Happy Thanksgiving

  • 5 of 5

This was an ideal place to have a large family "Happy Thanksgiving". I loved that the whole family(all 17 of us)could sit at the same table and enjoy our Thanksgiving celebration together.

There was plenty of space for everyone to comfortably sleep and the kids spent mose of their time playing in the game room.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Gert! We looove the big dining tables and think this is the perfect home for Thanksgiving. So so glad you were able to try something new this year and have it be everything you hoped for. I'm not one to solicit reviews even though they tell us we should. I feel like it's asking for a pat on the back and well, it just don't feel the same when you ask for it. So we really do appreciate you taking the time to write Gert. I know your trip was planned long in advance so with that came much expectation. I am glad we lived up to it and our home helped make it possible for you to comfortably bring the family together.

Nice house but very unresponsive owner

  • 3 of 5

The house was a little dated, but good for our large family. Half the family spent the weekend downstairs playing pool, shuffleboard, and watching the big screen tv (and spending time in the hot tub!). The rest of the family spent their time relaxing and talking upstairs at the large kitchen table. Everyone had a great time.

A few weird things—the temperate was hard to control. We never had the fireplace on so that wasn’t part of the problem. It got very hot in the house even if we turned the heat all the way down. There were dirty sheets left on some beds, sheets left in the washer and dryer, and dishes left in the dishwasher.

My biggest complaint is about the responsiveness of the owner. Michael was responsive when I first booked the house. However, once the 2nd payment was due, I asked him 3 times between 1/26 and 1/30 if I should use the same payment method as before. Michael never responded, so I sent the check via mail. I sent him an email on 2/1 and a text on 2/6 asking him to confirm he received the check. He did not respond to that email or text, but cashed the check a few days later. I sent an email on 2/9 stating I saw he cashed the check and asking him when we would receive check-in instructions and if we’d be able to check in early. I also called and texted and he never responded. He finally responded on 2/12, 4 days before check-in, with a standard email that did not address my questions or acknowledge I had tried contacting him. Keep in mind that Michael had us pay via check and not on the secure HomeAway site—meaning my family sent him thousands of dollars that wasn’t securely made. This caused my family a lot of stress—when Michael didn’t respond I was nervous he had run off with my money until he finally responded. People who book these houses usually have a large group that requires coordinating—my family had questions about cars, check-in time, etc, and I wasn’t able to answer them because Michael wouldn’t respond. Michael did respond to one message I sent him when we were at the house about the laundry in the washing machine, but I haven’t heard from him since (I also sent him a message the day we checked out because a door wouldn’t lock—and no response from him). I also don’t like that Michael can take 6 weeks to return the deposit—there is no reason it should take that long unless he wants to wait until he makes sure you write a good review.

Overall, nice house but not worth the stress of having an unresponsive owner.

Place for lasting memories

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say it enough this place is great! This is the second year 12 of us (6 couples) stayed at this house and in 2014 stayed in another place of Michael's. The one review I saw in here is very strange to me because I have NEVER had a problem with Michael not responding to anything before or during our stay. We had no problem except for a strange thing that was out of his control. We had 6 couples and needed 6 sets of King Size sheets. I decided to make my bed later and found out our fitted sheet was only a Full size. I sent Michael a text and he responded right away apologizing and sure enough the woman who handles the linens came over with a new set. Love the new shuffleboard table!! Looking forward to next year.. making memories with great friends in a wonderful place.

Amazing weekend

  • 5 of 5

My huge family decided to go away for a weekend and we found this great home on I must say the house was big enough for everyone to have privacy. The huge dining table was great for big family dinners which we enjoyed for both breakfast and dinner. The pool table area and movie theater was were we spent most of our nights hanging out. The memories that we made their will last us a lifetime. The owner Micheal, worked with us on payment arrangements and even allowed us to check out later on Sunday which was great, not having to rush out and hit the road so early in the morning.

nice location, but unresponsive owner. just avoid

  • 1 of 5

They admitted they turned the house over too quickly and didn't really clean it. We spent our whole first day cleaning it and reported issues to the owner who replied days later. The septic backed up and we were forced to move (too bad when we told him it smelled and the toilets and faucets ran slow, no one cared). We moved to his other house which was smaller and were given no consessions for having to then clean a second filthy house. Then he charged us a $20 extra car fee- we only had 4 cars and were allowed 5. He finally admitted it was a clerical error but never refunded that either. It's a nice area and we .Andre the best of it, but there are a lot of places to stay and I'd avoid this place and his other homes as well. Maybe he's still out fishing 6 months later and that's why I haven't received my security refund he held in error...? Aside from the fact the cleaning service gave us towels that smelled of smoke that we had to take to the laundry mat to wash (because we were afraid to use his washing machine. Rightfully so since we came back to a septic backup). It's a house. Things inevitably go wrong, but as an owner you know people are on vacation and you need to make right if your house has an issue. Needless to say we won't be back.

Owner's Response: Notice the date of this response and the one from Monica two above. They were one day apart and are polar opposite reviews. I am the only constant in this equation so take this review for what it is.. THAT SAID- We Did our best to make this family happy. YES our people said they did not have time to clean properly but that was because this guest ARRIVED TWO HOURS EARLY!!! for their rental and started emptying their vehicles while the cleaning crews tried to do there job. The guests kept loading the kitchen with food boxes and bags before we could properly get to everything. We also have an inspection duo that does a final walk thru before the guests arrive to make sure everything is alright, but they were unable to do so with 20 people and luggage around. Yes there was a septic backup.. but she failed to mention in her review that when the alarm went off they turned it to silent and ignored it. When they finally did call ME I was 40 miles offshore fishing as she says. There is a phone number posted next to the alarm which they failed to call. That is a direct line to the septic company. Had they called that when the alarm went off initially we would have had no issue. After finally speaking with her I had the septic company come out. there was a pebble stuck in the pump. an easy fix but by now the water had backed up into the house and the carpet was wet so we needed to move them to another house. We also offered free towel service and trash removal service for their trouble. Which I'll say again, could have been avoided altogether if they did not ignore the initial alarm and called me right away. The house we moved them to is bigger than the first but a different layout. It is 4 stories with spectacular views. It is our personal favorite house and the one we try to stay in when we go up. We RARELY get cleaning issue calls and we do over 100 rentals per year. 6 calls per year would be high and ultimately it is an honest mistake that led to the problem. As far as cutting off contact goes. There comes a point when you simply cannot argue with someone any longer. We Gave her free trash service. Free towels and bed linens. offered 10% discount on a future rental. But she still wanted to yell and scream. Not sure what makes people who they are but this was an ordeal that could have easily been avoided. I didn't even mention the Chemdry carpet cleaning and replacement bill as well as the septic bill I received.

We stayed at one of Michael's other places last year (which was great too) and decided to try another since we had loved the other one so much plus the great customer service we had received... This place was 5 star too. Love the layout, the hot tub, the amazing table to sit for meals. We have 6 couples that go and having a meal together is very important to us. There are many places that can fit you for sleeping but not for dining. I recommend this highly! Enjoy.
