Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday condo in Waikiki - 2121 Ala Wai 2406

This 2 bedroom/1 bath condo with full kitchen and lanai.  The lanai faces the Ala Wai Canal and has gorgeous views; Since this is a single load building, you also have ocean view from the walkways. TAT LIC. #W25142544-01.

The building is a 42 story high-rise with 211 apartments total. The project was completed in 1977. This unit is a two bedroom/one bath. Each unit has its own parking space. Amenities include swimming pool, sauna, BBQ grill and recreation room.

The unit was updated in June of 2011. Furniture was reupholstered, apartment was painted, new carpets insttalled, bedding and linens replaced, along with a new washer/dryer in the apartment. This property is not a glamorous apartment, however, it is tropical,has a great location, with great views! A - 2 bedroom 1 bath unit with a full kitchen, in the heart of Waikiki with free parking, washer/dryer in the unit, free phone and wifi, all for under $200/ per night, TRUE VALUE! 2121 Ala Wai is also a very nice building that has a great reputation. It is more of a condo style though vs a hotel so if you are looking for a "resort" style property, this is not for you. Great for people looking to save money on accommodations while having the simple conveniences of a home instead of a hotel room. Beautiful views! Just a side note: The parking stall is not very large so please keep this in mind when renting your car and the size you choose!

The vacation rental was very dirty.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental.

Cockroach hotel with no ac

The vacation rental was somewhat dirty.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental.

There were no screens for any of the windows and the windows were the glass shutter type and even if you close them all the way the bugs would come in. We had dozens of cockroaches as a result. It was hot and humid and I had trouble sleeping at night due to no ac. The vent in the bathroom

Had years of gunk caked on it....if I had a screw driver I would have taken it off and cleaned it myself. Disgusting! Our parking stall was on the very end and we had an suv and it made it take over five minutes to park each time as a result as we had to have everyone get out before I could park. At night the traffic from the street below is so loud it's hard to sleep. You try to close the windows to have some quite and it heats up. Catch 22.

Stayed a week in Feb. 2015, unit needs a thorough cleaning, flooring on balcony needs replacing, bedding needs replacing, what you get is not what is shown in pictures. No drapes or blinds on any windows, shower doors & grouting in bathroom really needs looking into. Owner should really look into spending some money on this unit. The management firm was helpful but she said their hands are tied if the owner will not bring the unit up to date. Location is great, building itself is great & the people there were very nice & helpful.

For the price we paid, it was good value...

We stayed for a month and the rental rate at that time was well below other two bedroom units in Waikiki. Having looked at the photos, I don't believe any updates have been done since 2011 so perhaps that wording should be eliminated from the listing or updated photos submitted. The condo is in a great location and the building itself is lovely with great staff/security personnel. When we complained that the dishwasher hadn't been hooked up, the management company had it connected and working the next day. The stove was replaced while we were there but it was a three day process as the wiring had to be changed and eating out in Waikiki is very costly for a family of five. In our opinion, the unit doesn't need to be renovated as much as it needs to be thoroughly cleaned and small repairs done. The bathroom shower door rail needs to be cleaned or replaced so the doors will slide. A handheld shower head would be an asset as well. The water in the toilet tends to keep running and the bathroom vent appears moldy. The lanai carpeting needs to be removed or replaced as the holes make it a safety hazard. The master bedroom mirrored door keeps going off track making it very difficult to slide. The management company was very prompt replacing the bedroom phone for us although it would be nice to have a working phone jack in the kitchen. The wifi had to be fixed while we were there as well. I would suggest that some cleaning supplies be left in the condo in the event that the cleaners miss some of the problem areas. All in all we really enjoyed our stay in this condo and would be happy to return for another month if we could get the same rate.

Overall the rental was nice. The bedrooms were a bit smaller than what they appear in the photos, but worked for us. The location was excellent for our needs and having the kitchen was a definite money saver. Sleeping at night can be challenging due to the number of sirens, trucks backing up, and trash trucks making rounds, but his is nothing that can be controlled. There are either termite or roach droppings falling out of the bathroom door on a daily basis. None of the remote controls for the television worked, thank goodness for phone apps. We had to call the management company to find out how to access the wi-fi. This information should be relayed to visitors either in an email or by leaving a note. Other than those items, the condo worked well for our stay.
