Enjoy a wonderful luxury home experience on one of northern Michigan's most famous rivers. The two-and-a-half bathroom home has three bedrooms and two loft rooms that are versatile and can accommodate a number of guests. The outdoor deck (riverside), the many windows, and the long kitchen bar are among the many unique features. However, the Rumford fireplace with Black River Michigan stone on the exterior is the centerpiece attraction. The house also features a three-zone geothermal heating and cooling system. The upper lofts are reached by ascending an iron-rod spiral staircase.
The ground-floor bedrooms feature foam beds. The master bathroom includes a stone-tiled Jacuzzi tub and shower highlighted with inlaid Petoskey stone. WiFi access and Dish Network satellite television are also available. In addition, you can access your personal Netflix account via Apple TV if desired.
Outdoor activities include easy trail access to the nearby Rayburn property (state-owned) and/or Hanson Hills on the edge of town for hiking, biking, snowshoeing, downhill and cross country skiing, or disc golf, depending on the season. In addition, there are miles of two-tracks, as well as hiking and skiing trails in nearby national forests. Kayak and canoe rental is just five minutes away in downtown Grayling. The local bike shop also has rentals for the town's many bike paths. And of course, the AuSable River provides some of the best fly-fishing in the country!
River access is just steps away from the house, where the water is clear and shallow, and the river bottom sandy for leisurely walks in the great AuSable.
Come and enjoy the river amid privacy and cedar trees all around.
Nathan and Randi Foster purchased the property in 2006, returning it to the Foster Family after three decades of various ownership.
In 1975, Nathan’s grandfather Dud Foster purchased a large swath of land at the headwaters of the AuSable, near Grayling, named by early trappers as Breakfast Point. Dud eventually subdivided his holding it into several parcels. He saw something in the river and surrounding cedar swamp that intrigued him. He turned the swamp into little hobbits of habitability one truck load of sand and a handful of Petosky stones at time.
Nathan’s other grandfather Art Lindauer, who lived his life as an architect and farmer, designed the home. Inspired by famous architects before him, Art’s vision and unique ideas have come to life inside and out. Some notable features include stained concrete floors, spiral staircase, natural light, large windows, diamond windows in the lofts, the Rumford fireplace, tight white stucco with a splash of color. The drawings of the River House at Breakfast Point hang in the walkway overlooking the great room in tribute to his efforts.
We are proud to offer a unique, modern, luxury home on the banks of the Au Sable River at a place called Breakfast Point.

we like really nice places to stay. the ritz in chicago, the grand hotel on the island, chanteau chantel when in traverse, four seasons on lanai...now i will include this riverhouse when on the au sable....very classy..clean...great for two couples...bedrooms very private with their own baths..secluded,classy,top notch river front accomadations...no complaints whatsover...i came to canoe the south branch ( the best stretch of water in michigan...but i'm thinking of a winter cross country ski trip...the mason tract is very pretty winter destination along with a visit to ma deeters...thanks randi we'll be back
The house is absolutely gorgeous. Everything is top notch, very well stocked, clean and brand new. The view and location are perfect. The large deck is great to sit and watch the river, or you can sit at the rivers edge and enjoy a fire. The property managers live next door which is also a plus, if you need anything they are very willing to assist. The only downfall would be seating outside. I wish there was a picnic table or some type of table to sit at outside and eat. Next time I will take some travel chairs. Seating inside is ok, just a small breakfast nook table, and the large bar with 5 bar stools. The master bathroom is stunning, the shower with the stone is exquisite. The fireplace is is breathtaking as well. This is a great place to stay. I would highly recommend it, we will be back. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home.
Our stay at the River House exceeded our expectations. It served as a good base for our trip to Macanac Island, and we found ourselves happily enjoying the benefits of being on the Au Sable River. While the property manager offered his canoe to provide enough river fun for the whole family (two kayaks were already on site), we decided to drive just over a mile to Penrod's to rent two tandem kayaks. The river is very peaceful; if we had more time, we would have added a fly fishing outing. Just like the river, the house is also very serene. The architecture and furnishings of the house are unique. I believe the pictures do not do the house justice. It is very private, yet with all the modern amenities we are used to. We would definitely stay in the River House again.
Memorial Day weekend...2015. This place is truly a diamond! We have rented numerous homes over the past several years but this is at the top of the group. Outstanding design, very comfortable, super clean and very private! We felt at home as soon as we arrived. You can relax inside and look out with the huge windows, sit out on the deck, or sit down by the beautiful Au Sable River. Nice! Excellent amenities. Thank you for letting us share this beautiful property!
We consider ourselves very fortunate to have spent the weekend at your lovely vacation home. It is elegant, comfortable and well-designed. It is a perfect Pure Michigan experience taking in the beauty of Michigan. Thank you for sharing and we will be back again!
We enjoyed a Winter weekend getaway at this lovely, well-equipped vacation home on the Au Sable River. The setting was easy to get to, yet secluded and peaceful. We loved the views of the forest and river from the home. The house was set up well for rentals and we felt very welcome. The design was wonderful and the owners thought of many amenities. It was wonderful to use the wood fireplace. We would like to return. The only down side was no large kitchen table and the bar stools for the kitchen counter were not comfortable for us to use. Overall though, it was a great place in a lovely setting with all the amenities.
Canoeing, Fishing, Golf, Skiing, Snowmobiling... all here!
