Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + A/C Sleeping Porch, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

PLEASE CLICK ON "CALENDAR" FOR AVAILABILITY. THANK YOU.

There's a reason our property has the most and best reviews of any other in Lake Placid...it's a great value and the most fun! Truly an 'old style' lake house with one of the best docks on the best lake in Highlands County. From here you have a long, unobstructed view of the entire lake, including the stunning sunsets. Beautiful 3600 acre Lake June has the highest water quality and white sand bottom.

The home is not fancy, but is clean, cozy, comfortable, and is one of the best values on the lake. If you want a home where everything is new and perfect, then this is not the place for you. Also, if you don't like to see bugs or lizards (usually not inside!), this is not the place for you, as in the summer the lake often has swarms of various types of flying insects which appear for a day or two, and are gone just as quickly.

You could pay more, but why? You can certainly rent a fancier home, but if you're staying on the water, isn't the dock and the view really what it's all about? It's hard to beat this property if that's what is important to you.

PLEASE CLICK ON THE 'VIEW CALENDAR' ICON ON THE HOME PAGE TO SEE IF THE DATES YOU WANT ARE AVAILABLE BEFORE CONTACTING US. SORRY, WE CANNOT RENT FOR LESS THAN ONE WEEK DURING JUNE - AUGUST, BUT WILL CONSIDER PARTIAL WEEK APRIL- MAY, AND SEPT - DECEMBER. WILL ONLY RENT MONTHLY JANUARY - MARCH

I was flattered to see that some of the other property owners in Lake Placid have even copied the exact description of our property in order to promote their own on vrbo. It reminds me of the old saying 'Imitation is the greatest form of flattery.' But my response to that, and question for you, a potential visitor to our property, is 'why go with an imitation?' Take your next vacation at the most and best reviewed lake house in all of Lake Placid, Florida...ours!

For those of you with children, please know that all lake houses are not created equal. Some lakes and locations are not as suitable for younger children (or even adults) to enjoy the water in safety. This property has a 100' clean, white sand bottom with shallow water out to the end of the dock....perfect for younger children. Unlike some other locations on the lake which have dark, deeper, water with a mucky bottom near the dock, we have none of that. This is the perfect place to wade and enjoy the water whether you're 8 or 80!

Also be aware of the importance of the location of the house on the lake. Some homes advertised on vrbo are on canals, or less desirable areas of Lake June. We are on the north side of the lake (see map below), with a completely unobstructed view of the entire lake, including the lovely sunsets. It truly is about location, location, location....and we've got one of the best locations on the lake!

The home has two bedrooms EACH with king size bed. One bedroom has attached bathroom, which is small, with a very small shower. This is an old house, built back in the day when small bathrooms were the norm. The full bath (still small), is off the dining room. Also, there are no formal closets with doors, but there are places in each bedroom to hang all the clothes you would need to bring to the lake.

Both bedrooms have mostly new furniture as of September, 2015.

The sleeping porch (a/k/a Florida room) is air conditioned, and has three futons which convert from great couches into twin beds. Also, there is a comfy rocking chair with ottoman, and nice leather recliner, all overlooking the lake.

Please note: One potential tenant stopped by to check out the property when we were there and remarked: 'It is so much bigger than it appeared in the photos online.' If that is your impression from the photos, let me give you the stats on the rooms: The sleeping porch/Florida room (room on the back of the house with futons overlooking the lake). is 13.5 wide by 25 long. The bedrooms are 15 feet long by 9.5 feet wide; these numbers do not include the armoire/closet areas shown in both photos.

I did not measure the kitchen but once again, our visitor said 'this is larger than I thought it was from the photos.' To be sure, this is not a palatial home, but perhaps it is a little larger than the photos suggest.

There are ceiling fans in most rooms, including the sleeping porch/Florida room. This area has what one of our visitors called 'a wall of windows' so you can watch the lake activities from the comfort of your easy chair or rocker in air conditioned comfort if you wish.

Another surprising and rare amenity at this property: enclosed porch has large hot tub and patio table with seating for six.

