I live in the main house at 4911 Tallowood Way, otherwise lovingly known as the 'Compound'. I enjoy the 3 fenced in acres, the privacy and the variety of tropical plants that I get to enjoy on a daily basis. I can step out my door and watch the cardinals and blue jays dance amongst the trees, I can marvel at the red and purple passion vine flowers or see what exotic flower the bromlieads have produced. Every day is an adventure.
The privacy was wonderful with room for our dog to get some exercise. The place was neat and clean, but for a 10 day stay, no broom/dustpan, or vacuum available. Largest pot for cooking was a medium saucepan. Three lightbulbs burned out, but none were available for replacement, but the renter did have paper towels, toilet paper, soaps, etc. even some condiments, spices, etc. Wifi was spotty, as was cell phone reception. It was close to shopping and for our needs we would definitely do it again. If you are looking for privacy and a modest place to stay with a pet, this one will do it!
Property nice and secluded and only 15 minute drive to ocean beach. Our week worked out very well, except for noisy fridge all was great. We will return
I stayed here from for one wonderful week! Personally I don't think the pictures do this justice. This place was a dream for the price that we spent and the location we are at. This place had a washer and dryer which helped a lot. The beds are comfortable and rooms are cozy. There was a charcoal grill that worked out to our benefit so we took advantage of that. We met two new friends from the owner(2 hound dogs) but the owner came right away thinking they were a bother(quite the contrary). There is a gate in the front which was a small hassle for leaving the property but honestly wasn't that big of a deal.
There would be a few things I would improve such as having a reliable Wi-Fi . The TV(and provider) seemed a big dated. The outside sliding door seem like it should have a screen (so we can keep it open). The water pressure in the bathroom could be a bit more powerful(even though it's a dream of a bathroom).
Overall I loved my stay here, and if I would definitely recommend to others looking for a cheap place in a nice location, definitely consider giving this a second look!
This property provided everything we needed for a short 5 night stay. We choose this property because it was pet friendly and extremely reasonably priced. The owner was very responsive and easy to work with. The bungalow is closer to the main house than we expected, and actually shares the back yard with the main house. Our biggest surprise was the 2 enormous Bassett Hounds that visit the bungalow on a frequent basis! They are very sweet and only want attention, but we have 2 very small dogs that were frightened by the big dogs. We most likely wouldn't have rented had we known that the other dogs would be in the same area. My biggest concern and why I'm not giving the property a 5 star rating, is a cleanliness issue. Inside rugs were really dirty and over all the floors just didn't seem clean, and I'm not speaking of the little critters that come in from the jungle like surroundings!
This is a lovely cottage placed in a unique tropical garden in a private neighbourhood. We enjoyed our stay at the Butterfly cottage which is beautifully decorated, with spacious bedrooms, comfortable beds, a lovely big shower and practical kitchen. The surrounding garden is very dense with a variety of tropical vegetation frequented by many birds and insects specific to this area, anti mosquito spray is a must when outside. Easy to access all main driving routes and shops and beaches are only a short drive away. We'd recommend this cottage because of it's unique beauty, tranquility and charm but don't think it's a place for those who get creeped out by natures little critters.
My husband and I wanted a last minute getaway and I think I read every review from every property. The Butterfly Bungalow exceeded all of our expectations and more! This property is just a short drive from everything, but with 3 secluded acres of tropical paradise, it feels like you just escaped to a secluded island. This is our new favorite spot, for sure!
