Enjoy miles of magnificent marine views that end in mainland views of the Cascade mountains with Mt. Baker and Bellingham to the east, the mountains of British Columbia to the north, and the city lights of Vancouver BC and the ski lifts at night. Watch a variety of marine vessels make their way across the strait of Georgia, including boaters of all types whose destinations are several smaller islands within a few miles of the cottage. Walk along hillside trails on this 11 acre parcel that includes old growth trees and native flora. Bald and golden eagles nests are located on the property. Watch for eagles soaring past or looking down on you from an old growth tree. Many other species of birds are also seen and heard about the property. Relax in the cozy atmosphere of the cottage with comfortable furnishings that include sofa and easy chair with movable down overstuffed pillows and large ottoman. The wood stove and large picture windows looking over the water create a relaxing ambiance.

We think that the north shore views are the best on the island, so we wanted to stay here. In 1999 we purchased the present 11 acres and built the cottage in 2004.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:: Year Purchased: 2004 - The sheer natural beauty of the place starting with the fantastic views and peaceful woods, the variety of birds ranging from eagles to hummingbirds, the quiet, the ability to start a short walk or long hike from the front door, the healing effect the place has on our spirits, lots of wild black raspberries in season, the varieties of wildflowers, the full moon rising over and reflecting on the water. We could keep going on, but this is a good start.

About Carla Weston

I am a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a private practice here on the island. My former husband Don and I fell in love with Orcas Island in the mid 90's, and we made a long-term goal of living here full time. In August of 2007 we achieved that goal. We like the feeling of community, and appreciate the high quality of the environment, the arts, and the natural foods that are all abundant here. Unfortunately my husband tragically died a year ago in March of 2014. It was a shock, but I am an even stronger believer in this community since the tragedy. I

love the outdoors and spend as much time as possible working, walking, beachcombing, and relaxing outside. I currently have a wonderful garden full of flowers and some veggies. I grew up on a farm in NE and I guess you just can't take the country out of the girl. I love working with people and enjoy an eclectic mix of rural practice and the arts here are outstanding.

Why Carla Weston chose Eastsound

Our first Orcas Island project was a chalet that we built in 1996 a mile west of our present site. We found the 2/3 acre and proximity to neighbors and traffic, although light, going by to be distracting from our relaxation and feeling of peace. We think that the north shore views are the best on the island, so we wanted to stay here. In 1999 we purchased the present 11 acres and built the cottage in 2004. We lived in the cottage in 2007 while we constructed the main house. This property is unique in that it has this outrageous view of the Salish Sea and the mountains of British Columbia. We also see Mount Baker. We have a surprisingly large amount of sunshine for being on the 'northshore'. Our view is approx 180degrees.

What makes this cottage unique

Close to Eastsound is a plus. Only ten minutes away, but you feel isolated on the property the way we are situated. We are about a 1/3 mile down the driveway and don't see any neighbors. The property is treed as well. There is a lot of wild-life and trails to walk. The sunrises, moonrises etc. are exceptional. The cottage is cozy and perfect for a couple.

Notes:
The fully equipped kitchen can accommodate most meals for dining in. Enjoy the view while sitting at the dining table. The quality pillow top queen sized mattress with down pillows and comforter aid a good night's sleep. The wrap around deck/balcony affords many hours of relaxation in the summer sunshine and breathtaking sunsets behind Sucia Island. For the hardy and adventuresome a several mile hike to parts of Moran State Park and sweeping beach access are possible. The property is several hundred feet below a lightly traveled road and is very private. It is a quiet and peaceful place that is sure to help renew guests from the hectic pace of daily life. Quiet haven near Eastbound

We loved Carla's hideaway--the quiet, and the eagles, and the peaceful view. Especially great location if you plan to spend time hiking near Mt. Constitution.

Nice place, loved the generous kitchen and view of the sound and mountains from inside and out.

Carla’s place is so peaceful! The views from here are wonderful even on rainy days, but absolutely spectacular on clear ones. We loved seeing Mt Baker with the sun rising over its shoulder and how the light and clouds changed on it through the day. We had a couple beautiful sunset dinners on the deck watching the alpin glow on its snowy flanks while watching ships slip by in the sound. Just the right place for my husband, toddler and I to rest and recharge. Great location close to East Sound but quieter away from main roads. Easy to get to great hikes on Turtle Back mountain, Moran State Park, and Obstruction Pass. Carla was a responsive host and we are so glad we were able to stay in her cozy treetop spot. Thanks!

Super peaceful stay on Orcas Island!

My husband & I had a wonderful time sharing our babymoon at Carla's cottage on Orcas. She was a wonderful host and made sure that we had everything we needed to make our stay seamless and cozy. The views are amazing from the cottage and the location is perfect! We slept so peacefully each night, as the cottage is very private and away from any main roads. We both highly recommend this rental to anyone looking for a nice and peaceful stay on the island!

Beautiful view, attentive owner, a few hiccups

We stayed over Christmas, and overall we had a lovely experience. There were a few minor hiccups: a dirty dish left on the counter, fruit flies, and issues with the smoke detector beeping and the kitchen sink leaking. The owner was out of town during our visit, and she was very responsive when I emailed her; I got a strong impression these were not normal issues and that she takes very good care of the property.

For those visiting in the winter months: the property is much easier to find if you can arrive when it's daylight, as some of the landmarks in the directions are invisible at night. We had no reception on our phones between the town and the house, so Google Maps wasn't available. The dirt driveway to the house is long and very steep, and I'd be afraid to try it if the weather turned icy, so you may want to check the weather before you go. Also be aware that the heater in the living room is loud; if you intend to have someone sleeping there, they may want earplugs. The heat did an excellent job of keeping the house warm, despite all the windows.

The couches are a bit on the old side and not the most comfortable, but the futon mattress they provided was perfectly comfortable for sleeping. We wound up removing the pillowtop cover on the bed because it was too soft for us.

The kitchen was well equipped, including salt and spices (but no black pepper, so if you like that, pack some). We cooked multiple times, and we had plenty of pots and dishes. The dishwasher was out of order while we were there, and there was no dish rack to dry hand-washed dishes, so we just propped them on a towel.

Overall we had a lovely time, and I'd definitely recommend staying there!

Owner's Response: This was unfortunate as I was out of town. I had family staying in the cottage over Thanksgiving and was told it was properly cleaned. A quick glance at the cottage didn't show anything amiss before I left in December. I refunded the guests their cleaning deposit in full as a result. In addition to the electric heat I also have a wood stove that warms the place beautifully. Many guests prefer this to the electric. I appreciate the feedback from this renter and have not had an issue with the sink and no noted fruit flies or carcasses since. Peace, Carla Weston (owner)

Beautiful, relaxing, peaceful and great views

The house is fantastic. You have a great view of the water from the living room and kitchen and even the bedroom. The bed is comfortable, the kitchen is well-stocked with cooking equipment and those little condiments you always forget that you need, there are books & games, there is cable TV (got to watch my Huskies), it is quiet, very clean and so relaxing. I walked every day all over the property. Carla is a great host making sure you had what you need. I wouldn't stay at any other place.

There is a $200 damage deposit required prior to staying. This is refunded in full if the place is not damaged. Also, there is a $150 cleaning deposit of which $100 is refundable providing the cleaning person does not exceed her normal charge of $50. If you have pets that we have already ok'd you must pay a $200 deposit prior to your stay. This is refundable provided no damage occurs.
