Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Honor

Romantic 1BR 1BA Beach Cottage + Guest house with 1/2 bath

Catch the sunrise to start your day and the sunset late in the evening from multiple furnished decks overlooking Big Platte Lake - dazzling water views from the living room, dining room, and kitchen.

Our private waterfront is bathed by crystal clear water. It is an ideal water-playground for children because of an extensive shallow area (300 feet); perfect for frolicking, wading, Frisbee, and floating, with deeper water farther out for swimming, kayaking, jet-skiing, water-skiing, fishing, and canoeing. A Soft, mint-leaf lawn for volleyball or other barefoot adventures waits at the shoreline, and a flower-garden with a dizzying assortment of fragrant lilies separates the cottage from the guest house.

Our 500-foot driveway is lined with magnificent birch, maple and oak trees, lending a feeling of quiet seclusion to the property. The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore can be reached in less than five minutes by foot - we are just outside the edge of the park

Some of the most beautiful beaches on Lake Michigan are just a five minute drive (ten minute bike ride) from the house. Alternatively, you could board our canoe or kayaks on our private waterfront, wind your way down the Platte River, and emerge two glorious hours later in the splendor of Lake Michigan.

Both the cottage and guest house were custom built in the mid-1990’s. The design concept was to allow light reflecting off of the lake to fill the structures with natural light. Open floor plans, skylights and huge windows make artificial lighting completely unnecessary during daylight hours. On clear, moon-lit nights, the glitter from Platte Lake throws an ethereal blue light throughout the cottage. The cottage living room, dining area, and kitchen are one open area, making it possible for big families to spread out while still inhabiting the same space. The guest house interior is also one open space with a sleeping area, a sitting area, and a TV-nook.

Beautifully furnished, Grand Piano, Wireless High-speed Internet, Cordless Phone, Cable TV (36 inch Flat-Screen + DVD in Cottage, 40 inch LCD TV + VCR in Guest House), Stereo, CD Player, Boom box, , DVD Collection, Full Kitchen, Dishwasher, Microwave, Refrigerator, Freezer, Ice Maker, KitchenAid Toaster, Gas Range, KitchenAid Mixer, Cuisinart Food Processor, Cuisinart Waffle Iron, 12 attractive place settings, Calphalon cookware, culinary gadgets of all kinds, 100% Egyptian Cotton Linens provided, Portable Crib, High Chair, baby bath, baby swing, baby buggy, Washer, Dryer, Charcoal Grill (BBQ), Fine Patio Furniture, Waterfront Fire pit, Bicycles (2), Water Floats (2), Boat Mooring, 2 brand new Perception kayaks, 17-foot Grumman canoe, paddles, life vests, Private Paved Parking area accommodates several cars, boats, trailers, and campers, 2-car garage, No Smoking.

Dreamy. Perfection. Paradise.

  • 5 of 5

Everything about our stay at this beautiful cottage on Big Platte Lake was pure perfection. My husband and I along with our son, his girlfriend, our daughter, her husband and their eight month old son were so pleased beyond words. The cottage is the perfect size, updated, clean and, most of all, homey! We loved the shallow clear water of Big Platte lake, the kayaks, the deck, the breeze, the canoe, the neighbors....I could go on and on. Beds were so comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed! The Honor Family market had a great selection for our needs...the meat was especially good and fresh along with the baked goods. We also went to the Trading Post and the Riverside Canoe stores just to check them out and pick up a few items and they are literally right around the corner.

We spent our first evening in Frankfurt where we had pizza and watched the beautiful sunset. We hiked the dunes, visited Peterson beach, Point Betsie lighthouse, Glen Arbor and Leland. Most of all, we relaxed and enjoyed each other's company.

The weather was great all week with just one rainy evening and one rainy morning...no humidity and no bugs:)

The owners were attentive and kind and we can't thank them enough for making this beautiful space available for others to enjoy. Although we didn't actually meet the owners, I feel like we have made new friends. Rent this cottage before any other...you won't regret it.

Kind regards with great appreciation,

Mrs. Heidi Brown and family

Little slice of heaven on earth

  • 5 of 5

Where do I start? The location of the cottage and guest house is fantastic. One actually walks from the back porch to the beautiful sandy bottom lake. What could be more enjoyable then waking up to the view of the lake and a cup of coffee in the morning? The two kayaks provided were so much fun. Our grandson who is three enjoyed going for a ride on our laps as well. My husband, son-in-law and grandson enjoyed their fishing adventure in the canoe.

Stephen and his wife have provided everything that you might need to enjoy your stay. When they say the kitchen is stocked and ready to use they mean it. We utilized the kitchen and grill provided to us. If you want to make s'mores over the fire pit all you need to bring are the ingrediants to do so.

The bathrooms are very nice, great shower and water pressure. My husband is 6'2" and for once in a shower he did not have to bend down for the shower head.