Large back yard has picnic table and wooden swing hanging from mossy hickory tree. In Dec. 2016 we added a small "grilling patio" and walk way off of the back porch to make it easy to roll the grills out back to cook.

In January 2011, we replaced all carpet and vinyl throughout the house. The wood floor underneath still creaks, but everything is clean and neat. We also just installed a 46' HD flat screen TV in the living area. Smaller flat screen TVs located in bedrooms, one with DVD player.

We have excellent quality, high pressure city water coming in to the house.

The washer and dryer are located in the garage, which is not air conditioned. That's where you will see more than a few lizards which like to scoot in and out under the garage door. You must go out the front door, walk down a 15 foot covered walkway, to get in to the garage.

Most lake houses have a dock, but not like this! Two large, custom swings under cover, plus plenty of room for lounge chairs out in the sun. The rope swing is a hit with children of all ages! Feed the fish from the dock, watch ospreys, sandhill cranes, egrets, ducks, seagulls, otters and other wildlife.

Portable fire pit (supply own firewood) allows you to enjoy a campfire by the lake and roast marshmallows, tell storie, or just quietly relax.

Whether you are a retired couple looking to relax for a month or more in the winter months, or a family looking for a super fun vacation get away at a great value, this is the place for you.

Don't just take it from us, read the reviews below written by some of the folks who have stayed with us and see if this fun property is what you're looking for. If you have any doubts or questions, call or e-mail me and I'll send more information and photos and will be happy to give you all the information you need.

About David (e-mail); Vicki (phone)

We have now become a family of 9 with the addition of our two new grand daughters. We look forward to them and our many future grand children creating the same great memories we have at the lake.

David (e-mail); Vicki (phone) purchased this cottage in 2003

Why David (e-mail); Vicki (phone) chose Central Florida

We began visiting Lake June 19 years ago as a weekend getaway and quickly fell in love with the area. Eleven years ago, we finally took the plunge and purchased this property. We have shared more laughs, played more games, told more stories, and had more fun at this place than at any other vacation spot we have ever visited. This is truly the best investment in family time we have ever made.

What makes this cottage unique

For boaters, I've installed four pilings alongside the walkway to the dock so you can securely tie up your boat and leave it in the water. In addition, there are 2 'hitching posts' near the dock where you can tie off your boat or waverunner if you wish. Owner's boat lifts may be available for use, depending on whether my boats are there, and what type of boat you have. Please inquire.

My favorite time at the lake is sunrise on the dock with a cup of coffee and the Good Book. There is no better time or place to enjoy the beauty and solitude the lake provides. For those who like to sleep in, and after the day-long excursions of tubing, wakeboarding, skiing, jet skis, sailing, rope swinging, water volleyball, or just snoozing on the swings, the pontoon ride at the end of the day is an all time favorite. You just can't beat seeing the sunset from the pontoon as you slowly cruise around the lake, waiving to the other boat loads of folks who are doing the exact same thing.

And after doing everything else, a great way to relax is to slide into the large hot tub on the screened in porch.

If you like to cook, you'll love the DCS Professional gas cook top complete with 4 large burners, grill, griddle, and massive exhaust hood.

For the money, you can't beat this as a place to enjoy the company of friends and family! This property has 100' on the water, and is 200' deep, plenty of room to have lots of fun in the water and park your cars, play yard games, etc. Please note, this is a quiet neighborhood so we will not rent to those who are looking for a place to have a wild party. Lots of fun, absolutely; too much drinking and craziness, absolutely not.

Guestbook comments from the owner

(This review was submitted by Barbara C to VRBO for posting, but due to technical difficulties, it did not get posted. She then sent the Reveiw to me, asking me if I could post it on her behalf, so that's what I have done (first time this has ever happened). Here is the unedited Review:

