About Dean Ellis

Our family has used this lake house as our get away from it all escape from reality. We have been pressured for many years to rent this property so everyone can get to enjoy one of Florida's most hidden and unusual secrets. Henry David Thoreau said ' A lake is a landscape's most beautiful and expressive features' A lake with a house in the middle of it is nature as it's best. We are very sorry we can't share our Lake House Blue with Mr. Thoreau, but we are sure he would love it....

Dean Ellis purchased this house in 1978

Why Dean Ellis chose Florida North Central Gulf Coast

We bought this lake house because we wanted to get back to the old Florida of days gone by. This area has changed very little compare to other parts of Florida. Just 25 miles North in Palatka was as far south people came around the turn of the 20th century. The great people of that era names like President Grant, Mrs. Lincoln, wanted to see the wild Florida and all it's natural wonders. Palatka had as many 100 Paddle Wheel boats tied up at the city docks. Years later Babe Ruth came a couple of years and taught a base ball school. Highway 17 is the original highway to Florida as well as US1 on the East coast. These are the things that I saw when my parents brought me thru this area in the 1950's. It made a lasting impression on me and I get to enjoy this area today just like I was a kid again...

What makes this house unique

This is a one of a kind home with class, modern features, and a view from every window and door. Wildlife is all around and likes to show off for our guest. Bald Eagles,Osprey's, Ducks,Blue Heron's,White Egret's, even an occasional Manatee. This is just the beginning because every month has a different supply of nature's best. Come experience the wonders of nature at it best....

The "Real Florida"

  • 5 of 5

Lake House Blue and the surrounding region is truly Florida at its finest. Our stay at Lake House Blue was an exceptional affair. The affair was short-lived, but long lasting in our memories. We are Florida natives (Jacksonville), and have camped, lodged, fished, vacationed and relaxed in every part of the state; from Key West to the springs of the northern regions, but Lake House Blue was an incomparable treat. During our stay we were transported to a part of Florida that few have seen, and less have experienced. From the first fish we caught, to the last meal we ate, we enjoyed every minute.

Our time at “The House” seemed to go by as if it were fluid. The days were occupied by fishing, sunbathing, and just plain relaxing. Whereas the nights were full of the smell of the grill cooking, the feel of the cool night breeze off the lake, and board games. The wildlife and the surrounding scenery created a calming setting; which any individual, at any age, will find not only soothing, but reassuring. While we were on the lake we observed various birds and fish. Even though we did not see any manatees, we did see a few “gators”. The sights and sounds of the lake instilled a passion in everyone, reminding us that there is still a beauty in nature that cannot be replicated by man. The heat of the day, complimented by the cool of the afternoon rain-showers, is an occurrence that everyone should have the pleasure of experiencing at least once in their lifetime. The hot days followed by the cool evenings produced a sub-tropical feel, and generated a surreal sensation that will survive in our memories forevermore. Likewise, the magnificent lighting shows that occurred occasionally were a sight to see; electrifying in their brilliance, beautiful in their magnificence, and breathtaking in their grandeur. The hospitality of our host was awesome. Every advantage that our host could allow us was given, every amenity was secured, and every question answered. The completeness of the accommodations was flawless. From the maritime motif, to the provisions provided, Lake House Blue was impeccable. The look, feel, and ambiance of “The House” were picture-perfect. We felt as if the Ellis family had read our minds and then proceeded to fulfill our Florida fantasies. We are hoping (actually yearning) to go back. We had such a “Florida experience” I believe even Hemmingway would be envious.

Owner's Response: WOW!!! This review is off the charts in our book. We are so pleased that you took the time to say in detail what we have known for over 40 years but we could never find the words to say it as well as you did here. We have had so many requests from friends and family to rent this house over the years because they said this is a spot in Florida that everyone should experience. We heard this so many times that we just had to start sharing it with others. This is the kind of response we have hoped for. We felt if we could provide a home that was comfortable then nature could take it from there. Thank you for being being our guest at Lake House Blue and it was our pleasure to have you!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for a great review. It is folks like you that talked us into renting Lake House Blue in the first place. We have always felt that it is our obligation to share this house of nature with everyone who would love it. Keeping it nice for all is also a big responsibility as well and we try very hard to provide the experience our guest have learned to love......

