About Stephen Girardin

My parents bought this property when i was 4, and all my childhood memories remain in the walls of this house. I used to live in Paris when i grew up, and we would go to this house every single weekend! After studying biology at the Pasteur Institute (Paris) for several years, I moved with my wife and our two kids to Toronto, where i do research at the University of Toronto.

Stephen Girardin purchased this cottage in 1975

Why Stephen Girardin chose Priez

When we bought this house in 1975, my parents fell in love with the location: so quiet, so secluded, yet so close to Paris (1h drive). The house is surrounded by rolling hills of open farmland, and the only noise you hear is birds singing!

However, when we bought the house, it was in a very rough shape. The roof was leaking and we had to change 500 square meters of roof tiles!! There was no toilet, no bathroom, no heat, and only the kitchen and a bedroom were 'livable'. After nearly 40 years of renovations, we uncovered the original gem, fully renovated 275 square meters of living space, kept the original charm of the old farmhouse, but brought comfort and high-end finish throughout.

Large and Comfortable Property

  • 5 of 5

We loved our week-long stay - this property truly was a home away from home. The rooms are very spacious and the two wood fireplaces were lovely to use during the cooler evenings. Surrounded by farmland - this beautiful cottage offers a very relaxing holiday in the French countryside. We would definitely stay here again.

Fabulous home!

  • 5 of 5

This is such a gem. We loved our stay. It was truly a privilege to stay in such a beautiful home of this age. The home was spacious and well appointed. It is in the country but several small villages available for shopping and dinning. The weather was raining our entire stay and we were not able to enjoy the lovely court yard however the two fireplaces made for a cost warm stay whether in the kitchen or in the family room. Thank you for making this very special home available to home away.

Large and comfortable country house

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 4 stayed here for almost a week during a heat wave in late June and were delighted with our stay in this well-appointed gite. Even though the outside temperatures were in the high 90s, the interior of this stone home stayed a good 10 degrees cooler, making it a nice oasis when returning from our daily trips - don't miss visiting both the German and American WWI memorials nearby. This home is situated next to a farm and is very private but also quite isolated. You will need a car as the nearest village is about a 15-minute round trip. Overall a great place to relax and escape in the many nooks of this house, both inside and out, and read a book, nap, play cards, sip wine...all the while taking in the beautiful views of the rolling wheat fields that surround the property.

Great place in the middle of the countryside!

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed our stay here! Stayed for 9 nights and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings in the small town we stayed in! Very cool that the house was built in the 1700s. It was great to get away from the craziness of Paris and be right in the middle between Disneyland Paris and Champagne houses. If you are looking for a spot to take your kids to Disneyland and also have some adult time in the champagne houses, it can't be beat! Also, Stephen is great at giving his tips on restaurants and places to visit in the area. Would definitely do it again!

Fantastic house and surroundings

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful property - large enough for four couples without getting in each others way. The best information pack for a house that we have rented in France - thanks Stephen. Can recommend the restaurant Les Ruines at La Ferte Milon - one of the best meals we have had in France and the welcome from the owner was great. Coming from NZ it was great to find a well stocked kitchen as far as utensils, crockery etc - a really great kitchen for cooking in. We enjoyed our stay - 1 week was too short.
