We loved our stay here! A group of 10 of us went for MLK weekend 2016 and this fit our group perfectly. The driveway fit all 5 cars and the house had everything we needed. The beds are so comfortable, the living room space is much larger than what the picture conveys (and is so warm and cozy), there are fun games in the coffee table, wifi works great, dining room table fit everyone, the kitchen was fully stocked with all of the essentials, and you can't beat the view. You definitely need 4WD for the driveway in the winter - one friend had FWD and couldn't' make the turn, but she left her car at the turn in the driveway, which worked out fine. A huge thank you to the owners for being so helpful and responsive with questions regarding our stay - she gave us lots of good tips and information for the ski resorts. We would definitely stay here again!
This house was a great winter escape for seven adults and two dogs. Although we had below zero temperatures, we still enjoyed everything Snowshoe had to offer. The location of the house was great for hopping on and off the shuttle service. Several of us also walked to trails for snowshoeing right from the house. The house had a very comfortable and cozy feel. We made great use of the wood fireplace which provided a good heat source for the large, open living room and kitchen. The house had all the amenities we needed, including a land-line phone and wireless, which we all used because we had zero cell service. I recommend bringing food and drink items to cook and eat throughout your stay. There are very few places to buy groceries, although the restaurants on top of the mountain are great! Our favorite place was The Junction, a saloon atmosphere. Overall, we had a wonderful stay. We appreciated all the information we were provided by the owner and his family.
My wife and I were looking for a rental, one that was on the mountain and would accommodate the two of us and our two dogs. While this house is set up for larger parties, it didn't feel like we were in "too much house" for just us and the dogs. All of our criteria were met: not too busy of an area, can't see the neighbors, nice views (this might have been the best part), a good kitchen, comfortable living room / common area with a fireplace and a space for the dogs to run around and do their business. The owner provided some great recommendations in terms of where to eat, rent snowboard/ski equipment and who to see for more detailed guidance on all of the above. Additionally, he was very adamant about calling him with any questions we had. Located just a couple miles from the Snowshoe Village, we were exactly where we wanted to be: close to the village, but not right in the middle if the hustle and bustle; just a short walk from multiple trail heads for walking the dogs and exploring the woods. The bedrooms were cozy and comfy, as were the couches and lounge chair. Bathrooms were clean and up to date. It was nice to just turn off the phones, take it day by day and enjoy being secluded up on the mountain fro a week. All in all, this house left nothing to be desired and we will definitely be visiting again for both winter and summer vacations. HIghly recommend going in the middle of the week, as the rush seemed to be leaving as we arrived on Monday and arriving as we left on Friday.
Considerations: There is zero cell service for Verizon and most other carriers. There is a land line with free long distance at the house. Free wifi and satellite TV are also provided. 4-wheel drive. Long, steep, winding stairway from driveway to front door (as is the same for most all the single-family homes outside of the village). Not much of a yard. The driveway is big enough for 4-6 vehicles, though it would be tight for turning around to exit wit more than just 2-3 vehicles. Bring your own groceries…the stores there have your basics, but not everything you'd want if you're trying to do all your own cooking. Bring your own DVDs if you want to watch movies. Hit up the Depot in the Village for guidance on any and all Q's regarding what to do and how to do it - ski/snowboard/snow mobile, etc.
Charming cabin that we stayed in for a week during a huge snowstorm(>30"). Cabin was adequately furnished with all of the creature comforts and made for a pleasant and comfortable stay. David was great to work with and provided us with several recommendations on palces to eat and things to do.
Would highly recommend the cabin for a family or two couples - ample space given the upstairs lost with reading rooma nd seperate bathroom.
With the snowfall and weather, we saw lots of trucks getting stuck and highly recommend four wheel drive if you are going during the ski season.
The shuttle that takes you to the junction and to the silvercreek runs often and it is very easy to have them pick you up/drop you off. No issues with waiting or logistics here.
Would highly recommend the cabin - view is wonderful and it is set back enough that noise from the road is not an issue. A roaring fire, wonderful glass of wine and a tranquil sunset are all that is needed after a long day on the mountain.
The Snowshoe Cabin was a great accommodation for our 3-day ski trip. It had plenty of room for our group of 10 as well as a good location on the mountain. The home was stocked with everything we needed: towels, blankets, cook-ware, etc. There were some electrical problems on one wall, causing the TV not to work during our stay. However everything else was perfect and only added to our enjoyable experience at Snowshoe.
With the early snowfall - thanks to Hurricaine Sandy, my husband and I decided it would be fun to get a glimpse of the Snowshow resort before the ski season. This beautiful chalet provided a great escape and most comfortable accomodations for our weekend get-away. Most spectacular are the views and the comfortable living room area and fireplace - a great place to curl up with a book or game with the family. Bedroom accomodations are cozy, well appointed, and with exceptionally comfortable mattresses. A great place to melt after a day of hiking, skiing or whatever you choose to do.
We had a wonderful time hiking the back trails around the lake - with snow up to our knees. Most locals thought we were nuts but we loved every bit of it. We are coming back for Thanksgiving weekend - slopes will open early this year.
Can hardly wait to come back and re-aquaint myself with skiing and other winter sports. We will definitely want to stay in this house as it met all of our needs and expectations for comfort, convenience, and seclusion. The owner is most accomodating and engaged with assuring that we had all that we needed. Also gave us some hints on area attractions. Really felt safe a secure with this relationship.
At nearly 5000 feet, Snowshoe offers the mid-Atlantic's best skiing with over 190' of annual snowfall. The resort offers numerous activities, including snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking, and golf on a Gary Player championship course ranked #1 in the state, a lake with activities in summer and indoor/outdoor pools, multiple restaurants, shops and a spa. World-class fly-fishing, the Green Bank telescope, and Cass scenic railroad are all within 15 minutes as are thousands of acres of national and state forest. The area hosts several music, food, art, and heritage festivals throughout the year.
Our chalet is located in Snowshoe Resort, near the top of the mountain, and on the only road with private homes and personal shuttle service throughout the resort. Located on an acre of land, our home offers privacy and personal space, while retaining all of the convenient amenities of being located in a resort.
