Unforgettable holiday in the Swiss Alps

  • 5 of 5

We came to Zinal in May half term holiday with two children aged 10 and 7 and stayed for a week. We returned to Switzerland after 15 years so we were looking forward to it. Martin the owner was easy to deal with and the setting of the apartment is just breath taking. We flew to Geneva and hired a car and it was about two and half hours’ pleasant drive. A car will certainly make your life easy if you travel with children or elderly.

Zinal is highest inhabited village in Switzerland which is about six thousand feet above sea level and even in May the weather was sunny and very comfortable. The views and driving around the surrounding towns Grimentz, Vissoie, and Lac de Moiry, were simply mind blowing. We also went to Zermatt, Interlaken and wanted to drive through Furka Pass but the pass does not open until the end of June. We did manage to drive through Gotthard pass; the glacier and the driving through the pass will remain in our memory for many years.

If you want pure nature and tranquility Zinal is an ideal place. Every day we woke up with jaw dropping views and you can simply relax by looking at the Alps. We are hoping to be back again in the future.

Excellent holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have enjoyed an excellent holiday staying in Zinal. Our two boys had plenty to occupy them - swimming in the pool (within the building), hiring bikes and scooters to cycle down the mountains, ice hockey (all weather rink), table tennis and boules.

We used the post buses to get around, which were reliable and comfortable. These were free after we paid our tourist tax, as were the local cable cars.

The flat was comfortable and had all that we needed. It was clean and well maintained. We cooked daily for ourselves in the flat, having bought food from the nearby supermarket.

The owner provided good service, and even installed wifi at our request. The balcony and view are magnificent.

We hope to return.

Very pleasant stay at Zinal, summer 2012

  • 5 of 5

This is a very good opportunity for staying in rural, mounty Switzerland and very good price for this stay. We booked both apartment and studio and we had no lack in anything. The property is 100% optimal for tourists. Magnificent view from the windows is far better than in the photo:)

The infrastracture at Zinal (shops and restaurants) is adequate, one can go everywhere in the locality by postbus (however they circulate not very often - 1 time per two hours approximately) - it will take you from 9 to 12 days! This summer the postbuses were free for those who stayed in Zinal (but only if you do not go to Sierre!).

What I enjoyed best: canopy road in Niouc (190 m of an abyss under you!), cheese and fondu everwhere, local beer is great, the ice cap in Grimentz, Chandolin is fabulous and walking from Chandolin to the Observatory is a unique experience, up in mountains in gondola (free in summer for those who stay in Zinal) and walking back down to Zinal.

A week in Zinal

  • 5 of 5

A week was not really sufficient to explore all that there is to see in this superb location. Everything about the appartment is exactly as advertised and we would have no hesitation in giving this the highest recommendation.

Among the mountains

  • 5 of 5

It is probably best to arrive here in the dark because when you open the balcony curtains the next morning you will be stunned by the view! There can be none better in Zinal.

The apartment is what it says it is, compact and suitable for a couple, of which one must be tidy:). We soon worked into a regime that made the most of the seemly small apartment and after two days realized that either it was not so small or we did not need as much space as we thought. The cooking facilities of only two rings is a challenge to the culinary mind but there is everything else to make things easier and possible.

As we drove from Scotland to Zinal we did not have to use the excellent public transport but on occasion we did, just because it was so good. A wide choice of skiing - a variety of scenery and a never ending supply of places to explore makes this one of the best resorts for those wishing to escape the package holiday syndrome.

We have already booked again for 2010 - but longer - the view from the balcony needs more study!!!!

Ski paradise in winter season – hiking and climbing in magic nature in spring, summer and autumn. Zinal is surrounded by 5 mountains over 4000m and offers fantastic panorama. During winter the local ski pass gives access to 5 skiing domains of the valley with 220km of skiing slopes ( 70km downhill + 19,5km cross-country in Zinal – partly lit up until 21:00). Despite of all it's attractions Zinal is not crowded!

Ideal for families with slopes for children and beginners and with ski schools and childrens nursery. But also challenges for experienced skiers with black and mogul slopes and lot of deep snow all around. Breathtaking runs from 3000m down to Zinal or Grimentz.

New: 77 snow machines installed for more than 35 acres.

At the end of the day, enjoy a typical cheese fondue or raclette with a local Fendant white wine in one of the traditional restaurants.

Other Activities: golf in Rhone valley (30 min), 19,5 km track for cross-country skiing, climbing in glaciers and cascade of ice, free flight school and ice skating.

Golf: Beautiful golf possibilities in Rhone valley - at about 20 km
