Welcome to our Luxury Holiday Home

*Featured in COUNTRY LIVING magazine. August 2010*

Beech Lodge is situated in the ideal location of Lockerley, Hampshire. This beautiful holiday home is surrounded by peaceful rivers and beautiful countryside.

The River Test meanders through the heart of the Test Valley heading for the Solent; on its way to the sea it passes some of England’s most glorious countryside. Beech Lodge is a new architect-designed holiday retreat within walking distance of the Test.

Lockerley is perfectly situated for easy access to Bath, Stonehenge, Southampton Cruise Terminal and the South Coast whilst The New Forest and Romsey Abbey are only 10 minutes away.

The ancient cathedral cities of Winchester and Salisbury are 20 minutes away.

The first floor self-catering luxury accommodation has fantastic views and is light and airy with English oak beams in a vaulted ceiling. We have equipped and furnished the lodge with great care allowing two people to relax on holiday in comfort.

The village enjoys the convenience of two pubs and a shop.

Hampshire is a county of outstanding natural beauty and as a holiday destination offers a wealth of country pursuits including fishing, shooting, walking, cycling, horse riding and sailing. There are several wonderful walks from our house, including the historic Clarendon Way between Winchester and Salisbury, Testway and Monarch's Way.

For the keen cyclist, Route 24 of the National Cycle Network passes by our door.

About David or Annie Powell

David and I spent many years in the music business in London. We retired in 2002 and searched for the perfect retirement county in which to live out side the city. We finally found our house in the area in which we had many happy holidays with our young family. We now welcome our ever growing family and guests to a beautiful part of England.

David or Annie Powell purchased this lodge in 2008

Why David or Annie Powell chose Test Valley

The Test Valley in Hampshire is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The River Test famous for its fishing is only part of the joy of this county. We are also proud of the beautiful cities nearby which offer all that is the best of British heritage and commerce. We have excellent motorway and train links to among others London, Bath, Salisbury, Stonehenge & Southampton.

What makes this lodge unique

Beech Lodge is very well equipped and we consider it part of our home- we built and decorated our holiday accommodation and maintain it to a very high standard. We really enjoy meeting our guests and are on site to offer a little guidance and advice to maximise your holiday. Our visitors are able to enjoy the country side right on the doorstep but within a short drive we have the New Forest, seaside , National Trust properties and much much more. For those who like shopping a short car or train journey is all that is required to the nearest town.

To enhance your stay in the lodge we have provided a laptop with full internet access and Skype or use our WiFi if you have your own equipment.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We stayed at Beech Lodge for a week in June and it was a perfect base for our holiday.

The lodge is very well equipped, we couldn't have asked for more. The welcome pack of provisions was a very nice touch and the location was so peaceful.

It really was a home from home and a perfect place to explore the surrounding places of interest of which there were many.

Annie and David are the perfect hosts and they made us feel very welcome indeed.

We were more than happy to add our appreciative comments to the many already in their visitors book.

We hope to pay a return visit in the future and we heartily recommend Beech Lodge to any prospective guests.

Thanks again for providing such a lovely place to stay.

Best wishes

Mark and Susie

Exceptional place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I chose this place as a start to our five week traveling vacation. We stayed three nights upon arriving into the UK. The drive from Gatwick was flawless using directions from my IPad.

(Side note - if you are from the States, get T-Mobile ... No extra charges with their international plan. Fantastic coverage)

Upon arrival, everything was perfect, and the most well equipt vacation rental we've ever stayed at. The essential food items were provided to prepare our first breakfast or have an evening snack upon arrival.

The place is just as it is shown in the photos. It certainly set the bar for our trip!

Located in a rural area, but a nice scenic drive to anywhere you wanted to visit. It's a great central location to sightsee around the area. If you want to feel as if you live in the UK, this is the place to stay.

Annie an David were fantastic hosts, kind and helpful with any questions we had.

Beech Lodge

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely place Beech Lodge turned out to be - my husband and I were delighted with the accommodation and the location. So many nearby attractions, pubs and activities - we could have spent at least another couple of weeks. Beech Lodge is modern, spotless, well maintained, very cozy and comfortable and fully stocked with everything you might need. After a day of sightseeing we looked forward to returning to our home away from home. Our hosts Annie and David were so delightful and most helpful. We really enjoyed meeting them and we were sad to leave Beech Lodge and our new friends.

We will recommend this property to our family and friends, without hesitation. We had a most enjoyable week at Beech Lodge!

Little Jewel

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed the entire experience at Beech Lodge. The property is lovely and away from the hustle and bustle of a big city. We drove to several destinations such as The Wokey Hole, The village of Cheddar, and down to the Beaulieu Car Museum. None of the drives were too long and all were through the lovely English countryside. The only odd thing about the listing comes from the fact that Americans count the ground floor as the first floor. So we were surprised to find stairs... but that's kind of a funny thing, not a good or bad thing.

Another thing we wished we had done more of while staying in this location is going to the pub. We waited until the last night to eat out (cooking was easy in the little kitchen) and then we were a little sorry we didn't try the restaurant earlier as we saw many tempting dishes being served to the tables around us. Plus we struck up conversations with patrons sitting at the bar and that made us feel welcome and at home. All in all, we are sure you will enjoy your stay at Beech Lodge because it is a little jewel.

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Beech Lodge was lovely. The Lodge is located in a quiet neighborhood but within walking distance of the local pub/resturant. The accomodations were fresh, clean and very comfortable. All the essentials were provided. The hosts were charming and helpful. Everything at the property was as described and pictured on the VRBO site. It is centrally located to numerous historical sites/cities,

Charming little apartment in the heart of the countryside

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place to stay to explore the Salisbury/Winchester area of England!!! David and Annie were perfect hosts - the apartment was quiet, spotless, modern furnishings, fully stocked, including a starter supply of goceries. This was particularly appreciated as we were arriving from the US, and did not have to rush to grocery shop. There are many diverse things to see and do within a short distance. Also, a walking trail called the Test Way is literally steps away from the lodge. There is also a tavern called the King's Arms in walking distance that has both a rustic pub, and a gourmet dining room that we greatly enjoyed. This is truely the place to stay if you want to experience life in a small country town in southern England.

Lovely Place, Lovely People!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent three nights at Beech Lodge in September, 2011. Our plans changed several times during the planning process, and Annie was so gracious and helpful throughout. The accommodations are wonderful--very clean, comfortable and welcoming, with lovely views all around. The countryside is beautiful, and there are many interesting things to see nearby. We especially enjoyed Stonehenge and Mottisfont Abbey, as well as the interesting churches in the area. David and Annie couldn't have been more gracious--we felt like we were staying at the home of friends. They were never intrusive but always ready to help with questions regarding the area sights. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Beech Lodge, and hope to return someday soon. We heartily recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in this beautiful area.

Thank you again, David and Annie! We had such a wonderful time, and are so glad to have met you!
