The House:

This house comfortably accommodates a family of 8.

Three bedrooms with 2 full bath one with standing shower downstairs and one with a jet tub upstairs.

The master bedroom has a king bed and the other two bedrooms have queen beds in them.

There is a pullout sofa in the living room that turns into a queen bed.

The kitchen is fully stocked with refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave oven, a range/oven, coffee maker, toaster and a blender, dishes, glassware and cookware.

The dining room accommodates 8 people around the table. There is another table in the kitchen with 4 chairs.

If you need more than 3 bedrooms you can also rent the lower unit which is a full one bedroom apartment accommodating 4 guests.

After Georgetown to the west, Capitol Hill is Washington's oldest neighborhood. In its earliest days, most of the residents were members of Congress who lived in boarding houses and dormitories surrounding the Capitol. As the neighborhood evolved, row houses replaced boarding houses and the Hill began to grow as a neighborhood filled with families, as well as Washington's who's who. As you walk around this stately neighborhood, don't be surprised if you see faces you've seen in the news. A number of senators and representatives make their home on the Hill.

In addition to the U.S. Capitol, the Hill includes other significant American landmarks such as the U.S. Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, the Folger Shakespeare Library, Union Station, the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks, the Washington Naval Yard, Congressional Cemetery, Lincoln Park, and the Eastern Market. All of these sights are within easy walking distance and most are Metro-accessible. Just down the hill from the Capitol is the National Mall with all of the monuments and memorials iconic to Washington, as well as more than 10 museums and galleries of art and artifacts.

To the east of the Capitol is the Eastern Market—one of the only remaining merchant markets left in Washington. While the market bustles during the week, it is on the weekends that it acquires its character and charm as residents from all over the city and visitors from all over the world come to the market to enjoy breakfast; purchase fresh meats, produce, and breads; stroll through the adjacent flea market; and browse the latest art and jewelry crafted by local artists and artisans.

During the spring and summer months, a visit to the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks at 8th and I Streets SE will allow you to see the Marine Corps Silent Drill Team in action. This 24-man rifle platoon performs precision maneuvers with their 10.5 lb M-1 Garand rifles with fixed bayonets.

Over at the U.S. Capitol, the newly opened visitor's center allows visitors to experience the Capitol from the ground up. The center features several state statues in Emancipation Hall and a museum that chronicles the history of the U.S. Capitol from its cornerstone laying in 1789 by George Washington to the present day. Tickets for the Senate and House galleries are available here.

The Library of Congress' Jefferson Building, just across the street from the Capitol, is the world's largest repository of books and media in the world. The building is open to the public and the Renaissance and classical art are breathtaking.

These and other sites make staying on Capitol Hill a must if you're visiting Washington on business or for pleasure.

About Allen

The redhead next to me is my wife Ana.

We have 2 daughters who are grown and are on their own ( not really, if you are a parent you know) and a 14 pound Schnoodle ( he thinks he is a giant). We have been living in the DC metro area for about 36 years and absolutely love it. Washington DC is a beautiful city, it really is and for people coming here to spend their vacations or attend conferences, weddings, funerals (The Arlington Cemetery), graduations, sight seeing, festivals etc. etc. there isn't any city that offers so much.

I manage the properties and Ana tells me what to do (!!!) We are a great team and enjoy doing what we do.

Allen purchased this townhome in 1987

Why Allen chose Eastern Market

This house is located in one of the best neighborhoods in DC due to the proximity to the Capitol and the museums, the metro station and all the Eastern Market. You really do not need a car to explore most of the touring sites from this house.

Great place to stay!

We loved the location. Everything was provided for the kitchen and towels. Great area that we could walk around and get to all the sites. We used the subway system which was also close. The owner had information in the house to help. I would highly recommend this place.

Great house, great location, Loved it!