Awesome View & Fishing

  • 5 of 5

Wow! This was a perfect family weekend getaway! We saw an eagle, otters, blue heron, white egret, bats and caught a bunch of fish! Our prize of the whole trip was a 9lb. catfish and it was de-licious!!! The lake house had everything we needed and the view from every room is breathetaking! Its perfect for families or a romantic getaway. We loved the wood fire pot belly stove, we used it all weekend. The beds are very comfortable and there were plenty of blankets and extra pillows. Thank you and we will definitely be back!

As advertised! We will be back!

We reallly enjoyed our stay at Lake House Blue. Our three night stay was too short though and I plan I coming back for at least a week next time. I brought my bass boat and my Australian Cattle dog and we spent a lot of time on the lake catching a variety of fish, including bass, and saw lots of wildlife. The house is well equipped, clean and cozy and I can't thank the owners enough for sharing such an awesome place.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for a great review. We are so glad to hear you caught a lot a fish. I get that question asked of me often by incoming guest. We don't get a lot of people who will share their fishing success. Thank you for doing so. The fishing has really been good for the last 3 years for sure and we have had many good fishing cycles on the lake over the 40 years we have owned this lake house. Crescent Lake got it's great reputation from the Big Mouth Bass back too 1960 and beyond. In the eighties we became a big hit with some of the Pro Bass Clubs and they made this area one of their favorites. Come back soon and give us a update........

A SLICE OF NAUTICAL PARADISE!!!

  • 5 of 5

I have been a "frequent flyer" with VRBO and Lake House Blue is hands down, the nicest, most peaceful, and most relaxing place my family and I have ever stayed in. I am a salty old sailor, who has spent the last 34 years working on ocean going cargo ships on international voyages. My home is a collage of all things nautical. When I stepped into LHB, it was like a dream, as if I were the one to have decorated it. Every nook & cranny had some sort of nautical or fishing related flair to it. Not only was the decor much to my own personal taste, everything inside was well appointed and not once were we without the necessary appliance, utensil, pot, or pan. Everything one could need is in LHB. The inside was impeccably clean and the furniture was extremely comfortable. The mattresses & linens allowed for a blissful slumber which was followed by our morning coffee on the south porch while being greeted by the sun rising over east side of the lake. We spent Christmas Weekend at LHB and even brought our own string of lights and a two foot table top tree. We placed our (pre-decorated and battery operated) tree on the row boat coffee table and spread the gifts out around the table on the hardwood floor with a toasty fire going in the fireplace. It was an idyillic scene and a classic ol' school Florida Christmas on the water. We had plans to go to Silver Springs, but when we took a vote, it was unanimous that nobody wanted to venture out and everyone wanted to just hang out at LHB. This will go down as one of the most memorable Christmases my family has ever had and I know my kids will speak of it to their own kids when they reach that point in their lives. Owner Dean maintained constant contact as our arrival date drew near and spelled everything out for us. Even with such detailed info, I screwed up and did not secure the alarm within 60 seconds of entering so I had to talk to the security company when they called, but it really was a non-event. My wife & daughter were freaking out as the alarm screeched while my son and I laughed. In summation, this place is phenomenal! It gets 6 stars on a 5 star scoring system. There is no doubt we are coming back and I highly recommend anyone contemplating a visit to LHB, to "go for it". You will have no regrets!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for a GREAT review. My wife and I have collected nautical items over our married life for more than 40 years. We love all the items that remind us of being on the ocean and places we have visited. We have always thought that Lake House Blue was a great place to display things that were important to us and our family. For many years every time we went anywhere new we looked for something for the lake house. Over the years we have collected this pieces to enjoy while resting and relaxing in this unusual home over the water. We are so glad so many people over the years have found this environment as a great place to unwind. We are water people, like so many other people we know because we feel piece and tranquillity when we are near it. Having fun and a a interesting place to enjoy the water and nature has always been a big priority for us. We are glad you enjoyed our little slice of old Florida in Crescent City. We are so pleased to able to share it with you.......

Lake House Blue had everything we needed, and more. Very comfortable and private. Owners do a great job with instructions and making sure your stay is relaxing. The lake is beautiful and getting to wake up to those views unforgettable. A wonderful place to get away from it all, grab a book, listen to the waves and enjoy life. We will be back.
