Old country southern charm is the feel of this delightful cottage that dates back to the early 1900s. This cottage called 'Magnolia' is tastefully decorated with wonderful antiques and period furniture that give it a casual country feel. Along with its sister cottage 'Maple' (vrbo #162157), and now the newest addition 'Mulberry', this cozy guest cottage, surrounded by forest, is on the north side of Tallahassee on the beautifully Canopied Meridian Rd adjacent to Alfred B MaClay State Park and Lake Overstreet Trails. Across the street is Forest Meadows Athletic centre with Tennis courts and swimming pool (open summers). Enjoy the melody of birds, crickets and cicadas throughout the day and see the deer in the morning and evening from the front and back porches furnished with comfortable wicker couch and chairs.

The owner has an interesting story in that she was born in the Netherlands, grew up in Canada and has lived in Tallahassee for the last 35 years where her children grew up. The Dutch background spells the importance of cleanliness; the Canadian background spells the gift of hospitality; and the south spells relaxed and casual. So the 3 C's: cleanliness, comfortable and cozy best describes what you will find in each of the 3 M's: Mulberry, Magnolia and Maple cottages. The owner has made lots of good memories on this 3 acre property. We stay here to celebrate various holidays with our 10 grandchildren. The space outside has room for outdoor games and cookouts and the cottages are comfortable and cozy
Diane Roorda purchased this cottage in 2007
This property provides a place for me to enjoy my gardening hobby. I have planted many flowers, shrubs, fruit trees so that there is something blooming and something to eat year round. During the winter the oranges are delicious and a great way to start the morning. In addition there are lemons, kumquats, figs, loquats, persimmons and even some blackberries and mulberries growing.
The camellias are growing and will start flowering in December so there is plenty to see and enjoy.
The property is located next to a state park that offers 900+ acres of woods and trails to walk. The wildlife is fun to watch and the house has the feel of stepping back into another century
Stayed here with my family for a weekend. It was a great location next to the parks and we enjoyed the large grassy area the house is located upon. Wifi was fast and strong, The owner was great to work with and answered all our questions. Beds were comfortable .
Would definitely recommend this place to anyone.
Words can't describe our stay in this special home. My family stayed in Diane's lovely home for our daughter's graduation. We had a party on the property with family and friends and it was the perfect day! The memories created last weekend will stay with us forever. The house was clean and was perfect for all 7 of us who stayed there.
I would love to stay at this property again one day! Thank you for your hospitality Diane.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Magnolia cottage. It is conveniently located between the Longleaf pine forests of the Red Hills and the amenities of Tallahassee. The house is well appointed and comfortable. We will definitely stay here again!
This is a great old home that was really well built. Solid as a rock. It is like going back in time in a way, but the house provided everything we needed. The property is right next to the gorgeous Macay Gardnes State Park, and there are really many places nearby to visit. We were there for about a week and only scratched the surface.
We booked this property for a long weekend and it was a perfect fit for our family. Located next to a beautiful state park, we enjoyed bike trails as well as gardens. We had the use of a great big fire pit & the BBQ grill. Owner Diane welcomed us personally. Use of 2 of 3 homes on the property made it possible for us to attend graduation ceremonies without the hassle and confinement of hotel rooms. The kitchen has lots of dishes, plenty of pots & pans, a coffee maker and microwave. Groceries and speciality shops were nearby. If you need to be in Tallahassee, this is a gem.
We had a beautiful Thanksgiving at the cottage. The fire pit was mesmerizing, the fruit trees fragrant and plentiful and the cottage was classic and homey. We were a large group and were perfectly comfortable despite having to share one bathroom between the 8 of us. Old world charm and nature trails abound. The wildlife that roamed through the 3 acre property was also a treat!
