Overview

About the property

mountain view, 7 Bedrooms, 4 Baths (Sleeps 12 +)1king, 3 queen , & 3 twin

This is an unique home that is located on 59 acres of land. It has been in the same family for generations and was first used as a summer home and then winterized about 40 years ago.

The large wrap around porch has an amazing view of the White Mountains and you can sit there for hours just listening to the stream - looking out at the mountains. One of the wonderful features about this home is that you are completely surrounded by nature while you are there but just a few minutes away you have great restaurants, shopping, golf, skiing and one of the best Farmer's Markets in the area to do your food shopping. As well nearby is the Village of Barnard where there is a State Park on Silver Lake. And there is The Barnard General Store for a great breakfast! Max's Tavern at the Barnard Inn is a wonderful place to have dinner they also have a formal Dining room. The house is comfortable and cozy for two or 14. During the winter months 4 wheel or all wheel drive is needed to get to the house.

First floor: The first floor has a Master bedroom with a full bath and there is an adjoining bedroom with two twin beds, called the 'toe to toe' room. Off these rooms is the large Living room with lots of comfortable places to curl up in front of the fireplace. It has two large window seats, couch, chaise lounge, rocking chair, etc. The next room used to be the formal Dinning room but is now the Family/TV room, it too has lots of seating space, with another fireplace. Then there is the eat in Kitchen that is fully equipped and has a table that can seat 10+. There is a shed off the kitchen that has a BBQ grill. You are totally under cover while at the grill.

On the second floor there are three Bedrooms with Queen size beds and three Bathrooms. One being a suite with it's own bath. One has an open room just off it with a child's bed. Then there is the Nursery with two twin beds and another bedroom with twin beds. The upper bathrooms have old claw foot tubes with hand held showers. We are working on getting a real shower installed upstairs. All bedrooms are nicely decorated, and have lots of closet space. Also on the the second floor is the laundry room. The house is like stepping back into a time less complicated but with all the modern comforts. It is the perfect place to spend time with your family and friends in a relaxed environment.

Caretakers live on the road and are available if needed.

At one time this whole road was owned by family members. They all came here to get away for the summers in beautiful Vermont. There is a private 100 year old Fishing club at the end of the dead end road. This is a true family place. Lots of room to all be together and room to be off on your own. The Appalachian Trail is with in walking distance and off that is a great hike up to Lucy's Lookout where you get a 360 degree view of Vermont and New Hampshire.

About Property manager, Lesley Marceau

This house has never been out of the family. At one time the whole hill was family members and there were cousins running back and forth from house to house. It was used mainly in the summer to begin with and then they but in a furnace. The first furnace used wood and fit 4ft long logs. We have done our best to preserve the original charm while adding modern conveniences. WE hope you will enjoy our home.

Property manager, Lesley Marceau purchased this house in 1889

Why Property manager, Lesley Marceau chose Eastern Vermont

This house is a special place for family gathering. There is enough room to all be together and private space to be apart . The wrap around Porch is a great gathering place rain or shine and the view looking into the white Mts is breathtaking. We have had families with just two children rent the house and they say it always feels cozy, never to big. So large or small group it feels just right

What makes this house unique

The beauty of this home is that it makes you step back to a time when things were simpler . Families spent dinners together and time hanging out on the porch while the kids play in the yard and discover things about nature. If you are lucky, as some have been, you might see a moose or black bear crossing in the lower field. Nothing to fear they are just passing thru. I walk in the woods all the time with my dog and never have a problem.

Guestbook comments from the manager

This house has been a perfect spot for our family memorial gathering in honor of our daughter, sister, mother, friend. Beautiful views and gracious spaces, very serene!

Homey elegance

  • 5 of 5

We just came back from an absolutely sublime extended weekend at Red Top for our daughter's Dartmouth graduation. The house is simply perfect. There are 7 beautifully decorated, sumptuous bedrooms, all with comfortable beds and luxe linens. The bathrooms too are all lovely, and the kitchen is extremely well equipped and easily accommodates a large party for both cooking and eating. The kids played badminton, soccer, and frisbee all day and all night long on the front lawn. Wish we could've stayed longer, but we will DEFINITELY be back soon.

Beautiful Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Red Top is a beautiful home with amazing views and all the comforts of home. Our group of 4 adults and 4 young teens had more than enough room to relax and enjoy. The eat in kitchen was large enough for all and had everything we needed. The view from the front porch was worth the trip alone.Lucy's lookout and sledding down the front hill were highlights for the kids while the adults enjoyed relaxing by the fireplace. Lesley was a pleasure to work with, very responsive and accommodating. We will surely return.

Wonderful Place!

  • 5 of 5

The house and surrounding landscape was a truly wonderful place for our extended family to stay as we gathered to celebrate my sister's life during a long weekend in late August. There's plenty of space to spread out in and around the house and the porch and expansive lawn were especially lovely in the summer. Lesley was very helpful and easy to communicate with and we felt most fortunate to have found this lovely spot.

Amazing

  • 5 of 5

We hosted three families over Columbus Day weekend. The views from the house are breathtaking as well as the house itself. Plenty of room for four families to stay and feel like they all have enough space. Huge kitchen that we all could enjoy meals in. Two beautiful fireplaces to relax in front of as well as two living rooms so the kids had plenty of room to play. We are already coordinating our schedules to plan our next reunion!
