love the energy of this part of the Catskills
this is one of the oldest remaining farmhouses in Sullivan County
in july august -there are acres and acres of ripe blueberries free for the picking, mid august some peaches and plums, in spring summer fall there is always something in bloom, there's stone buddha statue leaning in the old barn foundations with a platform of slate over looking it and view of the farmhouse, gardens and mountains in horizon at night it can get so quiet you can hear your own heartbeat or in summer crickets and at sunrise the birds singing hummingbirds and finches dance around the flowers
Our "family of six" -- three people, family dog and two guinea pigs -- enjoyed the "Buddha Barn" for three glorious weeks this summer. Fresh peaches off the tree in the enormous garden, mountains of flowers, a wonderful terrace and porch, fires in the fireplace and beautiful stars at night were just a few highlights of the property.
The farmhouse is full of elegant furnishings and offbeat touches. Not a stark environment, loads of personality. Historic charm but all the modern conveniences like wi-fi and good cookware. Lots of bedrooms, so a good choice for large families and groups, or in our case, lots of room for friends and cousins to spend the night.
No unpleasant surprises, and many nice ones, like fancy soaps left out, plenty of towels and bedding, and an assortment of sun hats by the door. The area is home to the deer tick and we were well warned about that, but we only encountered one in three weeks, on the first day.
Our hosts couldn't have been nicer and provided lots of information about the house and the area, including a Google map of resources and attractions. They gave us privacy while making themselves available in case of questions, and questions did come up during our long stay. Always a prompt and friendly reply.
Very easy to find, and a good base for exploring the charms of Sullivan County. We made day trips to Skinner's Falls, Crystal Lake, Catskills Park, Sam's Point, and even the Dutchess County fair on the other side of the Hudson.
Would be happy to return or to recommend to friends and relatives. In fact, one of those places you almost DON'T want to tell people about, lest you not be able to book a stay yourself!
