What a CABIN!

  • 5 of 5

Hands down one of the best cabins I have stayed in yet. It is a real wood cabin from the ceiling to the floor, the décor and furnishings appeared new and updated. Our group of 13 had lots of room and were so impressed with the amount of space. Very open and views to die for, lots of bathrooms which was very important since there were so many of us.. The place was stocked with everything we needed and more for preparing meals and plenty of bath towels for our large group. The huge hot tub was a big hit and we roasted marshmallows almost every night in the fire pit. I can't think of one thing we didn't like about our stay. Hope to gather again at Watauga Lake in this absolutely awesome cabin!!

Red Top Retreat was everything we hoped it'd be. The cabin is absolutely beautiful and very spacious. The setting is stunning with mountains and the lake nearby. We had a wonderful time and would recommend this cabin in a heart beat to anyone staying in the butler area.

Autumn Weekend at Watauga Lake

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I, along with our 3 grown children and their husband, wife, and girlfriend and 4 grandchildren spent a long October weekend at this wonderful property at Watauga Lake East Tennessee. Th house was spacious and well furnished. The lake and leaves were great but probably a week before peak. The property is some distance from a real grocery store, about 20 minutes, but it has 2 large refrigerators providing plenty of room for food storage. The owners provided a lot of helpful suggestions and information. We did not use a boat and the dock was nearby but not a real easy grade. I am 65 and had no problems. We hope to retun.

Owner's Response: Thanks for saying such kind words. They are most appreciated. Red Top Retreat is a great place for a large family to gather. During the summer season folks can rent or bring their own boats. Fall foliage is reserved for guests who enjoy the leaves with lots of color. Depending on rain fall Oct is typically the most for lots of colors. Winter months guests can spend in front of either fireplaces inside or the out door fire pit and if you're really outdoorsy then retreat to any of the nearby ski slopes. Glad you found all the information provided helpful. We try and steer all guests to the hidden gems in the area. Look forward to have you all as guests again here at Red Top Retreat.

Great Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Red Top Retreat in October. The cabin was just as described. Perfect views of the lake and mountains in the background. The drive to the cabin was easy (not too steep) and the driveway was paved all the way to the door. Ample parking. It was stocked with everything you need to entertain while on vacation; plenty of pots, pans, dinnerware and silverware. We enjoyed the lake; rented a pontoon boat and did some fishing. We wouldn't hesitate to book this cabin again.

Beautiful Wedding Venue and Accommodations

  • 5 of 5

We got married in this gorgeous cabin on Sep 17! We couldn't have asked for more from Red Top Retreat, as well as the other cabin we booked (Lakeside). We wanted an intimate wedding in a cabin with just our immediate families, and this was the perfect spot for us.

The company was so gracious to us during our months of preparation. They allowed us to visit in advance with our photographer and rearrange the common area during our stay for a beautiful ceremony overlooking the lake. The wedding photos inside the cabin are beautiful, and we also got photos down by the lake at the other cabin we rented. After the ceremony, our guests enjoyed food delivered by Shirley's Home Cooking with ample seating both inside and out on the decks. Everyone had nice things to say about the cabin and asked how we'd found it.

Most of our guests were also able to use Red Top Retreat for accommodations (it's HUGE), and after they left, we had it all to ourselves for a short honeymoon. During that time we took advantage of the free boat and rowed to the river and back. We also found an incredible Thai restaurant nearby (Monsoon), and we plan to go back.

We have so many happy memories from our wedding and honeymoon at Red Top Retreat, we'd recommend it to anyone, and we've already talked about renting it again someday.

Owner's Response: Thanks a lot for saying such nice things about Red Top Retreat. So glad that everything went well for you and your guests. Anyone is welcome to view the property. Online calendars can be seen 24/7. If dates are open they are welcome to take a tour. The boat trip down the river is beautiful. Glad you all had the opportunity to do the canoe ride down the river. Haven't tried the Monsoon yet but Shirley's has a line out the door every Saturday and Sunday so it must be good food. Know you are always welcome back. Look forward to hearing from you one day soon.

Notes:
After renting cabins ourselves for years we knew the important factors and convenience, Comfort and Privacy were at the top of our list. The great room offers an open floor plan combining living area, dining room and kitchen. This allows everyone to be together whether cooking, watching TV & playing board games at the dining room table. Folks who are on Deck are just off the great room and just a yell away. The large six person hot tub is on deck too secluded on the side of the home overlooking the water and mtn range. Parking for RV/Boat/Trailer: You are able to bring and park trailers and boats at digisnated area* Lake View: with boat slip just a few mins walk. You have an absolutely gorgeous view of the lake and Cherokee National Forest * Mountain View: Cherokee National forest * Boat rentals at the Local marina's.
