Some old friends from college and I were looking for a great place away from the city for New Year's Eve and this was perfect. Plenty of rooms for a large group and tons of space for everyone.
We cooked for ourselves for our two day stay and the kitchen came with everything we needed. There was also plenty of outdoor space to enjoy. The owners were a pleasure to deal with in the process of securing the house and letting us know information about the house itself and the area around it.
The only word of advice I have is to get there early to get the heat going if you have a large group. The house is huge so it takes some time to warm up the upstairs area (plus, it gives you an excuse to start your vacation early!).
I, and my group, could not have been happier with the experience.
We had a large group of 25 people. The house was not new nor fancy, but it was cozy & comfortable, and it was enough to accommodate all of us. Everything was exactly correct as it is described. There were several rooms that are relatively more private than other rooms. I would definitely go back for next retreat.
This was an ideal place for our family get-together of 27 people...17 guys, 10 gals, ages 6 mo. to 83 yrs. We were able to enjoy the entire time without even leaving the property! The yard offered plenty of space to set up our bocce and croquet games and put up a couple of tents in another area. The spacious deck gave us room for visiting and eating in a sunny area. Campfire s'mores and singing were the evening entertainment ,without concern that we were bothering the neighbors.
We did, of course create a lot of laundry and trash and had to guess what to do with them, so another time we'd ask in advance.
All in all, we really did feel as though we'd all "come home".
We stayed at this charming house last Memorial Day weekend and we hope to stay there again this summer. We had a large crowd of all ages varying from 12 years olds up to 24 year olds and their parents. The house was so large that people could come and go without disturbing others. We spent a lot of time on the deck and the kids spent a lot of time playing football on the property. The house was spotlessly clean when we arrived. We had several musicians who were participating in the East Durham Music Festival so the location was perfect. The house is old, but is well kept and its size and charm makes it a great vacation property.
Because of the size of our family, we have been renting this place at Thanksgiving for a number of years. We can comfortably accommodate almost 20 people in this simple and charming, though not luxurious, farmhouse. There are two parlors side by side on the first floor with lots of room for one big group or several small ones for game-playing, tv watching, reading, chatting, even skits. The no-frills kitchen is open to a large dining area where we seated 14 at table this year. Adjacent is a sunroom that can be used for serving or for additional dining or as a play area. Some of the upstairs bedrooms are huge with two full or queen beds, and others are just large enough for two twins or a full or queen. One downstairs bedroom has a full bed and a twin. Linens are provided. There is a ping pong table in an upstairs rec room. Three bathrooms are located throughout the house wherever there are sleeping quarters. The water pressure varies from bathroom to bathroom. The heating system is good (in November), though in the larger bedrooms there are space heaters as well. The floors are all wide board wood, some recently refinished. The yard is sizable, and there is a large field with a hill across the road. Behind the farmhouse is a running stream that we find ideal for rubber duck races. Bring your cellphone chargers, because the signal is limited to certain areas, and the phones work hard to find it. If you are looking for a luxurious resort, this is not it; it is a true country farmhouse that is inviting and comfortable. Over the years we have noticed a number of improvements to the property that have enhanced our stays there.
Kathy, wanted let you know we enjoyed our stay at the "farmhouse" what a comfortable place it is. Thanks so much.
