This canal house on the Prinsengracht (100 square meters more than 1,000 square feed) is completely renovated. We bought the apartment six years ago and everything is new. As our apartment is located at a corner, there are 7 big windows overlooking the cannels which makes the apartment unique!
The apartment contains:
- Spacious master bedroom including bathroom (with bath, shower and toilet)
- Bedroom with two single beds that can be put next to each other including bathroom (with shower)
- Open kitchen
- Spacious living room including high def. TV
- Separate toilet
- New beds and furniture
- Wireless unlimited internet
- New modern kitchen with everything you need including American fridge
- Wooden floors
- Double glazed windows (although you you don't need it because it's a quit area)
- Washing machine / dryer
- Towels, sheets, dishes etc.
- Nespresso coffee machine
Our apartment is in the centre of Amsterdam on the South part of the canals near the 'Spiegelgracht' where all the art galleries are.
It is located 2 minutes from the 'Leidseplein';
The 'Leidseplein is very crowded both throughout the day and night. When the sun is shining, the terraces quickly become filled. Street performers entertain the public, with acrobatic acts and music. At night the crowd changes: Amsterdammers go out here to celebrate, and to visit the theatres, cinemas and clubs. It is also possible to rent bikes at the Leidseplein, which you can store in our bicycle room.
On February 1, 1999, the Dutch government decided to qualify the inner city, the canals of Amsterdam, as a monument, a protected inner city view. The girdle of canals (ranging from the Singel Canal up to the Prinsengracht Canal) is a historically important part of this region, and it is one of the city's most attractive sights.
The girdle of canals starts at River Amstel and ends at Brouwersgracht. One third of the houses along the canals (grachtenhuizen) were built before 1850. During the 17th Century the city extended its boundaries, and canals were shaped in a girdle around the oldest part of Amsterdam to accommodate wealthy tradesmen and burghers. First the Singel Canal was dug out, then the Herengracht, Keizersgracht and, last of all, Prinsengracht.

Eefje is an interior decorator working in the 'Oud Zuid' area of Amsterdam. I am an entrepreneur, with a consulting background at McKinsey & Company. We both are fond of Amsterdam, but still like to travel to all parts of the world. We both are enthusiastic sport players (field hockey, tennis, running and golf). Our children (Floris, 5 years and Lily and Isabella, both 3 years) are our newest hobby together with our silver Labrador dog Muis (Mouse in Dutch).
Cazijn purchased this apartment in 2008
We bought the apartment because it is located at the best spot of Amsterdam
The amazing view, the great location in between all major touristic attractions
The owners are very kind and helpful and we're available you phone or email for assistance. The area is close to many main things (9 streets, dam Square, etx), is quaint and quiet. There are numerous shops within a blocks radius to get food to bring home or eat out. The apartment has two nice size bedrooms with thick curtains that keep light out nicely. There is 1 full en suite bathroom and a second toilet and sink in the small room bedroom with a toilet in the hall. The set up is quite nice. There is also a fireplace. I highly recommend this apartment!
We had a lovely welcome from Effi who told us all we needed to use the apartment and gave us some restaurant ideas.
The apartment is in an excellent position on the Prisengraght, and sitting watching the world go by on the canal is everything you would want from a stay in Amsterdam. Situated on the 2nd floor it is peaceful, even though there is a restaurant on the ground floor. Located close to the museums and excellent restaurants.
The apartment is comfortable and although only two of us it would have been equally comfortable for 2 couples. The kitchen was well equipped and we would have cooked if staying longer.
The bed was very comfortable and showers excellent. Although a cold weekend, we were warm as toast on return from sightseeing.
The stairs, as you should expect in an Amsterdam townhouse, are steep, but even my husband and his 'knees' managed with suitcase!
We had a lovely holiday and look forward to having a return visit.
Thank you Effi and Cazijn
We were delighted when we walked in and saw the spacious living area and kitchen with abundant daylight and canal views. The apartment is a corner building so there is daylight and view on two sides, a rarity in Amsterdam! There are two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a powder room. We were only two, so didnt need the second bedroom, but it was nice for my wife and I to have separate bathrooms. We used the second bedroom as a dressing room. The location is perfect. A 10-minute walk south is the Museum Quarter, with the Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk and Van Gogh all there. If you are a music lover, you should see a concert at the world-reknowned Concertgebouw, also located on the Museumplein. There are grocery stores, bakeries and a nice wine shop all within a block of the apartment. But none of this matters without good service, and we found Cazjin and his wife to be warm and welcoming hosts. This apartment is where they lived previously and it is clearly a labor of love for them. Everything was nicely decorated, in good working order and very clean. I understand that you could get a nice hotel room for a similar price as this apartment, but having the extra space, 2 bathrooms, and the ability to have some meals at home make this a very good value compared to a hotel. We will defintely stay here again next time we go to Amsterdam!
We were greeted by a very friendly and helpful Eefje who gave us some pointers on her city for our 3 night stay in mid October 2016. The Canal House apartment was a perfect location, just outside all the hubbub in a relatively quiet area along a beautiful canal. The property was clean, well maintained and the description/pictures were accurate.
We found a Rijsttafel restaurant just a 5 minute walk (Puri Mas Restaurant) where we enjoyed a delicious and reasonably priced meal.
We would definitely recommend this apartment to anyone wishing to spend some time in Amsterdam.

My husband, daughter and I LOVED this apartment. We were greeted by the delightful owners and received a great orientation to the beautiful and well-equipped corner apartment looking over one of the most historic canals. It was comfortable, quiet, yet just a few blocks from good restaurants, The Van Gogh and Rijks Museums. We would recommend this apartment to anyone seeking a fabulous stay in Amsterdam.
Great location and amenities. Perfectly represented in the pictures. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this apartment in Amsterdam, and would recommend it highly. The huge windows overlooking the canal were great - it felt like we were outside when the windows were open, allowing a true Amsterdam experience. Hosts Cazijn and Eefje were very accommodating and helpful in all respects - thank you!!
The only drawback was the 2 flights of steep winding stairs to get to the apartment, which made the check out with our luggage a challenge (luckily, Cazjin graciously toted all the bags up when we arrived). Otherwise, a real gem!!
We work with a deposit check of €400 (or $500 what you prefer). This check will be returned to you when you leave the apartment.
