Hear the birds and the river flow while you sip coffee on the porch in the morning. The deer drink from the river, the otters play, and sometimes you even see manatees.
We brought three of our grandchildren for their spring break and had a great time. The house is very spacious. It is obvious that it was a full time residence at some point. With four bedrooms, everyone had their own space. The beds were very comfortable with the possible exception of the one which appeared to be older than the rest. The kitchen had plenty of counter space and lots of dishes, etc. The pans could use replacement, but I know it is hard to keep good pans in a rental...people do insist on using metal utensils on non-stick wear. I would also suggest some glassware (plastic for durability) and some spoons, both of which were in short supply. If it wasn't for these few things, I would have rated it a five.
The river was beautiful with lots of wildlife. We saw egrets, wood stork, manatees, otters, lots of turtles, a water snake and heard lots of owls, hawks, and peepers. We could put in our kayaks and tubes at the house and float down the river to the park at the juncture of the Ichetucknee River and the Santa Fe. There are numerous state parks in the area for hiking, swimming and biking. One day we rented bikes at O'leno State Park and peddled to the River Rise Preserve and back (over 12 miles). We also swam in the headwaters of the Ichetucknee and my husband and grandson launched the kayaks at the headwater launch and paddled back to the rental. The neighborhood abounds with dirt roads, great for safe biking. High Springs about a 20 to 30 drive away has some interesting restaurants as well as several outfitters. We rented a stand-up paddle board to try and everyone found it great fun.
All in all, it was a great vacation. Thank you Janet & Jim for sharing your vacation home with us. We plan to come back someday.
The house was very large & roomy plenty room for a large group.really enjoyed the large screen in porch that jus looks right over the river you are really right on the river. The kayaking was awesome . Would love to come back again.
Since my husband and I love the Ichetucknee, we planned a reunion trip with friends of ours who also kayak and canoe. The house was spacious and comfortable enough for 8 adults. Everyone could paddle whenever they wanted. We did lots of group floats, solo. Sometimes we paddled all the way up, sometimes we headed down and got picked up on the Santa Fe. Enjoyed a campfire one night after cooking chili. Went out for barbeque one night. It was a great time to catch up and everyone enjoyed so much, we actually already booked for next year.
The house was exactly as advertised, very good value for the price. It was comfortable and homey. The owners were helpful and attentive to our questions before hand and during. All and all, a great find.
We had a great time enjoying the river and the wild life. We caught lots of fish in the river including a 5 1/2 lb catfish one night. Tubing and canoeing the river was great. The house was big enough for our large family and well maintained and clean. Its not handicap accessible with the long stair way as the only entry to the house since its on stilts. That was not a problem for us and the kids enjoyed the cement floor of the carport beneath the house to play. Anyone who wants to get away from it all in a remote setting, this is the place. Its not a 5 star resort, but had all we needed to have a good time together. Thanks for a great time.
This was our second stay in Jim & Janet's lovely waterfront home! The house is perfect and very comfortable! We had a large family gathering again this year and there was plenty of room for everyone! The river is just spectacular and there was a lot of activity on the river due to the weather!!
Thank you Jim & Janet for allowing us to spend time in your home...

I was looking for a place for complete peace, and relaxation. I had been getting cancer treatments for about three years and wanted to spend a week, where I could completely chill out. The house is right on the crystal clear river and very peaceful for me.
The owners were very nice, we had everything we need. I would love to return.
