About this property

Maine Oceanfront Home

Aberdeen is an elegant oceanfront home built in the style of coastal New England craftsman cottages. It greets the morning sunrise with huge windows and airy interiors and faces east for spectacular sunrise views. It sits on the eastern side of Orr's Island and enjoys panoramic open-ocean views, cooling sea breezes and the sounds of an enthusiastic surf hitting the rocks--all delights to the senses! Built in the image of an old coastal-Maine cottage, it is a large house with all the modern amenities, privacy and a spacious interior. Complete down to the inglenook and wood-burning stove in the living room, it will take you back to the glories of the turn of the century while happily bypassing the inconveniences of that time. It has four bedrooms, plus a sleeping loft, two bathrooms, a laundry room with washer and dryer, a kitchen that overlooks the dining room, a living room, an entertainment room/office, a large front deck, and an enclosed porch. The entertainment room has a flat screen cable TV, DVD player, leather armchair, and there is wireless internet. Outside is a spacious deck, lawn and gardens, an outdoor shower, and a small stream down to the ocean. A beautiful wide swath of grass leads you to the rock-bound shoreline complete with ledges, a beach and tide pools. You can launch your own kayaks from the beach, and kids can find sea glass and shells. The land is a total of 13 acres and is available for rental nine months of the year. For views, space, comfort, elegance and convenience, you can't beat Aberdeen. It is located 20 minutes from Brunswick, home of Bowdoin College, grocery stores, gas stations, shops, and 30 minutes from Freeport where you can shop at outlet stores and L.L. Bean.

We had a wonderful and relaxing time at Aberdeen. Waking up to the sunrise on the water was so beautiful. We have stayed at this property before and look forward to hopefully visiting again!

This is the Maine House We’ve All Dreamed Of
Several members of my family and I enjoyed the week before Christmas at this classic Maine home. It sits on a knoll overlooking the ocean on a dead end street. While there, it’s like living in a post card, complete with pine trees and crashing surf. The home has lots of character and holds the energy of the happy memories that have been made there. We enjoyed every moment ! And as a post script, we inadvertently left two bags at the house when we headed home and got a prompt call from the property manager, Amy, letting us know of the oversight. She then boxed them up and got them in the mail to us in very short order. What a wonder she is! Aberdeen is Maine as it used to be, and how we have imagined it to be. It’s a true treasure!

Perfect house on Orr's Island for our Thanksgiving gathering
The house has lots of charm, space and comfort. Clean, well stocked, and great kitchen. We loved it. Our group of 9 (ages 4-73),plus 3 locals who came for dinners had a wonderful time. The house provides great space for all ages. The view is spectacular and we all loved walking on the rocks and searching the tidal pools. Highly recommend this house and host!

About the host

I am a retired pastor of Church on the Hill (United Church of Christ) in Lenox, MA and I have two grown children. My grandfather bought this property in 1957 and my parents built this home in 1996 for their retirement. I inherited the property in 2010.

Why they chose this property

This is a spectacular property on a quiet island. The home is winterized for a great vacation all year long. There are pathways and 13 acres (total) of wooded and shoreline property, board games, HD TV, stereo, and DVD player. The side yard has an enclosed dog-run. First floor includes a large kitchen and dining room; large living room; wood stove; entertainment room/office; a large porch with ocean views, a mudroom, and an enclosed porch. Full bath on first floor with shower. There is a large shed with wood storage and an outdoor shower. Second floor includes master bedroom with queen (oceanview); bedroom with full-sized bed (oceanview); bedroom with twin bed (oceanview); and a bedroom with twin bed (and a trundle bed underneath that slides out) with wooded view; and a full bathroom. The sleeping loft on the third floor has two twin beds and space for two mattresses (wooded and ocean views).

What makes this property unique

The ocean, fresh seafood, fresh lobster, beautiful sunrise views of the water. Home includes all kitchen and cooking utensils, including lobster picks, pot, plates, and aprons for eating lobster. The house is a carpenter's dream. All wood interior in the style of a New England craftsman cottage, with all modern conveniences. The property is spectacular, especially the one acre shore property. It is rocky, but yields to a small pebbly beach at low tide. 180 degree views of the open ocean from the shore. Shore access is a private path on our property, which is very close to the ocean. You can hear the ocean with the windows open from every room in the house.
