Welcome to the Charpia Cottage, a cozy, 2 bedroom cottage built in 1914. We are located in the historic district, 1 block from the town center. The cottage has been completely renovated and restored with all of the comforts of home and a gorgeous gulf view from the screened front porch. We are located in historic Cedar Key...a charming island community. There are many shops, galleries, and museums to explore during your stay, along with boat rides and island tours. You can also enjoy a variety of restaurants and eateries that feature local seafood and entertainment. We now have wireless internet!! Bring your laptop and work or email from our gulf-view front porch!
Our cottage is all on one level for easy access, with a back deck complete with a charcoal grill and 300 year-old oak tree! We are within walking distance to Cedar Key's waterfront shops and restaurants, as well as the historic main drag.

We purchased this wonderful cottage several years ago as a quiet escape for our family and friends, some of which also have places in Cedar Key. It is a place where we felt comfortable letting the kids go ride their bikes, wander, and just be kids. . . like we used to. Not many places left like this!!
While we enjoy going to close-by islands and coves by boat from Cedar Key (like McCrary Cove on Seahorse Key in the pic above) and Atsena Otie Island just across the main channel or waterway), we also fish quite a bit now as well. Trout and Spanish Mack are the kids favorite things to catch, and we just realized we can scallop in the shallows in Cedar Key, too (in season, of course)!
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2007
Our property has more character/personality than any other rental you will find, bar none. We have rented other places in Cedar Key (when we have had work being done to our cottage or had family in) and I can honestly say that our place is special. It doesn't FEEL like a rental, which to me, is important. I hope you will try us out!
The cottage is one level, which is nice as no hiking up stairs with luggage or groceries! Also one of the most centrally-located places you will find with a waterview. The people watching from our place is great from the front porch--you can watch the boats coming in and going out on the water, as well as everyone who walks or rides their bike down to what we call 'sunset point' just two blocks further down on First Street. Nothing better than pouring a glass of wine or beer and walking to the point with family or friends to watch the sun go down.
We’ve stayed at Charpia twice and have truly loved every minute of it. The other reviewers have eloquently described the cottage’s charms. I’ll add it’s remarkably quiet and peaceful considering one can walk within minutes to downtown. Cedar Key is unique with it’s compact size and variety of entertainments. Dock St. is 5 minutes away with shops, bars and restaurants. The supermarket is two blocks away. Kayaking and boating opportunities are all within walking distance. We spent two weeks in Cedar Kay and left with new friends. If you’re looking for a slower paced vacation spot and a very comfortable little cottage, you can’t beat this place.
Truly one of a kind cottage that is over 100 years old. High ceilings, tastefully decorated, very cozy and clean, magnificent 300 year-old oak tree in back. Central location, easy walk downtown, internet good. Fully equipped kitchen with neat red fridge. Wonderful decor. Lots of books are supplied for you to read. There is one tv in the sitting room and you can look out at the water from where you sit in addition to sitting outside on the screened porch. Washer/dryer. The two bedrooms are side by side with the bathroom on the side of one of the bedrooms; the person sleeping in the end bedroom must go through the other bedroom to go to the bathroom (or walk out on the porch and back in again which was my preference, didn't want to wake anybody up.) Hey, that's the way they designed it in 1914! :-) Madly in love with this little place, wish it was mine. Check in/check out process is ideal. Cat food is supplied for the town cats who like to congregate here; the black and white one is particularly sweet. Definitely want to return for at least a month!
Making this reservation and communicating with the owner was very easy. Owner responded in a very timely manner with complete information. We arrived on a Friday afternoon and found everything just as the owner stated. Charpia Cottage is quaint, located in a very quiet area with a view of the Gulf with ecclectic decor that is a delight. Living areas are comfortable with homey touches, including games, books, shells and fun art. The kitchen is modern and well equipped; cottage is very clean and well kept. We loved sitting on the back porch gazing into the trees and listening to the cacaphony of birds! Access to downtown within a block or two; the dock area for a few shops, restaurants and boat tours is about a half mile -- all easily walk-able. Community activities range from sedentary to active paddle boarding and kayaking. Go and enjoy!
If the glitz of Naples or Clearwater wears thin, and you hanker to experience Florida before condos took it over, then Cedar Key and Charpia Cottage are your antidote. A delightful early 1900's tin-roof clapboard cottage that is fully updated with A/C and modern applicances. The photos - accurate as they are - don't convey the delight of your morning coffee or afternoon libation from the screened porch overlooking the bay, dolphins swimming past. The bedrooms are comfortable, the bathroom and kitchen are spotless, and the living room reflects a whimsical beach cottage ambiance. All this in easy walking distance from shops, good restaurants, and a fine bakery. Wish we'd stayed longer!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place!! It was perfect in every way! The porch overlooking the Gulf was absolutely the perfect spot to spend the week. I can't say enough about how nice this place was. It was such an easy, relaxing place to be. It was an easy walk to EVERYTHING - grocery store, restaurants, bars, and shops - and incredibly well stocked with everything needed to cook if we wanted to stay in. (And everything was IMPECCABLY clean!) Knowing there was a washing machine and dryer made it easy to pack. It was a wonderful relaxing week and I actually felt like I had been on vacation!! Again - I SAY! - it was absolutely perfect! My sister and I loved it!