Our three year old grandson was so excited to see the pedal car in the garage for his use, plus the story books and toys to play with. There was actually a nice stroller we could of used if needed too.

As we were sitting on the Adirondack chairs looking at the lake not wanting to leave quite yet and dreading the ride home we heard a familiar cry overhead. Looking up we saw a bald eagle soaring overhead. That made our trip complete.

We hope to come back and stay again. The calendar fills up quickly for this property so we need to choose dates soon.

Thank you for the great stay.

Wonderful Anniversary experience

  • 5 of 5

We could not have been more pleased with our choice. From the moment we pulled onto the property, we knew that this would be a wonderful and relaxing experience. My wife and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary with a week long stay.

The cottage and guest house are very well maintained with nice touches throughout.

It was also a first rate starting point for exploratory travels from Frankfort to Northport (and many points in between) as well as must see destinations such as Pierce Stocking Drive. We were fortunate to have visited the magnificent Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore 2 days before the government shutdown forced its closure.

For those who enjoy a nice hike, the payoff at the end of the Old Indian Trail is not to be missed!

The many wonderful little lakeside towns with their unique gift shops and array of dining options kept us afield for a good portion of our week here, but it was always nice to come back and sit down by the lake to watch a sunset or just gaze at the stars that you don't ever get to see, living in Chicago.

Getting back to those "nice touches" though.

I was quite surprised to see how much had been thought of here on behalf of the traveler who arrives not really knowing what to expect. The large kitchen area is surprisingly well equipped with most everything you'll need to create meals, and even included a French press coffee maker in addition to the regular drip machine. Heck, it even included the coffee, cream and sugar!

Bedroom furnishings were quality and the beds (1 in main house and 1 in guest house) were quite comfortable.

Outside, a Weber grill, charcoal briquettes and lighter fluid were at our disposal, along with an array of watercraft and life vests and even "floaties" for little kids. Firewood was provided when it was time to get a fire going in the ring for S'mores.

In all, we found this to be a wonderful little cottage with plenty of room and it was clean, comfortable and very well maintained.

Big Platte lake, lapping against the shore in your front yard, makes a tempting case for staying home with a good book, but the area is rich with activities you won't want to miss.

Great time!

The view!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at this little cottage. It was clean and nicely decorated, which always makes you feel at home. My husband and I, along with our 2 sons (3 and 5) stayed in the main house, while my parents were comfortable in the guest house.

This lake is so beautiful--like a giant pool, but almost as nice as the view, was hearing the lake lap up against the shore at night!

Close to everything!

Beach Cottage on Platte Lake

  • 5 of 5

The property and location on Platte Lake were fantastic. The cottage was in great condition, and the owners have done a great job of placing quality items in the cottage for your use. The canoe and kayaks were of great use for the family and we enjoyed a few nights of roasting marshmallows by the lakeshore. I would highly recommend this property! Lake was beautiful - cant wait to come back!

Great for families!

  • 5 of 5

We vacationed at Watching the Water in July 2012 as a group of 6 adults and a 1 year old. We had a wonderful time exploring the areas -- the cottage was close to a lot of cute areas and close to the dunes! We wish we had spent more time than we did at the cottage itself, because its location was so relaxing and beautiful. The waterfront was perfect for a 1-year-old, as it stays very shallow for a long distance. We ate dinner at the lakeside table in the evenings, watching the sun set. We played family games at the giant dining room table inside after it got dark. Having an additional guest house on the property was especially nice with a small child. The baby monitor's signal reached all the way to the main cottage, so we could lock up the guest house, bring the monitor to the cottage, and enjoy some adult family time without disturbing the baby. The owners have fully stocked the cottage with children's toys, DVDs, books, water toys, bicycles, linens, kitchen gadgets. The one thing I would say is that some of the kitchen gadgets no longer worked (food processor, for example), but most people probably wouldn't use the gadgets we were trying to use (unless you are big time foodies like we are). The only other complaint that one of the members of our group had was a lack of additional storage for clothes other than the storage in the bedroom. However, we shared the storage space, and some of us just kept our things in a suitcase, which was fine. We would highly recommend this cottage to other travelers. It was beautiful, cozy, located in a great spot, relaxing, and well-equipped. The owners are very helpful, responsive, and kind.

Owner's Response: The Cuisinart Food Processor at the cottage is an older model and it is possible that the guest was not aware of how to properly operate it. At any rate, despite its somewhat antique appearance it is still perfectly functional. Non-functional gadgets in our kitchen are quickly replaced.

Have fun with our water toys! We have two beautiful Perception kayaks. We also have several inflatable rafts and a 17-foot Grumman canoe, along with paddles and life vests! After a day of play, have a cookout on the lower deck--you can barbecue while watching the sunset. Then build a fire in our waterfront fire pit, make some s'mores, watch the stars, and listen to the water lapping along the shoreline.
