Why we chose this area for a vacation place: We chose to build our vacation home in this area because it offers many diverse activities.
You have winter sports to summer sports where the water is very clean. You have fall foliage to sunny summers with no humidity or mosquitoes.
You Beech Mountain, NC for snow skiing is 15 miles
Boone offers a host of good restaurants downtown off Hwy 321 business route that goes thru ASU campus where you will find independently owned restaurants like Tupelo’s café (business 321) these and others are right off the strip near ASU. On Hwy 321 bypass is Casa Rustica, great Italian as well as many regular chains like Peddler
Steak House – Ruby Tuesday - Applebee’s – Sagebrush. A great place for family dining than the Dan’l Boone Inn at the intersection of business 321 and 421 in downtown Boone - family style, southern fried and no alcohol makes it a great stop before you hit the road. They serve all day Sunday.
The Game Keeper (Best restaurant around) 5 star rating !

Nascar racing in Bristol Tennessee just 40 miles
Nearby Ski Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain
The most unique benefit is the versatility of this location. This cabin sits where the lake and river intersect. So you can enjoy the best of both worlds. Take your complimentary canoe down the river and or bring your own boat or rent a motor boat from one of the nearby marina's.
Snow skiing to jet skiing, Fall foliage to wildlife viewing right here on the property. Gorgeous views anytime of the year that are second to none. Paved roads, with good access to town, shopping and restaurants in the nearby vacation villages. Zip lines, whitewater rafting, Bristol race. Where mountains meet water.
Hands down one of the best cabins I have stayed in yet. It is a real wood cabin from the ceiling to the floor, the décor and furnishings appeared new and updated. Our group of 13 had lots of room and were so impressed with the amount of space. Very open and views to die for, lots of bathrooms which was very important since there were so many of us.. The place was stocked with everything we needed and more for preparing meals and plenty of bath towels for our large group. The huge hot tub was a big hit and we roasted marshmallows almost every night in the fire pit. I can't think of one thing we didn't like about our stay. Hope to gather again at Watauga Lake in this absolutely awesome cabin!!
We loved our stay. House comfortable fit 3 families of 4. Tons of space. Very clean. Kids loved the hot tub. Adults loved the fire pit.
Thank you for sharing your home.
We had three families from three different states and we all had a wonderful time. So much that we are actively coordinating our schedules to rent it again this summer. That is really saying something when 11 people, aged from 4 – 56 all want to repeat next year! We loved the layout of the cabin – it was more of an open floor plan than we thought, it was perfect. We had lots of space to spread out. The kitchen was spacious, a plus, since 4 of us were preparing meals together. The hot tub was great, overlooking the lake and we enjoyed it. The view of the lake and mountains was divine. We are booking for the upcoming summer, we can't wait to come back.
My book club planned a weekend getaway for the first weekend of January 2017. Unfortunately, due to snowy weather conditions it ended up being just three of us for the weekend, but we still had a ball! The cabin has a lot of rustic charm, and was very clean when we arrived. We spent our weekend taking in the gorgeous views, relaxing, chatting, and catching up ... good times with good friends. We even took a "day trip" to Banner Elk, which was a very small town but was a fun reason to leave the cabin. We are already planning to come back with our whole book club in the Fall when the weather conditions are a bit more conducive to traveling and getting to the cabin. As the owners mention, I would highly recommend and actually insist upon 4-wheel drive to get to the cabin if there is snow/ice. The final decent / driveway to the cabin is essentially 45 degrees and we would not have made it without 4-wheel drive. However, we were very impressive with the speed and efficiency that Butler, TN cleared the roadways and highways. Thanks for a great weekend and getaway! :)
While the property was nice, our deposit was not returned. They said it was for excessive floor damage, but did not provide proof we did damage, which we did not. I believe it is a scam to keep our deposit. Hope it has not happened to others!
Red Top Retreat was everything we hoped it'd be. The cabin is absolutely beautiful and very spacious. The setting is stunning with mountains and the lake nearby. We had a wonderful time and would recommend this cabin in a heart beat to anyone staying in the butler area.
