Overview

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Stoney Bay Beach House is a one bedroom, one bath masonry house with a 60 foot long covered gallery, located in privateer bay estates nestled on it's own private beach. The house is close to the ocean and facing directly east taking advantage of the trade winds to keep the house nice and cool, and is one of the least" buggiest" locations on St John. The house is the only one in Stony Bay, part of Privateer Bay, so the only neighbors you will be able to see will be on the BVI,s!

You will have no noise from cars, trucks, construction, dogs, roosters or people from this incredible location.

The living room/dining room has beautiful soaring 18' cypress ceilings, with comfortable upscale furniture. You can enjoy watching the sunrise over Norman Island (aka Treasure Island) and the Caribbean sea from the comfort of your pillow top bed. The gallery is very close to the water and has a hammock , lounge chairs, Adirondack chairs and a table with 4 chairs for outdoor dining. The kitchen has all the amenities including a dishwasher and front loading washer and dryer. There is a coral reef right in front of the house to Privateer Bay for endless underwater exploring.

If privacy, seclusion and nature are what your looking for this location is like no other.

Secluded paradise

We loved spending the week is this beautifully located home. Breath taking views! The final drive down the driveway is riveting! We would sometimes stand at the top of the driveway just soaking in the awesomeness. Majestic views! The home is very clean; I was quite impressed having been a housekeeper myself in my earlier day. I could tell they pour a lot of love in to keeping this home well kept. Plenty of shower & beach towels. The A/C in the bedroom was nice after long adventurous, sun-burned days on the beach. We enjoyed watching the goats walk by on the beach early in the morning, the hermit crabs rummaging about, and the cute birds playing on the jeep we rented enjoying their reflection in the windows. Hansen bay is the closest beach to the house & absolutely found it to be our favorite as it being on the end of St. John there were no other people on the beach but ourselves and it was spectacularly clear. The house does have a beach umbrella, snorkel gear (we brought our own though), beach chairs. If your picking up groceries be sure to get condiments as well. Since coral bay was closest we ate at Pickles for breakfast- their breakfast burrito is amazing! Miss Lucy's had great lunch & cocktails with a great view- conch fritters were on point! If looking for good fine dining experience try Extra Virgin Bistro in Cruz Bay- amazing ambiance, service and food...you will not be disappointed. I highly recommend a night spent walking around Cruz bay. The night life with music echoing through the air, the cool breeze and people were so nice. We had to pry ourselves away this house when it was time to leave. Beautiful, fun island to visit. Loved every minute of it!

A beautiful home in a terrific location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed June 14-20, 2018 and loved the peacefulness of this house. We decided to cook our own meals since the kitchen was great, the outdoor table gave us the ability to enjoy the sound of the ocean and amazing stars that filled the sky.

There was too much wave action to snorkel in front of the property the week we were there but it was a short drive to other great snorkel spots.

Secluded, beautiful, exactly what we were looking for!

  • 5 of 5

This was not only our first time to stay in Stony Bay Beach House, but our first time to St John, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience! Bob (owner) & Kathy (property manager) were both extremely responsive and so helpful! They answered all our newbie questions and made sure we had all the maps and info we needed. Kathy even met us in town to drive us to the house. You will definitely need a four-wheel drive to maneuver that driveway--it's no joke--but totally doable and worth it! The house was clean and in perfect condition--so private and peaceful. The only downside was the water (in our own private bay!) was too rough to snorkel right from the house, but we didn't care! We loved star-gazing at night and hearing nothing during the day but ocean waves. We will be back!

Private and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Stoney Bay Beach house was a beautiful house with a view that was unbelievable. I just loved sitting on the porch reading a book. The stars at night are a sweet treat. The moon was just past full the first night we arrived and was shining on the ocean in the backyard. I couldn't stop saying wow.

The bed and pillows were very comfortable, and there was a window air conditioner in the bedroom if you need it.

The kitchen had everything we needed. We made breakfast there everyday and a few dinners. There was a tv/dvd with some movies, the majority were kids movies. But most nights we just read our books.

The drive out there was farther than I anticipated. I knew it was 20 minutes past Skinny Legs, but it really is up and down over and over. If you are prone to car sickness (as I am) this might not be the best choice. The driveway is a doozy. This is my 9th visit to the island, so I am familiar with some steep driveways, but this one scared me. But if you like rollercoasters like my husband, this thrill will be just right for you.

Our visit was May of 2018, post-Irma. The house and property was repaired by the time we arrived and was in pristine condition. The rest of the island was in progress in it's Irma/Maria clean up. About 1/2 of our favorite restaurants were back up and running. The beaches were all open (except Caneel) and beautiful, but definitely missing the sea grape trees for shade. Umbrellas just blow away. Consider bringing something that can provide you shade that's easily packable.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review ! i do want to say a few words about my driveway . It is steep , but not steeper than the main road to the house . All the steep areas are paved . I chose not to build a parking platform so you can park right next to the house and to enter the house there's only two steps which is great for bringing luggage , groceries etc. into the house . For anyone interested in viewing the driveway there's a go pro video guests posted on You Tube . Just search " Stony Bay beach house " on You Tube. Thanks so much and we hope to see you again ! Bob

Beautiful House in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We were devastated when the Hurricane's hit in 2017 and could not wait to get back to the island. The owner of this lovely home really took extraordinary efforts to make repairs and clear all the debris. You would have never known a hurricane hit his home . This house is a gem- very private with a lovely beach front. If you are looking for privacy off the beaten path, this is the perfect get away.

Location

Car: necessary

The house is located on its own private bay, Stony Bay, inside of

privateer bay. There are no neighbors in this bay so you will have it all to yourself. I can guarantee no noise from cars, trucks, construction, dogs, roosters, people etc. Its a truly amazing location.

Coral bay has everything you need and is just 13 minutes away.
