Our group of four women attending a wonderful conference was made even better by this wonderful home. The home is nicely appointed. We chose to use the rental car option - what a deal. It was roomy. Each day we had to consciously choose to attend the conference as we were so comfortable in our home away from home.
What made it great for us? The layout of the rooms, the pool with cabana, chaise lounges and tables for sitting. As four individuals, we left our families at home - so it was great to feel like we had great communal area for socializing, but space to just sit in silence and read or daydream. One block from the house is an amazing park with wonderful stairs to walk - which offer a view of the river valley floor. It was a great way to start the morning.
And, on especially calm mornings we were treated to air balloons silently drifting by - around 6:45am. Picture perfect.
So, the conference was good - but these accommodations really turned a good conference into an exceptional experience.
To Mary, Sue, and Horace - thank you, thank you, thank you! Your responsiveness and attention to details really were hospitality in its best form.
Mayra - thank you also for making your home available to us. Blessings to all.
If you are looking for a large(5 bdrm), beautiful home, in a lovely area, this is it!! I was impressed with how upscale it was with its smartly furnished living areas, including the outdoor spaces. The home is truly grand with it's marble floors and and open floor plan. The upstairs area was just as large as the main floor and had a pool table, bumper table and small bar. It exceeded my expectations in almost every way, and I am really picky! The pool area was perfect for day and evening gathering of family and friends. We had a nice BBQ dinner the first night and had no problem cooking on the large grill by the pool. The grounds were very private and nicely landscaped. We were able to fit 5 cars in the private garage and fenced in driveway . The only thing to be aware of is that the Downstairs bathroom is the smallest of the three bathrooms and there are 2 bedrooms downstairs. I ended up sharing the enormous upstairs, master bathroom w my cousins. It was not a problem. Everyone said it was a small price to pay for such an amazing home. My family even toasted to me for finding it!!! By the way...it was also a great location!! Close to old Town and both freeways!! (10 to 15 mins to everywhere we needed to go) You will not be disappointed w this rental and the generous goodie baskets.
Thus beautiful home is ideal. We celebrated a family wedding and enjoyed many meals together and late night conversations near the pool. The outdoor furniture was perfect. Your gift of a "goodie box" for the bride and groom was exceptionally thoughtful. Plus, the roses blooming around the courtyard were stunning. We cut a few for a vase on the table. Thank you so much. Kudos to Mary.
Our trip began with a movie-star style stretch limo pickup (complements of friendly and helpful property manager, Horace) from the airport. Upon entering the house, we found marble tile throughout a sparkling clean two story floor plan with 3 bedrooms upstairs (including large master br) and 2 downstairs. The game room upstairs offered an alternative gathering place to the sunken living room downstairs. The heated pool was crystal clear with generous pool furniture and covered patio area for enjoying the fresh NM air and watching balloons float by all week long. Horace even provided a high chair (thanks, Horace's mom!) for our 15 month old grandson. (We brought our own Pack and Play crib and gate to block the stairs to avoid toddler mishaps.) For any group needing 5 queen beds, this is an absolutely awesome place. It's just 10 minutes from the zoo or Old Town, and a quick ride to I40 to head toward the Sandias. Thanks, Horace! (And owner, Mayra!)
Let's start with the basics:
1. The property is beautiful. There is a huge area around the pool that became the gathering place for assorted relatives who stopped by.
2. Mayra (owner) and Horace(property manager) were a true pleasure to work with. We were in Albuquerque for a wedding, and the events started the day we arrived. They were very accommodating, allowing us to check in early so everyone had time to get ready.
3. The property was clean and well supplied. I rent houses frequently, and this one was the best supplied of any I have previously rented. Besides the standard bath linens, they also had pool towels, pool toys, assorted spices and condiments for cooking, as well as travel sized toiletry items guests may have forgotten.
4. The location is great. It was easily accessible from all directions.
The only caution I would have is for families with young children. The flooring in the entire house is tile, including the stairs and the step downs into the living room. The combination of little wet feet coming from the pool, and this much tile, meant that all children had to be attended at all times.
Overall, this property was great for what we needed, and I would definitely recommend it!
I want to thank you for our lovely time in Albuquerque as we celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with our entire family. From the first squeal of “we’re famous” (I would say the airport pickup in the limo was a huge hit), to the conversation this past week of “can we go back to that mansion?”, this trip was a rousing success.
The house was lovely and the kids loved having "their" pool so they could swim before breakfast, after breakfast and any other time we were at the house. The out door living accommodations were delightful and I think we ate every meal (at the house) outside. It was large enough to comfortably handle our group of 12 including six children ages 3,3,5,6,7 & 9 as well as us "more mature" people who have been married for 50 years. We had lots of together time but the house was large enough to "get away" when you needed some private down time.
One of the loveliest things that happened was the next door neighbor who brought fresh apricots from his tree and learned more about us. With six small children, it was certainly not a secret that we were there, but he was friendly and did not complain about our noisy little ones.
Another big hit was the park at the top of the hill behind the house. I am sure it has a name, but I don’t know what it is. That is a magnificent spot to watch the sunset and really see the “watermelon” color on the Sandia mountains and then the lights of the city slowly coming on until finally, the entire valley sparkles. Absolutely breathtaking! The adults all felt that if we lived in the mansion, we would go up there every night to see the sunset. The children would gladly go with us to run and play tag in the large grassy area or on the playground equipment. One morning (we also enjoyed mornings in the park) we saw two hot air balloon land in the large grassy area.
We wanted to select a spot that pushed us slightly out of our comfort zone...that offered us another view of our beautiful country...that no one is our group had spent much time in...that challenged us intellectually and emotionally and spiritually. Albuquerque and the Route 66 mansion certainly filled the bill. One week was just not enough.
Horace, I appreciate your working with us and helping to make our 50th so special. Your restaurant and shopping suggestions were spot on. We feel as if we truly have a friend in Albuquerque. Come visit us anytime.
