About Elaine & Bill Cashin

We are a large family with six now grown children and 2 grandchildren. In 1997, when our youngest was 2 and our life was very busy keeping up with work and the children, we decided to pack it up and move to Vermont. We have been so lucky to raise our 6 children in this beautiful place and make so many friends along the way. The children are now grown, but they remain in the area as Lake Willoughby has become a part of who they are. We are blessed to look out our windows every day and see the beauty that surrounds us.

Elaine & Bill Cashin purchased this estate in 1998

Why Elaine & Bill Cashin chose Northeast Kingdom

After we had our fifth child, we took a much needed vacation and headed north to Lake Willoughby where my husband vacationed as a child. Living on a small lake in Massachusetts, we appreciated the water, but as we crested the hill on VT Rte 5A and saw Lake Willoughby, it took my breath away. The majesty and grandeur of the cliffs, mountains and undeveloped forests was a sight to see. When we swam, the clarity of the water amazed and refreshed us, unlike anything we had experienced.

We saw this property for sale and decided it would be a great family endeavor. We certainly had the ready made work-force with our 6 children and here we are, almost 20 years later, unable to ever think of leaving.

What makes this estate unique

Over the years, we have had many visitors, both family and guests here at Green Acres Cabins & Lakehouse. It has been wonderful to share time together as a group and yet enjoy the privacy each cabin offers. We have had many family gatherings, cook-outs, graduation parties on a small scale and family reunions and weddings on a larger scale hosting well over 100 people. Our property is perfect, allowing for individual activities and quiet time or a grand time together that you will never forget.

If you need a little more space for overnight guests, please ask about our other accommodations.

Well maintained, clean, and efficient. Beautiful lake!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time attempting a 4 family vacation together. The cabins are older but it was clean and efficient - simple living worked well! There is a well equipped kitchen, basic bathroom, clean linens, and easy to stay in. The futon mattress in the living room was very hard though. We spent most of our 4 days on the lake which was absolutely gorgeous - not crowded! We'd brought our boat from CT and it was well worth it. The private beach was great and worked well for everyone. Bring water shoes - lots of rocks to walk on to get out to the sand. We will definitely return!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a wonderful review. Once again, we do love having families coming together creating summer memories "at the lake". We do try to maintain the simple, classic appeal of the cabins as they have been providing lodging for families for many years here at Lake Willoughby. Love seeing the picnic tables all pulled together for your meals and happy that you enjoyed the fire each night. So glad you had a great time and we look forward to having you return.

Great for big groups

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I rent a lake house every year and rather than one house this year we went with the 4 cabins. With 15 friends it was so handy to have 4 fridges and 4 bathrooms this year!!!

Bill and Elaine were very nice. They greeted us when we got there, gave us sheets for the sofa beds and games to play while we were there. They also had a huge canopy they let us use over the picnic tables for the night it poured.

They even lit fires for us every night in the fire pit that they amply furnished with beautiful wood adarandak chairs.

They are pretty accommodating about noise, but they do live on premises. So we would turn the music down pretty low after 10pm.

Owner's Response: Great group of people. It was wonderful to see you fully enjoying the property. You took advantage of the lawn games available and were back and forth to the beach with tubes & kayaks. The sounds of summer fun and laughter at the fire each night with a group of friends top off a great weekend "at the lake".

Great place for family get together.

  • 5 of 5

Nicely appointed cottages and great yard for the kids to run in. Corn hole and wiggle ball games were a lot of fun. The fire pit was our nightly ritual and bill had it lit for us each night.

Owner's Response: Bill is always happy to be of assistance and lighting the fire each night is his favorite part of hosting (as I am sure you noticed). So glad the kids were truly able to enjoy the freedom of running and playing that the large open lawn area allows. It is always great to have families come as a group to enjoy a summer vacation at our spot on Lake Willoughby. Loved seeing you pull the picnic tables and grills together to enjoy your meals together and loved the swan boat. I wish I could have seen that out on the lake. Thanks again for being great guests.

The Lucern of the Americas

  • 5 of 5

Green Acers is one of the most beautiful and tranquil finds in The Northeast Kingdom.

The cabins are delightfully accomdating with easy access to a private beach just a stroll across the street.

Our large family held a reunion there 7 years ago and was on the top of the list as a place to be hosted again.

Bill and Elaine couldn't be more accomdating with all the details and large crowd. We will be going back again and again.

Owner's Response: Thank You So Much Suzi, Hosting your family for reunions over the years has been wonderful. It is always great to have one large family sharing memories and catching up under the apple tree or at the fire or sitting at the beach. Your first reunion 7 years ago was the beginning of many happy, large gatherings here. The best thing is that we have seen many of you come back again. Your gathering this past summer was a little smaller but still loads of fun. Having the large tent for the day of the event and your fabulous pot luck Saturday night supper really brought everyone together. And as we've said, we hope to host your family again, sooner rather than later. Elaine & Bill
