Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Greenport

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Seaside Greenport Village Historic

District, on Long Island’s North Fork, New York.

“Rose Cottage” is within the Greenport Village Historic District with water views of Sterling Harbour’s busy mooring field of classic to modern sailboats, and power. Fish as close as the Village dingy dock, two doors away: rent a boat, or slip, or launch your own, within a local clam’s throw. Bathe in and eat from some of Long Island’s (or the world’s) most pristine water quality maritime environments.

Greenport Village is the gem of Long Island’s few active seaside villages: off the beaten path yet easily accessible from New York City by the LIRR, Hampton Jitney or car, or from Boston by car or Amtrak and the New London-Orient Ferry.

Rose Cottage is an easy stroll from the Village Center and its restaurants, cafes, boutiques, gourmet shops, many art galleries and antique shops, banks (ATMs), bookstore, hardware and marine supplies, farm stand and supermarket.

Greenport Eating is a pleasure from picnics at the many beaches, or harbour front Mitchell Park, with its Carousel and live entertainment, to waterfront clam bars, diner, cheese emporium, and tea shop, and of course more formal fine dining with top chefs and local food.

Day Trips might include the quaint Orient Village, Sag Harbour, Orient Ferry roundtrip, the ‘Peconic Star’ to Block Island, Nature Conservancy's Mashomeck Preserves, Audobon Society’s birding and Town’s trails and woods, walk on the Shelter Island Ferry and stroll among the gingerbread houses and restaurants of the ‘Heights’.

Greenport village is in the heart of the award winning North Shore Wine Country, with tasting rooms and live entertainment.

Green Farm Stands all the time and Saturday morning tag sales and flea markets.

All surrounded by the sea.

“Rose Cottage” is beautifully furnished and styled by its owner, the former decorating editor of a national magazine, with an open floor plan, spacious rooms, gourmet kitchen: very light, and very airy.

A two story Cape, two bedrooms (one queen, one double) and full bath upstairs, main floor master bedroom/front parlor with queen sofa couch and full bath (sleeps 4) kitchen dining room with half bath, large sun filled living room, couch sized reading bay window, and fireplace for cozy fall and winter evenings, “Rose Cottage” is surrounded by beautiful gardens, ideal for outdoor entertainment, fountains, mini ponds, and a pergola.

Other amenities include washer/dryer, dishwasher, central air and heat, fireplace, cable TVs, internet access, personal chef available for shopping, cooking, small dinner parties, lunches, picnics.

We have stayed in this beautiful cottage twice. It is simply lovely, and is so convenient to everything you need in Greenport. Within walking distance of water, restaurants and shopping. We will be back!!

As the Fall arrives here in CO and winter is around the corner, we start to dream of summer and that has meant the Rose Cottage for the last 3 years. We so enjoy the location, the gardens, the beautiful decor. We feel so blessed to be able to return to such a comfortable home and know how responsive and kind the owners are, from attending to an internet snafu within minutes to having the best advise on what's happening in town and the wines to try. Walking to town, biking to the beach, and sitting in the shade to read, this is this perfect summer day. We're looking forward to summer 2016 already!

Rose Cottage - a lived in experience

  • 1 of 5

I've stayed at a number of houses through VRBO, but never have I stayed in someone's primary home. The owners moved out for the week, making room in closets, but leaving food in the refrigerator and freezer. It was also not thoroughly cleaned, as we were greeted by a bucket of dirty water and a sponge in the kitchen (perhaps they were hoping we would take the initiative?).

To add to the situation, the owner "stopped by" three times to water her plants, check the mail and place the garden furniture back to where she wanted it.

Overall it was an unnerving experience to be in a guest in a stranger's home. There was too much clutter. The furniture was very uncomfortable. The gourmet kitchen is disorganized and dated (the dishes came out cleaner when we washed by hand). The garden is overgrown and buggy, not the tranquil zen spot that is depicted in the pictures and not inhabitable in the evenings. In general, the pictures were clearly from a few years ago and not current.

Finally, a member of our party is 82. She stayed on the ground floor, however the steps leading into the cottage are very high and were a challenge for her. People with disabilities should be aware of this.

What a special place. Description and pictures are truly accurate. Lovely peaceful cottage, well maintained and clean. Great walking location. Attentive and helpful owners, from the very first phone call with them I knew this would be a memorable vacation! I hope to be back one day!

Enchanting Cottage

  • 3 of 5

We stayed for Columbus Day Weekend for our annual girls weekend. We loved this cottage!! It was enchanting and full of character and charm. Beautifully decorated and very cozy. We loved meeting Christine. She is very attentive, interesting and accommodating. Both yard and home are a bit cluttered but still so enchanting and interesting. It felt like home. Beds were comfortable and the sheets and linens nice and pressed. Cottage is one block from the marina and 2 blocks from the historic shopping district which includes unique shops, bakery, restaurants, bars and more.

Perfect Weekend at the Cottage

  • 5 of 5

I cannot recommend this house enough! It was so simple to book and the owner went out of his way to make recommendations about the town. The house is absolutely darling with very comfortable beds! It's just a few minutes to walk in to town, but still on a secluded residential street - perfect location. Thanks so much!