The house was wonderful! Plenty of space, everything we needed. Plenty of towels, extra blankets and even a rolling cart to help you get your groceries to and from the grocery store which is very close. It is very close to the subway which made it very convenient, very close to a Subway sandwiches and the grocery store had a hot bar, salad bar and breakfast bar daily. Plenty of pre-made fresh meal choices you could buy to cook as well. The homeowner was very fast to respond to any question that we sent, even when we called him at 9:40 pm because we tripped a fuse. He called to check in on us the evening of our arrival and once during the stay to make sure everything was going OK. If we go to DC again, We would definitely stay there again!!

Quite Positive

We enjoyed our stay and felt the accommodations were comfortable, clean and enjoyable. We had a full kitchen, TV and separate bedrooms. In addition, there was a CVS pharmacy in walking distance so were able to get any food and other items we needed during the stay. Finally, Allen was responsive immediately to any concerns we had so helpful assistance when needed. Would definitely come back should we come to D.C. again.

Is this the right place?

We thought we were in the wrong property. Had to look at the VRBO site for this property to see if we saw anything familiar. Site pics are all bright and clean. Our actual experience of at this property for 10 days was it was beat and grungy. Downstairs dining room was as shown accurately in VRBO pics. We used this room the most to eat, do computer work and prepare for research we were doing at the national archives. Living room is not as pictured in the property pics. Even though it has nice new TV system, the couch/sofa bed was absolutely filthy, and not fit for our use. It had stains and was disgusting. Every blind in the place, other than kitchen, was broken and bent which gave the property an air of neglect. Upstairs bathroom had areas by tub where construction hadn’t been completed. There was a gaping hole by shower head on wall. Windows in bathroom had lots of water damage. Disgusting! The first night we saw a cockroach and a spider in tub. The bedroom at the top of stairs does not have a closet, and the table fan was necessary at night to dampen the outside noise, especially on weekends. As a classic row house, the property has lots of character...pretty arches and the hardwood floors and oriental carpets are lovely downstairs. Upstairs are the 3 bedrooms with plenty of storage and towels. Apartment size washer and dryer were great for washing towels before our departure. Fabulous well stocked kitchen probably our favorite room. It isn’t in property pics. There is a great refrigerator and dishwasher. Floors tub, shower, BR sinks, toilets, and kitchen were spotless but, unfortunately didn’t make up for the other issues. First night we had no hot water. Allen, the landlord and great guy, came late at night to relight pilot light. Next morning, it was ice cold. Called Allen. It was fixed by end of day. Location convenient for all DC sites. Used Lyft never had to wait more than 5 min for car. People in neighborhood were friendly, although twice we were unable to get to property because the street was blocked off because of police activity, fire or ambulance. One day when we came home late afternoon, 12 police cars, 3 ambulances at large apt complex across from property. Residents had emptied into parking lot. Lots of yelling and several men started pushing the police. Police successfully deescalated situation. Two other mornings, individual woman approached us aggressively while waiting for Lyft. All communication with Allen superb.

Owner's Response: I met Kathy and her friends a couple of times when I went to replace a part on the water heater. We talked for a half an hour or so about current events and her genealogy research they were doing while in DC. They seemed to be very happy with everything. Nearly two weeks after their departure, she sent me a list of complaints and a request for an immediate refund. This was absolutely shocking to me. Not to mention, she never brought up ANY of this while she was staying with us or when we met or talked on the phone. It was disheartening to say the least when I received her email requesting a refund and an implied threat of a negative review if I didn't comply ASAP. I have been renting my units for many years and have had hundreds if not thousands of guests come and go and have never encountered anything like this. It’s a first for me. I honestly don’t think she acted in good faith.

Great location, responsive owner

The best thing about this property is the location - near the Metro and a grocery store! The house was as advertised, a great place for our family to rest between our sightseeing adventures. Allen responded quickly to all questions and requests. I felt that the kitchen coukd use a bit more in the way of baking pans and utensils but I know we cook more than most people and I was able to make do for the time we were there. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to friends!
