We are a family from Germany and live permanently in Ecuador since 2002.
With our own Lodge and the Equine therapy facility next door we live our dream close to nature, with cultural experiences and of course sunshine all year round! Our three boys are born in this wonderful country and homeschooled - we truly love our way of life here. As former bussiness consultants and managers of the award winning Hacienda Zuleta Hotel, we know the hospitality industry quite well - take advantage of our contacts and insights!
We also spend our time teaching at the university, coaching alternative schools, learning about shamanism, and volunteering at a local orphanage. We are happy to share, and looking forward to meeting you!
Thomas Ring purchased this villa in 2009
San Pablo is an authentic village in a quiet rural setting, only 50 miles from the capital Quito and with endless activities within 1 hour driving around the house. The climate is perfect - Sunshine on 350 days of the year!
The area is perfect for outdoor activities, shopping, there are restaurants close by and the cultural experience offered is amazing.
A perfect day: get up with the first rays of sun and hike up the Imbabura volcano. Come back, have a late breakfast on the terrace. Watch the horses in training. Later a trip to Otavalo, some crafts shopping, visit a cultural event or just watch the people at the plaza. Grab some fruit at the market and head for early dinner towards the lake, for a beautiful dining experience with sunset view at the shore. When home, the hot tub is boiling and you can count the stars of both hemispheres. Tomorrow you can do a trail ride and have tea time at a colonial hacienda. And change your flights to stay a little longer!
Un lugar lleno de paz, ideal para encontrarse y conectarse con la naturaleza. Christina y sus caballos dignos de ser experimentados! Saludos y hasta pronto.
The 4 Volcanoes Villa was wonderful!!!
We stayed (6 of us) for 10 days and never tired of the wonderful, ever changing views of the volcanoes from every vantage point in this open, spacious and Fung Shui home. The best part was the huge indoor fireplaces with a plentiful supply of the best smelling firewood, that we had burning nightly in the month of June. The climate is cool and what a treat to be able to enjoy this as well as the Jacuzzi, filled up and ready to relax in, at your request. The glass floor to ceiling windows and doors can be opened up completely, to give the feel of being totally outdoors. We enjoyed soft comfortable beds, a well equipped kitchen, ample reading material and a huge dining table for the meals we prepared or had cooked for us by the hired cook. The walk into the village is easy and very safe, the bus to Otavalo comes directly in front of the gated entrance for 35 cents. The buses are modern, clean and safe to ride. The Villa is exactly as described in the listing, and is immaculately maintained. A cleaning woman is available if you want or need, during your stay. There is no television (not needed) or music system, so if you want music, bring something portable .
We did not get to meet Thomas Ring, who was away at the time of our stay, we were greeted and assisted with all of our needs by Christina, his wife, who was always there on site in their separate home, and 100% helpful.
(Things to be aware of that certainly were not negatives but just part of the way of life in Ecuador, be patient with your needs for a HOT shower, this may be inconsistent due to the plumbing (gas and solar power), and toilets do not accept flushing paper.)
We stayed during the Inti Raymi Festival of the Sun, and I can still hear the wonderful musical sounds of the panpipes coming from the surrounding Andes mountains villages throughout the evening and into the night, into the villa with the windows open, and see the locals dancing through the narrow streets, and only wish I was still there.
This is a truely wonderful home and location.
Our family of 4 thoroughly enjoyed our time at 4 Volcanoes. The beds are gloriously comfortable and the views from the house absolutely breathtaking. We enjoyed many family meals cooked in the well equipped kitchen and explored the area with ease. The house's proximity to Otavalo, Parque Condor, San Antonio, Laguna Cuicocha and more was very helpful for exploring without spending many hours in the car. In the evenings and mornings we enjoyed the quiet of San Pablo.
Thank you for sharing your home with us Ring family!
We were just reminiscing about Ecuador and I realized I never wrote up a review for this fabulous accommodation.
My husband and I traveled in July of 2015 to Ecuador with two children in tow, a little nervous and in no way prepared for how amazing this trip would be. I would say without a doubt that our stay at 4Volcanoes was a major factor in how wonderful our trip was. We had everything we needed and were very well taken care of. Even when Thomas and his family were not on property we had excellent care takers who went out of there way to ensure we were having a great time. The property is amazing, exactly like the pictures and yet with views no picture can do justice. There is a great amount for the kids to do from tree houses to soccer fields to game rooms, and they were never bored. The property is also excellent just to walk along. We took several trips into town as well on foot and shopped at a fabulous little bakery with excellent treats. The Village was wonderful and we definitely had some "once in a lifetime" experiences! Ecuador is amazing, and to truly see it I would recommend a car or getting a driver. I cannot say enough good things about our stay and when we do come back we will definitely plan our dates around the availability of this amazing house.
We simply could not not book a stay at the 4 Volcanos for our trip in Eucuador based on the photos and listing alone. We researched the area prior to our arrival, yet no research was enough to prepare us for the magic of the house and surrounding area. Thomas was as present as needed and always ready to offer his help and advice, yet let us explore and enjoy at our own pace. We only stayed there for three nights, and this is way too short to take in all there is in this special part of the world. In fact we were at times thorn between the urge to explore and desire to relax in the absolute beauty and tranquility of the villa. Do yourselves a favour and book for no less than a week and more if your schedual allows. You will not regret a single moment.
We had such a wonderful stay at 4 Volcanoes. There really is nowhere like it!
Our 1 year old enjoyed the space, the toys and facilities while we enjoyed making pizza in the pizza oven and watching the sun set over the Volcanoes. A really perfect trip.
My wife and I and our boys, 12 and 10, recently stayed at 4 Volcanoes for 4 nights before traveling to the Galapagoes. Thomas personally picked us up in Quito and brought us to the villa. While there he arranged drivers for our day trips and also for our return tip to the Quito airport. Thomas and his wife and boys were the perfect family hosts and our kids totally loved meeting some new friends to play with on the beautiful grounds of this magnificant property. As wonderful as the photos depict this place, they still cannot totally capture the wonder of the view to the lake and the surrounding mountains. We built nice fires in the cool evenings and one night Thomas arranged for a local Ecuadorian expert to provide us massages by the fire. The house is simply stunning- inside and out! We cannot wait to return. Thanks Thomas and Cristina and the boys!
We named the house 4 Volcanoes Villa, due to its unique setting. Located at 9,000ft in the northern Andes of Ecuador and within a 5 minute walk from the main plaza of the rural village of San Pablo del Lago, we are surrounded by 4 majestic peaks of (extinct) volcanoes: Imbabura, Cusin, snow-capped Cotacachi and the Mojanda rim.
It is just a 1,5 hour drive from Quito international airport, and yet another world. Indigenous walk their cows and sheep to the grazing field every morning. The land is worked the old fashioned way and fresh mountain air clears your senses.
We have renowned hotels with an excellent restaurant offer within a 10 minute drive and some of Ecuador´s major tourist attractions such as famous Otavalo market or Cuicocha crater lagoon are just 30 minutes away.
