There’s no question why Lake Tahoe has been known for centuries at “America’s Year-round Playground”. Lake Tahoe offers more indoor and outdoor recreation than any other destination in the country. With some of world's most beautiful golf courses, biking and hiking trails, boating, kayaking, miles of sandy beaches, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, and 14 ski resorts, you'll want to save time for playtime.
Home, Home on the 'Ponderosa Ranch': A special feature about this Log Cabin is its connection to the internationally-famous Bonanza TV series. The property was part of the famous Ponderosa Ranch where Bonanza was filmed for many years and viewed by Cartwright fans from around the world. The views of Lake Tahoe remain just as breathtaking today as they have for years gone by.
While thousands passed through the nearby gates of the Ponderosa Ranch annually, few knew that behind a locked gate, just up the road, sat the private home Anderson carefully crafted to house his family. A few years later, his son chose to build his own luxury log cabin on a corner of the property with the most breathtaking Lake views. That home is now Tunnel Creek Lodge - and it available for you to enjoy, year-round. Today, it's one of the region's most exclusive locations for family reunions, anniversaries, corporate retreats and special events. Craig & Liz Olson both grew up in Southern California - Craig, in the San Fernando Valley, and Liz, in Santa Clarita. Liz originally lived on her family's property in Agua Dulce, California, at Vasquez Rocks (now a County Park), where hundreds of films and TV shows have been shot for many years, including Bonanza, and Star Trek. You can ask Liz about her run-in with William Shatner, and how she inspired his love of horses, or about her role as a baby in the arms of Little Joe in old Bonanza episodes.
Craig and Liz have been visiting and enjoying Lake Tahoe together since 1989, and have made Incline Village their permanent home in 2011. They love Lake Tahoe, and enjoy sharing it with others - Tunnel Creek Lodge is a perfect way to share the beauty of the Lake Tahoe area with friends, family, and other visitors.
The Owner purchased this lodge in 2008
We loved the beauty of the original 5 acre parcel, with the old 'bunkhouse' (former Ponderosa Stables, and now Tunnel Creek Station) below, and the modern, yet rustic log cabin perched at the top of the hill, overlooking beautiful Lake Tahoe and the mountains that surround it. As a mountain biker, Craig had passed the property countless times coming out of Nevada State Park after riding either the Rim or Flume Trail, and loved it being at the entrance to the park 'Just ride out of the driveway and onto the trail!'
What a great experience! We are a bunch of mostly military friends who still dream of being ski bums. We have vacationed in Tahoe every spring for the past 10 years; we have stayed in many places, trying a new one each year, and this was - by a large margin - the best. Stop your search and book this place. The house is comfortable, roomy, and well equipped (we especially enjoyed the giant dining room table and the upstairs billiards area). The house is amazing, but the grounds are even better, complete with a large deck, hot tub, walking paths, and stunning views of the lake. Our German friend - who flew in from Frankfurt for his first Lake Tahoe trip - was so in awe of the Tunnel Creek Lodge and the Bonanza Ponderosa Ranch that he committed to making the long trip every year. Hope you enjoy this gem as much as we did!
We rented the house for a weekend couples retreat with 5 couples. It turned out that is was raining and storming all weekend long and if Tunnel Creek Lodge was not as a amazing place as it was thing could have been really bad. The beautiful decor and the size of the great room made it perfect for lounging around playing games. The fire place gave the lodge a cozy feel, perfect for having a cup of tea or glass of wine. The owners took extra care providing us with wine, cheese and fruit on our arrival. The place was truly wonderful and I would recommend it to everyone.
Perfect place for family and friends. Fantastic accommodations and views that you can soak in all hours of the day.
The owners are fantastic, professional and personal. The house itself is outfitted with everything you could need.
We have made wonderful memories and hope someday to return.
I highly recommend this place.

Best vacation for our group, 28 years.
Location, facility amenities and beauty plus access to mountain trails combine for best. Wish that repeat visit next Fall were possible. Price and cleaning charge upper limit of most budgets.
This was a wonderful location for a family vacation. The home had an abundance of style and there was room for our family of 11 with all of the different sleeping issues. We never felt cramped. The yard was extraordinarily spacious, with lots of lounging areas with incredible views and lots of room for the kids to play. I loved having Tunnel Creek Trail right outside our door and Tunnel Creek Cafe right down the hill where I could walk for my morning espresso or to pick up lunch. Sand Harbor Beach was close by and it was our favorite. It reminded us of Virgin Gorda in the Caribbean. I would be happy to return.
Our stay could not have been more perfect. We were there with a total of four couples celebrating a 50th Birthday, the house was perfect for everyone. The views were spectacular and sunsets were breathtaking. And cannot say enough about Craig and Liz, the hospitality was top notch and the personal touches were very welcoming. We made good use of the outside and inside kitchen, which by the way was stocked completely with all the necessities and more. The three washers and dryers were a very nice touch and made coming home with clean clothes a treat in itself. I would highly recommend staying at the Tunnel Creek Lodge and would have loved to return but unfortunately the will not be renting out after next year. (I surely do not blame them for wanting to live there themselves) Thank you for sharing your beautiful lodge!
