Nice house but needs some attention

My family just returned from a week staying at this home. It was a large, open space with good size bedrooms and bathrooms. It was nice to have a 4 bedroom 4 bath house with a pool and hot tub and fairly close to the beach. There was more than adequate space for all of us. The owner let us get into the house early so that was nice. The kitchen has been remodeled and is great for cooking in. There's a nice large deck overlooking the pool. There are some things that were disappointing. When we pulled up to the house, we saw it was for sale. The yard has not been kept up - especially in the back. The pool deck around the pool is in bad need of being power washed, it was black with dirt - same with the house deck, needs to be cleaned. The screen around the pool has multiple holes - there is a branch coming through one area. The wood deck to the canal is moldy. The pool has tile missing and that area is moldy. There is also mold in other locations on the pool and hot tub. All of the dining room chairs are broken/wobbly. There is a broken light on the dock. There is a broken statue in the corner by the pool. Who knows why that is still there. The pool could use a good scrubbing. The Tiki bar is unusable - there is so much overgrowth in the yard and mold that you don't want to use it. All of the pool toys/floats were black with dirt. The master bedroom window and the window by the dining room do not close - the crank does not work to close it. One of the blind slats in the master bedroom had been taped up and when we opened the blinds, it fell off. The master toilet runs and takes 15 minutes to fill. Not sure if the owner hasn't been there in a very long time or because it's for sale there is no interest to keep it up or put money into it or if others haven't let her know. I am just giving an honest assessment. It wasn't horrible, but just want future renters to know about some of these things. It's a great house with lots of space but needs some attention. We would go back especially if the pool area and some of these other things were attended to.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your information. I am aware that there needs to be some work done. I was waiting for a time when renters were not there so as not to disturb them. The screen was supposed to be fixed. Not sure why that was not done but I will be looking into it. I now have a few weeks without renters so will be having my maintenance person work on fixing the things that need fixed and pressure washing the pool area. Again, thank you for your feed back. Since I do not often visit the house it is important for me to hear from renters such as yourself. Kim

Exactly what we expected and needed

The house is huge. The master bedroom bed is comfortable. The kitchen/house is quite stocked. The kids beds are a bit run down etc. so if you’re expecting the Ritz Carlton you’ll be disappointed, but if you’re expecting a well loved huge beach house that you can move right into, it’s right on.

RENTERS BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I recently rented this home and was extremely disappointed. We arrived a little early and dropped off some luggage so we could go to the store for groceries. We spoke with cleaning crew who were still finishing up the house. I had a several minutes to talk with the crew who proceeded to bash the property owner saying she was cheap and very hard to work for. Asked owner for an additional $20 to return an overload of recycling and she refused to pay extra. She hasn’t made any updates to the furniture or the appliances. She refuses to purchase a second set of linens for each of the beds; therefore, washing the linens on time is almost impossible. To be completely honest, we were there with 6 young men who were on their Spring Break and were very excited to be in Florida for the week. Let me say each boy either has a scholarship for academics or their athletic ability to elite schools throughout the country or are outstanding citizens. I will not say that they behaved as though they were at the White House, but we did not intentionally break, destroy or damage anything in the home. Upon renting the home I purchased the $1,500 insurance policy just in case “accidents” happened. The gentleman taking care of the pool came early Wednesday morning and witnessed the house being, well “lived in”. He called the property owner to advise of the mess and to come investigate. The property owner showed up at 9:00am, came in the house without announcing herself and proceeded to enter each bedroom, without knocking, while there were sleeping renters. She was yelling and screaming saying we were pigs, bad parents, and demanded we clean the mess giving us one hour. I don’t know about you, but when on vacation a perfectly clean home is not my priority. With that being said, there was laundry, garbage and items out of place. NOTHING BROKEN! She has no right to barge in and look in rooms invading privacy!! When we checked out, we stripped the beds of their linens and placed them in front of the small, old, rusty, mildew smelling washer as instructed. Since the washing machine is small, it can only hold a very small load at a time which is the SOLE reason it took so long to wash everything. If you are a rental home with four bedrooms and five beds, you NEED a large washer to make sure all the linens are clean. SOOO obviously the cleaning crew is NOT washing everything because there isn’t enough time to wash it all within the FOUR hours you give your crew to clean the EN

