About Ken Gulaian

Hi everyone! We are Kari Heerdt and Ken Gulaian, and as the owners of Round Peak Vineyards, we'd like to introduce ourselves and our team. We met in Cincinnati in 1998 when we both worked for General Electric. We moved to Charlotte, NC in 2000 for a new job opportunity, loved it, and decided North Carolina was where we would stay. Careers got in the way though, and in 2006 we moved to San Francisco for Kari's work. This proved to be instrumental since it resulted in a lot of time spent enjoying wine in Napa, Sonoma, and especially the Dry Creek Valley. We particularly enjoyed the small family owned wineries. When we got the chance to return to North Carolina in 2008, again for Kari's work, we jumped at the chance. Ken had already decided it was time to give up the corporate world, and when we found out there was an opportunity to own a winery in North Carolina, we couldn't resist! After visiting, being impressed with the wines, and seeing the spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, we decided to take the challenge.

Ken Gulaian purchased this house in 2008

Why Ken Gulaian chose Mount Airy

When we purchased the winery, we saw the potential to create a really unique rental opportunity, where you can stay right in the heart of wine country, relax and enjoy some fantastic views, but still get out and participate in the many activities in the region. We spent a year upgrading the house, and the surrounding area, to make it an ideal place for a group to stay.

What makes this house unique

If your a wine lover, we are committed to making the best possible wines, and we hope you'll come and experience Round Peak Vineyards, visit some of the numerous North Carolina Wineries, and check out all that the area has to offer! If you're not a wine lover, hopefully we can convert you!

Location

Round Peak Vineyards is located at the junction of I-77 & I-74 near Mt. Airy, a perfect stop on your travels North or South, or as a break on the way to the NC / SC beaches. We are in the Yadkin Valley, near more than 30 other wineries. Mount Airy is the home of Andy Griffith and famous for being the town used as a model for Mayberry. Take a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway, only nine miles away, for some spectacular views. The area is the birthplace of the Round Peak style of Fiddling, with many events during the year.

Great weekend with the family

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the vineyard cabin the weekend before Thanksgiving. Our daughter was running in the Mayberry Half-Marathon so the whole family was there to support her. The cabin comfortably accommodated us all, including our 12 pound Havanese dog. Everything was clean and tidy, and the kitchen was well-equipped with everything we needed to cook a big family meal. We enjoyed strolling over to the winery for a taste-testing, and our granddaughter loved romping around the grounds with our dog. Mount Airy (Mayberry) is only about 10 minutes away, and provided us with lots of small-town entertainment after the race. I would definitely recommend this property as a relaxing get-away for families, and it would make a great destination for a girlfriends' get-away as well.

Fabulous!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Awesome find with so many to choose from. This cabin is everything they claim it is and then some.We had a very stress free Thanksgiving with our son his wife and 3 young kids. Total of 7people and 2 dogs. Plenty of room for everyone without being crowded. I would recommend this place to everyone. The back porch is awesome. Scenery is breathtaking. Everyone at the winery was super nice and Ken was very helpful whenever I emailed him. Thank you for sharing your Winehouse with us.

PS: The only thing that I think you need here are few pairing knives. Everything else was provided .

Needing to find a pet friendly place to stay, we found this online and took our chances. What a pleasant surprise!! This is a great place - clean, plenty of linens, ample seating and very friendly staff at winery. The view and grounds are amazing and the location is very convenient to attractions in the area. We will definitely return!!

Relaxing weekend

  • 5 of 5

Staying at a winery is a privilege and experience in and of itself. We had a very good two days there. The cottage has some age on it, but it is a cottage afterall, and it was very clean and accommodating. The three of us (one being our dog, Tuco) enjoyed it very much. And, I want to complement the owners with the highest praise. They are extremely nice people and were so welcoming to us, allowing us to walk in the orchard and on the property at our pleasure and sit at the winery with Tuco and observe all the activities of the after-harvest. Thanks to them and my recommendation to anyone thinking of staying there. And, an extra thanks for the complementary bottle of wine lift for us.

A nice, peaceful rural retreat! Everything you needed was there and waiting!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived with 6 senior adults and a gentle dog, not knowing what to expect. We were delighted with the house and it's location. There was everything that we needed and plenty of room to relax. We enjoyed the screened-in porch where we could eat or just relax and play cards!

We really appreciated the owner inviting us over to watch them process the grapes from the vineyards. Something we would never see anywhere else. We also went inside to sample several varieties of the wines that they sell.

We toured the area sights of interest and returned each night to a peaceful rest. We truly enjoyed our vacation! Thank you for allowing us to visit you!
