What initially drew me to choose this home were the animals, getting to pet and feed adorable miniature donkeys, a very cool camel and pet Scottish Highland cattle was a done deal for me... The house is awesome though, very clean and well appointed. The house is off a gravel road and it seems like you are further away from things like a grocery store but it's only ten minutes away. Downtown Asheville about 20-25 mins. Great location to drive to different parts of NC as well.
Would absolutely come back again and rent from the Upchurch family again. Had a lot of fun playing the board games as well! Thank you for allowing me pet and feed your animals and enjoy the beautiful scenery where you live.
We thoroughly enjoyed a week-long family vacation at this lovely and relaxing home. The hosts were ideal, the house was a gem, and the Fletcher area provided everything we needed. We particularly loved sitting through brief rainfalls while resting on the huge front porch. We kept thinking mosquitoes would show up, but they didn't. Would definitely stay here again . . . although having decided to move to the area, we may not need to.
We were watching our three grandsons 8, 6 and 3 for five days and looking for a fun place take them and this property was perfect. We were intrigued by having some animals for the kids to see and what a special treat. Brian took us to meet the Sicilian Donkeys and Darwin the Camel the first day there and what a great experience. We took the kids to feed them both a couple of times and they could not stop talking about it. Ok grandma and grandpa liked getting to feed the animals too. They also had five dogs that were great especially Kevin a 100 pound labradoodle who is a big ole fun guy. He came up to visit us at the house one day and we loved playing with him.
The house itself was great with all you could need for a great stay. We cooked several meals there and enjoyed them on the screened porch. The property is very nice and as advertised. We used Trip Advisor to find some nice places to eat of where there a lot in the area. We enjoyed the games there to play and there were lots of movies to watch but we stayed so busy we didn't even turn on the TV. We filled the bird feeder and suet cage and enjoyed seeing so many birds coming to the feeders each day.
The area itself was perfect for the kids as well. Only a few minutes from Ashville we took in the Fun Depot which was a great place with go carts, video games, indoor mini-golf, bumper cars etc. all around a fun place as well as the Ashville Nature Center which was very nice and went to the movies one day, and a day trip to Maggie Valley for the Wheels Through Time Museum and some gem mining. There were so many more things to do a short drive from the house including the Biltmore House which we didn't go this visit. There is a very nice park just minutes down the road with walking trails, frisbee golf and a nice playground which made for some nice visits also (great place for Pokemon Go by the way).
Could not be a nicer place to stay. It would make a great stay kids or not but for the grand kids it make a special experience.
The farm house made for a wonderful vacation.
The hosts are extremely nice and friendly people. We loved the house we stayed in, it was quiet, very clean and spacious. Our kids loved meeting the farm animal, specially Darwin (camel). The house is convenient to all major attractions. We would definitely stay at their place when we visit Asheville again.
We spent a wonderful week in Fletcher/NC. We loved the house for its open space, cleanliness, and charm. We left with a heavy heart and know that we'll be back again in the near future.
My personal favorite areas of the house were the swing on the front porch and a separate screened in porch where I could drink my coffee while listening to the birds in the trees.
The host family was outgoing and very friendly. They spent a good deal of their time introducing us to their animals, which were a delight to get to know. They were only a text away if we needed anything and they provided valuable travel recommendations to us.
For us the most important part of traveling is feeling safe and comfortable in a rental home. We felt this home exceeded our expectations.