Owner's Response: Interesting stance. First, I allowed her to drop her luggage early. Check in is not until 4.00 and as I had someone checking out that day I told her it would not be available early. I do have 2 sets of sheets and 4 sets of towels for each room. Don't know where she came up with this info except that she is mad that I filed a damage report and rated her as a one star--not given the option for 0 as a renter. They left the house a mess. It normally takes 6-8 hrs to clean after a normal renter. It took my cleaners 19 hrs to clean after these people. I have had reports from the neighbors about how terriable they were. They lost 1/2 of my grill grate and as I could not find a replacement I had to replace the entire grill. One of my outdoor chairs is missing so have had to buy a new set of matching chairs. They took 2 of the keys with them so will have to rekey the house and they put a hole in the kitchen wall. I have NEVER had someone so disrespectable, not only of my house but of the renters coming behind them as it was 5 before the house was clean and then it took a couple of days for me to replace the keys, chairs, and grill. UNBELIEAVABLE. I have pictures to prove my side of this story.

Family Reunion

Overall a very good place to stay. The location is located within walking distance to the beach and not far from the Siesta Key restaurants and bars.

Space at the house is excellent and is more that capable of having 20 people over for dinner(s) along with allowing some privacy when needed. Grill and Kitchen function well as does the TV and WIFI. We enjoyed the pool and did some fishing off the back pier (caught and released 2 catfish), ok we didn't try very hard. Overall a very good vacation spot.

Family Fun

The best. We had a wonderful time. Our only complaint is we couldn't stay longer. Plenty of room, game room was a plus. Everything was clean and well managed. Pool was the best. We saw manatees from the deck. We were there for the fourth and walked to the beach and we weren't disappointed. It's a short walk to the beach. We plan to make this an annual family trip! Thanks!

Not as advertised and not the quality or value I expected

I think this property was made to sound much nicer than it really is through the owners VRBO listing. Much of the property is very dated, and some of it is in poor condition. The landscaping is falling apart and over grown, bricks were missing from the walkway up to the front door, for a tripping hazard. The "tiki bar" so prominently advertised was overgrown with weeds, moldy and had no electricity. The canal deck had some rotten boards that looked like you could put a foot through. Both lights on the canal pier were not working. In fact, many of the lights in the house were burned out. The deck and stairs overlooking the pool were quite old, with nails protuding, and you really could not walk on it barefoot for fear of a splinter. The fourth bedroom is actually in the basement of the home, and is rather dingy and musty and again not up to date. Most of the curtains and louvers in the place were missing slats as well, The kitchen was nice, and looked to have been redone, but that looked to be the only renovated part of the home. Much of the furnishing though were old and tired and in disrepair including a busted bumper pool poker table right in the living room. The master bath had a shower head that was not working well. the location is nice, it is a ten minute walk to the beach, but easily a twenty minute walk to town. I liked that it was on the canal, that was nice. Overall though, I felt the value was not there. I am not a prima donna or a picky guy, but for the money we spent, I expect a place to be in good to great condition. The pool was nice, but again the pool lights would not work and the pool deck was very dark at night. Also, right next door is new construction, that woke me up on the first morning to loud pounding. They got quieter after that day thankfully. Also, this place has a rundown home next to it that was playing loud "techno" music all day with a thump thump base easily heard in our pool area. Overall, this property is not as advertised. I would not stay there again for any reason. Siesta Key, though, is great and I highly recommend the area.

Owner's Response: Was very surprised by this review as they sent me an email saying how much they enjoyed the house. As to being out of date. The entire house was painted and all floors were replaced and all furniture was replaced when we remodeled the kitchen. As to the lighting. I checked the house after reading this review and there was one light out in the house. I keep extra lightbulbs in the pantry so they could have simply replaced it. There are lights above the deck as well as lights under the deck around the pool. You do have to turn them on. The pool does not, and never has had lights as I find it a hazard as there have been instances of a electrical leak causing electrocution. As for the construction next door, they did complain to me about this but then said it was only a problem on the first day. The building of houses in the neighborhood is beyond my control. Finally, these guests left the house in the worst shape I have ever seen. It caused me extra in cleaning as someone had peed on the quilt and sheets and then they had put them in the closet--I do have a washer/dryer. Someone had also vomited in the bathroom and not cleaned up afterwards. Not to worried about them not renting again as I would not rent to them.
