About Joelyn Hilton

After teaching, we love being able to unwind in the quiet and spaciousness of our desert surroundings. We moved into our house about twelve years ago and built the separate studio on our one-acre property a few years later.

Joelyn Hilton purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Joelyn Hilton chose Arizona

There are two reasons we moved to East Mesa - one, to build a ceramic art studio, and two, to be close to hiking and mountain biking. We were able to convert part of the ceramic art studio into the vacation rental, with it’s own separate entrance.

What makes this cottage unique

We’re close to nature, but also within a few minutes to food shopping, coffee shops, convenience stores, and gas. Close freeway access takes you to malls, movie theatres, hospitals, public transportation, and the airport.

Everything they said it would be and more!

This was truly a memorable getaway! Everything was perfect. The casita was extremely clean, nicely decorated and had everything you could possibly need to make your stay enjoyable. Our favorite room was the rooftop! Awesome views of the mountains and sunsets. Not to mention the stars and planets! Lots of hiking trails to enjoy during the day. The best part of our stay was meeting the owners, Joelyn and Chip. They truly made our stay extra special. Really enjoyed seeing Chip's studio and learning about his art. I know he will be fantastic in his future endeavors. Thank you both for an extremely wonderful few days! I will most definitely be back!

Really nice place

  • 5 of 5

I stayed for four nights recently and it was perfect for my needs - quiet, good location, lovely views, room was attractive and comfortable. I was out and about a lot so having a nice shower was a huge plus - all the little stuff like that is just right. I was meeting friends for meals but it looked like there was enough gear to manage if I was cooking. The owners seemed very nice. I liked the idea that I could get them quickly if there was a problem but it's not like they were in my face or anything. Really a great place if you want to enjoy the outdoors or other activities in that area.

Best Vacation Advice; Listen to the Locals!

  • 5 of 5

Perusing all of the positive reviews written about this VRBO by other guests convinced the two of us to choose this location for our week in Mesa from January 20-27, 2016. The accompanying picture and description included with the listing were spot on; the studio is surrounded by mountains, nature, lakes; it is close to hiking trails, restaurants, and scenic drives through the mountains, yet, it is located in a quiet and secluded neighborhood. This casita is the perfect choice for adventurous, outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy a cozy room with a view!

We enjoyed the amazing sunrises, sunsets, and even a moon rise on the two patios, one located on the rooftop of the casita! The view of the mountains was spectacular; especially the Superstition Mountains that were only a short drive away! We drove a short distance and hiked the nearby Usery Park trails, Hieroglyphics Trail in the Superstition Mountains, and the Pinnacle Peak Trail. We were also close to the Apache Trail Scenic Drive that had amazing lakes, trails and views as well as a fun town, Tortilla Flats, where we enjoyed a delicious pancake breakfast at the town’s restaurant on the drive up!

Visited many nearby restaurants and bars; particularly Kneaders Bakery and Restaurant in Mesa and the Rusty Spur Saloon in Old Town Scottsdale for the live music! The best part was spending time with our hosts, Chip and Joelyn, who were interesting, helpful, fun and genuinely concerned that we were happy and content. Their property is beautiful, well-maintained, artistically staged and welcoming with solar lights and easy access. The three-ring binder on the coffee table with numerous brochures listing all of the activities and eating places and the excellent recommendations from our hosts were all of the information we needed to plot our adventurous week in Mesa! Happy Trails, Chip and Joelyn, until we meet again.

Great Stay!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I came for a long weekend to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We wanted something in Mesa, and we wanted something comfy, but didn't need anything big since it was just us and we planned on being out hiking most of the time anyway. This casita was perfect! It was cozy, the bed was SO comfortable, and the location was perfect for everywhere we wanted to go. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone! Chip and Joelyn were so nice and the place was beautiful. Don't make the mistake of waiting til the last morning to go up to the patio like we did either. The views may have been my favorite part of our stay!

Looks exactly as pictures - beautiful! Very clean. Plenty big enough for the two of us. Enjoyed the patio above and being able to see the Usery and Superstition Mountains and city lights of Mesa. Within walking distance to the hiking trails in the Usery Mountain Regional Park. Easy drive to sights around. Look forward to our next stay.
