About Dean Ellis

Our family has used this lake house as our get away from it all escape from reality. We have been pressured for many years to rent this property so everyone can get to enjoy one of Florida's most hidden and unusual secrets. Henry David Thoreau said ' A lake is a landscape's most beautiful and expressive features' A lake with a house in the middle of it is nature as it's best. We are very sorry we can't share our Lake House Blue with Mr. Thoreau, but we are sure he would love it....

Dean Ellis purchased this house in 1978

Why Dean Ellis chose Crescent City

We bought this lake house because we wanted to get back to the old Florida of days gone by. This area has changed very little compare to other parts of Florida. Just 25 miles North in Palatka was as far south people came around the turn of the 20th century. The great people of that era names like President Grant, Mrs. Lincoln, wanted to see the wild Florida and all it's natural wonders. Palatka had as many 100 Paddle Wheel boats tied up at the city docks. Years later Babe Ruth came a couple of years and taught a base ball school. Highway 17 is the original highway to Florida as well as US1 on the East coast. These are the things that I saw when my parents brought me thru this area in the 1950's. It made a lasting impression on me and I get to enjoy this area today just like I was a kid again...

What makes this house unique

This is a one of a kind home with class, modern features, and a view from every window and door. Wildlife is all around and likes to show off for our guest. Bald Eagles,Osprey's, Ducks,Blue Heron's,White Egret's, even an occasional Manatee. This is just the beginning because every month has a different supply of nature's best. Come experience the wonders of nature at it best....

Perfect 12-day Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

From the beginning of the planning phase we appreciated the personal care and helpfulness of the owners of Lake House Blue. This was our second stay, hopefully not our last. Notwithstanding the many recreational activities surrounding us, my husband and I mostly enjoyed the pleasure and convenience of "making ourselves at home." We loved the views, the 'action' seen in and on the water, the major comfort spiritually bestowed on our minds and bodies. This was an experience that will remain in the better stow of our hearts, and we highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates such treasures.

Owner's Response: A review of reviews. Thank you so very much for your heart felt words and comments. We appreciated your views on major comfort because we work very hard to make this a home that loves it's guest. We want our guest to feel they are at home when they are here. We try to do the things that will make everyone's time here a time to be remembered. Thank you again for a great review, you will never know how much we appreciate your observations....

Owner's Response: Thank you for a great review. Yes we are in the middle of Florida but who would know that from this location. It is this peace and quite that hits you first and then it is nature that steals the show. Nature has a way of bringing out the best in everyone with it's magic and beauty. We hope you come back soon for another piece of our nature pie......

Nice and quiet

  • 5 of 5

My wife enjoyed the house. Was a little hard trying to catch her a fish, but she loved it. Will recommend.

Owner's Response: Nice and Quite is what we like to hear. We know that is such a hard thing to find these days. Everyone we know lives very busy lives and a true departure from that can be a welcome relief. That also was our original attraction to this area more than 35 years ago, as well as the amazing abundance of natural beauty everywhere. You have discovered our family recovery zone and we are more than happy to share it with you.....Thank you for your visit.....

Great Place!!!

  • 5 of 5

This house is amazing. My girlfriends and I spend an extended weekend here to relax before the holiday season rolled in. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The hammock is super comfy, and we caught fish right off the porch! The store is super close for creature comforts, yet it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. We will definitely be back!!! :)

Also, the owner responds quickly to any questions you may have.

The area serves as a hub for day trips to nearby shopping, recreation and tourism. Located within an hour's drive are Ravine State Gardens in Palatka; Deland, with Blue Springs and DeLeon Springs (the real Fountain of Youth); the Ocala National Forrest with Juniper, Salt and World Famous Silver Springs; Daytona with its shopping, Daytona International Speedway & Museum and famous beaches; Flagler County, Marineland; and the historic city of St. Augustine. Within two hour's drive are Jacksonville, Orlando, Walt Disney World Resort, Universal and MGM, Sea World, Kennedy Space Center, and Mount Dora for the antique lovers. All this from the Bass Capital of Florida.

Other Activities: Swimming 1 mile away at Lake Stella with picnic area and restrooms

Golf: The Live Oak golf course is a local venue, and fancy it's not. But the locals like the idea of having their own private setting. There is also a municipal course in Palatka that is only about 30 miles away. Now, if you are a serious golfer there is St. Augustine, Daytona and Orlando that can fill any dream you might have.