Our stay at the Lake June Lake House was everything and more than we ever expected. The house was clean, cozy and was supplied with more than any turn key rental I have ever been in. The kitchen was fabulous and provided great enjoyment for all to be able to prepare meals and visit. We cooked every meal there. Two grills were provided for use which we enjoyed tremendously. We had friends stop by to fish with us and there was more than adequate space for all. The swimming beach was perfect and my grandson had a marvelous time in the water. The dock, rope swing, swings and chairs provided the perfect relaxation after a hard day of fishing! The docking facilities were outstanding. To be able to dock our boat, get up in the morning and go fishing was the best. The location couldn't have been more perfect; one mile from the boat launch which was very nice, centrally located on the lake for fishing, and extremely convenient to local grocery stores, marinas, and bait and tackle shops. If you are looking for an ideal fishing vacation, this is it. There are several great lakes for fishing surrounding Lake June within a 30 minute to hour drive if you want to try them. Lake Josephine, Lake Istapogha, Okeechobee, and many more allowing for varied fishing trips. Lake June is a great fishing lake in and of itself, but also allows for skiing, tubing, swimming, and other water sports.

There is no question from my family and friends that this was the best time ever. The house felt like home. The owners of the Lake June house went above and beyond in providing outstanding amenities, and personally caring that we had everything we needed to make our stay a truly great experience. We are already planning on another trip next year it was such an enjoyable time. Hats off to the Lake June lake house!

Perfect winter escape from Iowa cold temperatures! Diana J

  • 5 of 5

We loved the place so much that we already reserved it again for next year!! We kayaked, golfed at a nearby course, fished, spent time lounging on the spacious dock, as well as soaking in the hot tub. The owners were very accommodating and we look forward to returning!

A Wonderful Escape From the Hustle and Bustle

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lake June Cottage. The weather was perfect. The view of beautiful Lake June was spectacular, particularly off of the brand new, expanded dock that (like so many others) had recently suffered damage due to Hurricane Irma.

Almost immediately upon arriving (basically after unloading the car) we began absorbing the peaceful, relaxing state that (frankly) was the object of our getaway to Lake June. The wide view of the lake from inside the cottage invited us to marvel at its beauty.

The amazing sun-rises set the stage each morning for our renewal, and the equally stunning sun-sets put a nice exclamation point on the splendor of each day.

While we sought to unwind from the "real world", there is clearly an abundance of options that, on a different visit, I would have equally enjoyed; such as boating, fishing, skiing, etc. This time, I guess I was just more into getting my batteries recharged, which I accomplished.

I have already begun to plan for my next stay at Lake June.

Exceptional and charming home- just like we had hoped (and by a nature preserve)- simply loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived early evening and it was an easy find. It was down the road to the famous little landmark Jaxon's by the Lake I had heard so much about. I was so excited to see it there. Right away, the home and lake brought on a peace and relaxation that we really needed. We were excited to see it clean and a REALLY nice kitchen. My husband thinks he is a chef, so he was quite pleased as well. The TV's are nice, the couch is big and comfy and the room in the back has privacy if you have kids (or anyone) that wants a diff. place to relax. There is enough room for everyone. The beds are so comfortable and we just felt cozy in a quiet town.

The back yard has an awesome grill area and there is a hot tub. The grill area is wonderful because you want to be outside as much as you can. The dock is long and there is a beach to play in or wade in. It was cold, and my daughter still had a blast wading around. The dock has the most comfortable swing. I fell asleep reading my book.

I also enjoyed the friendly area- everyone is so nice there. The owners are really nice too. This is the kind of place you go to each year. The type of place where you feel like you are renting from family.

The view is incredible and we basically were outside morning, noon and night.

There is also a cute town to visit and on Sunday they have a small festival. We truly loved it. Like I said, this is truly a small old "Mayberry" feeling town. There are also a few great restaurants close by too.

We look forwards to staying again. I think the comfort and view of the lake is simply worth going again! It is the type of place you go to to bond with people. To just slow down and take a break. You can rent canoes etc. locally, just look it up when there.

Girlfriends Getaway!!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't ask for a better gathering place for my girlfriends of 44 years!! This beautiful lake cottage was a perfect central location to meet. We were blessed with gorgeous weather and scenery and were even visited one early morning by two great horned owls! We enjoyed chilling out on the big beautiful dock , cranked up the nice hot tub and played cards . It was a time to catch up with each others lives and reflect on our blessings. We hope to gather again next year for another great reunion!
