls' into the lake in front of colorful skies.

We recommend beach stone painting and driftwood painting as a fun activities for all ages. You provide the artists. The beach provides the stones and plenty of driftwood for crafts or campfires!

Bring your bikes... with only 12 homes on our tucked away street there is very little car traffic. Older kids can ride around the neighborhood, and adults can be more adventurous if you'd like. North East is gorgeous for biking and running with miles of vineyards and orchards.

Launch your kayak, paddleboard or sailboard right from the beach. Ask about kayak and paddleboard rentals. Larger boats and jet skis can be launched from the North East Marina, just 1.4 miles east. Daily and temporary docking available at the North East Marina. Fishing licenses & bait also available at the North East Marina.

In the heart of Pennsylvania's wine country, you'll see miles of grape vineyards and orchards. Pick-ur-own or buy freshly-picked produce at one of numerous roadside farmstands. Watch wine being made and experience wine tastings as close as 0.5 mile away -- ask me to arrange a private winery tour. If you are lucky enough to visit during grape harvest in September, you'll experience the aroma of ripened grapes on the vine as the aroma fills the town.

Fishermen love our proximity to excellent walleye, perch, lake trout, bass and steelhead fishing -- this is the world reknowned steelhead alley. We are located between 16 and 20 Mile Creeks. Elk Creek and Walnut Creek are 30-40 minutes. Looking for a charter? Don't pick blindly. When you stay at any of my homes (owned or managed), and whether you boat fish or creek fish, ask me to put you in touch with my brothers who fish on a pro team locally and offer charters or recos. I can also recommend an awesome fishing guide. Ask your fishing questions here.

The town of North East is 3 miles and offers:

-- Sander's grocery store

-- CVS drug store

-- Art galleries

-- Serendipity Consignment Boutique & Gift Shoppe

-- Teacher's Apple Basket children's toy store

-- Boston Bean Cafe (cute coffee shop and cafe)

-- Upscale restaurant and bar The Cork 1794 (lunch, dinner, nightlife)

-- pizza shops

-- casual restaurants

-- Bella Day Spa

-- Nine 20 Furniture and Design (an Annie Sloan stockist)

-- Grape Country Marketplace for local products and gifts

-- Lake Country Bike Shop where you can join in group bike tours/events or get biking maps, -- antique shops and a coin shop

Don't miss 'Thursdays in the Park' in downtown North East during the summer -- free events each week feature a farmer's market and family entertainment every Thursday during the summer months. Check the North East Chamber of Commerce website for year round events. Summer events include weekly live Music in the Vineyards, Picnic in the Park and Farmer's Markets, and local festivals. High Season continues into fall when the wineries are abuzz with harvesting. WineFest (last weekend of September) and Harvest Wine Fests (the first two weekends of November) are bustling event weekends. Lake Erie Wine Country events occur throughout the year – see their website. Surprise your Valentine with the Wine & Chocolate Event in February. Uncorked is a fun March wine walk event with a dress-the-theme component. Wine & Cheese Weekend occurs in May.

Some prefer to visit on a quieter weekend when the wineries winemakers have more time to spend with each guest. Try winter or spring for a more personal experience and for snow sports at Peek 'n Peak Ski Resort. Wineries are open YEAR ROUND, with the exception of major holidays when some wineries close for one day only.

Are you a shopper? Many people visit Erie to shop with no sales tax on clothing. How about a holiday shopping weekend? Veteran's Day has great sales. Stay in November or December when the rates are lower and shop 'til you drop.

Or, create your own event. Wine tasting tours for ladies or couples groups are a fun getaway. Add a spa visit while you're here. Visit the Presque Isle Downs & Casino for nightlife. Ask me for my thoughts on your getaway plan. I will help make your planning easy.

About Lynne Clement

I'm Lynne Clement. I love managing our rental properties and being a marketing consultant/property manager for other vacation rental owners. Look me up if you need help. I am also a full time web content writer for a local publisher. Originally from Erie, PA, I have lived all over the country for 20 years. When our kids became school-aged, we moved back to Erie where they could have a place to call home and have close relationships with extended family. I am also a Nittany Lion, Xavier Musketeer and Procter & Gamble alum. My husband Duane is a UB Chemist and Chemical Engineer who was transferred into Brand Marketing at Procter & Gamble. He now specializes in Marketing Research/Analytics with expertise in Business Intelligence and Customer Satisfaction. With our cottage rentals it is very important to us to delight our guests with a clean, well-stocked, comfortably furnished home.

Lynne Clement purchased this house in 2009

Why Lynne Clement chose Great Lakes Pennsylvania

As a child, my favorite memories were of visiting this special beach community. My dad's best friend owned this little slice of heaven where kids could be kids and adults were always in a good mood as they enjoyed good company. My parents eventually bought the home next door to their friends. Years later, my husband and I bought the house on the opposite side so that we could provide happy traditions and memories for our kids. I have been coming to this place for 40+ years!

What makes this house unique

I wanted my kids to grow up ejoying the same memories I had... swimming at the beach, treasure hunting for beach glass, outdoor bbqs, gathering driftwood for bonfires complete with s'mores and hot dogs, searching for and carving that perfect roasting stick, catching minnows and crayfish in the creek, walking barefoot on dirt roads to the beach, skipping stones, floating on rafts, painting beach stones, and building teepees from fallen branches. As an adult, I appreciate getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and entertaining friends and their kids just like I remember from those days as a child.

This home was perfect for our weekend get away. It had everything we needed and more - the linens were an extra bonus. Lynne was the perfect host and so easy to communicate with. This home is just as described - updated - CLEAN - and comfortable.

A fabulous place to stay! Clean, comfy, stocked, and great location. A quick walk to the private beach ( a rocky beach not really conducive to playing in sand, but beautiful nonetheless and fun to hunt for beach glass). Served as a great home base for trips to Niagara Falls and Jamestown, but enjoyed exploring the local downtown, as well! A quick 5 minute drive provided a sandy beach, playground, and picnic areas. The only reason I didn't give a 5 star rating was because we ran out of toilet paper half way through our stay!

So much to do in the surrounding areas, but enjoyable to just stay put and enjoy the spectacular sunsets and walk along the water.

We had a great time staying at this rental property! The house was clean, and all modern conveniences were provided! I especially appreciated that we could wash our clothes with the washer/dryer provided to us. Moreover, my kids had a blast at people beach. We bought paint and painted many peoples. At home we now have a rock garden outside filled with colorful memories of our trip😊

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your kind words Wendy. I am so happy to hear your family enjoyed painting beach stones -- one of my favorite activities as a child and even as an adult. For others who are interested, I recommend using acrylic paints because they are water-resistant when dry (but be careful because acrylics can stain) and a set of small inexpensive paint brushes for crafts (less than $5 for a pack of 10 or so). We also recommend a weather-proof spray or varnish as a finish coat if you want your designs to be long-lasting. For design inspiration, check out my pinterest page: https://www.pinterest.com/lakeeriecottage/painted-stones/.

A perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I met at the little red house with our 5 little kids in tow. It was a perfect spot, with just enough steps away from the beach that it was our daily destination & walking around the block at night was our after dinner ritual. The grocery store in town was mere minutes away and we checked out Freeport Beach too & a local playground. We loved it all and will be returning for years to come.
