Overview

About the property

Cottage, 4 Bedrooms + Sunroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 7)

Old country southern charm is the feel of this delightful cottage that dates back to the early 1900s. This cottage called 'Magnolia' is tastefully decorated with wonderful antiques and period furniture that give it a casual country feel. Along with its sister cottage 'Maple' (vrbo #162157), and now the newest addition 'Mulberry', this cozy guest cottage, surrounded by forest, is on the north side of Tallahassee on the beautifully Canopied Meridian Rd adjacent to Alfred B MaClay State Park and Lake Overstreet Trails. Across the street is Forest Meadows Athletic centre with Tennis courts and swimming pool (open summers). Enjoy the melody of birds, crickets and cicadas throughout the day and see the deer in the morning and evening from the front and back porches furnished with comfortable wicker couch and chairs.

Tallahassee is the State Capital of Florida and has the downtown Capital Buildings just 7 miles away, as well as governor's's mansion, museums, and Imax theatres. Shopping and airport close by. Antique shopping is available in the quaint towns of Havana, Monticello, and Quincy(20-30 mile drive).

Check out the beautiful southern plantations on the way to Thomasville, Georgia only 30 miles away. Just 20 miles to Wakulla Springs State Park and 60 miles from the beautiful beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. Lake Jackson is just 3 miles away.

About Diane Roorda

The owner has an interesting story in that she was born in the Netherlands, grew up in Canada and has lived in Tallahassee for the last 35 years where her children grew up. The Dutch background spells the importance of cleanliness; the Canadian background spells the gift of hospitality; and the south spells relaxed and casual. So the 3 C's: cleanliness, comfortable and cozy best describes what you will find in each of the 3 M's: Mulberry, Magnolia and Maple cottages. The owner has made lots of good memories on this 3 acre property. We stay here to celebrate various holidays with our 10 grandchildren. The space outside has room for outdoor games and cookouts and the cottages are comfortable and cozy

Why Diane Roorda chose Tallahassee

This property provides a place for me to enjoy my gardening hobby. I have planted many flowers, shrubs, fruit trees so that there is something blooming and something to eat year round. During the winter the oranges are delicious and a great way to start the morning. In addition there are lemons, kumquats, figs, loquats, persimmons and even some blackberries and mulberries growing.

The camellias are growing and will start flowering in December so there is plenty to see and enjoy.

What makes this cottage unique

The property is located next to a state park that offers 900+ acres of woods and trails to walk. The wildlife is fun to watch and the house has the feel of stepping back into another century

Stayed here with my family for a weekend. It was a great location next to the parks and we enjoyed the large grassy area the house is located upon. Wifi was fast and strong, The owner was great to work with and answered all our questions. Beds were comfortable .

Would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Owner's Response: So glad you found this cottage. The 'Horse Trials' bring lots of people to Tallahassee in March and this is as close as you can stay. Spring is beautiful as well with the flowers in full bloom. Thank you for your kind remarks

Old Florida Charm

  • 5 of 5

We booked this property for a long weekend and it was a perfect fit for our family. Located next to a beautiful state park, we enjoyed bike trails as well as gardens. We had the use of a great big fire pit & the BBQ grill. Owner Diane welcomed us personally. Use of 2 of 3 homes on the property made it possible for us to attend graduation ceremonies without the hassle and confinement of hotel rooms. The kitchen has lots of dishes, plenty of pots & pans, a coffee maker and microwave. Groceries and speciality shops were nearby. If you need to be in Tallahassee, this is a gem.

Beautiful, spacious retreat in the middle of nature!

  • 5 of 5

We had a beautiful Thanksgiving at the cottage. The fire pit was mesmerizing, the fruit trees fragrant and plentiful and the cottage was classic and homey. We were a large group and were perfectly comfortable despite having to share one bathroom between the 8 of us. Old world charm and nature trails abound. The wildlife that roamed through the 3 acre property was also a treat!

Owner's Response: So glad you took advantage of being close to miles and miles of hiking trails. With the weather getting cooler it is a treat to sit next to the fire and enjoy some hot chocolate or roast hotdogs or marshmallows and make smores. Great you had a good time!

House lovely; owner great!

  • 5 of 5

This house truly embodies "Southern Charm" & was a lovely place for our family to make home base during our daughter's wedding week-end, but would be perfect for any type of stay in Tallahassee. The three-acre property is in a lovely, pastoral setting, but is close enough to downtown & other attractions so as to make it convenient for anything one would want to do around Tallahassee. The price was great, especially considering that we could use the upstairs sun porch for the baby's pak-n-play, which effectively gave us a 5th "bedroom," plus the house has 2 master-size bedrooms so that the grandparents could stay also & help watch the kids. The living room is roomy, as is the kitchen, & we loved staying in a home reminiscent of early 1900's & sharing meals together in the house. Initially, my only hesitation was that the house has one bathroom, but we simply coordinated use of the (large) bath, & with the spaciousness of the rest of the house, it worked well. We booked the other two adorable houses on the 3-acre property, so that each family in our extended family had a totally private place to stay separated by some distance that was just right for being able to be together. In the mornings while the adults were involved in wedding activities, the cousins gathered at the roomy house to play, which was wonderful since they don't live in the same state. Diane is a gracious, lovely person to work with, and her properties gave us the sort of "home" that was a major contributor in making for a special time that we will remember forever. Highly, highly recommend!

A wonderful place!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful tim in Tallahassee. The house was great. Spacious, comfortable, charmingly decorated an dI just love loved the kitchen. The front yard was wonderful. We played volley ball, football, badminton, corn hole!!! It was a perfect place for my family.

The place was clean, met with the owner...who was lovely.

I would highly recommend this lovely home should your travels find you in Tallahassee. A great place for a family reunion as multiple homes are on the property.
