Overview

About the property

2 bedrooms, 2 sleeper-sofas, 1 bathroom (WC in separate room), sleeps 7

The enchantment of Parisian living with the luxury of modern amenities.

Located at the foot of the 'village' of Montmartre, the apartment was recently remodeled to preserve the original charm dating back to 1869, while providing for a comfortable stay in the city of lights. With over 900 square feet and two large bedrooms, guests have plenty of room to relax and make themselves at home. Five glass double doors bathe the apartment in sunlight and allow access to two separate balconies that run the length of the apartment. The living room seating area provides two couches as a comfortable space to recount the day's adventures. A well appointed kitchen and dining table for 6 people allow for a home cooked meal of local ingredients purchased from neighborhood markets. The original wooden floors will tell you the tales of Montmatre's days gone by, while a short walk up the hill through the lively village of Montmartre will find you at the foot of Sacre Coeur, providing for a stunning view of the entire city.

In the village of Montmarte, there are numerous cafés, boutiques, restaurants, renowned pâtisseries and chocolate shops.

The apartment is located on the French second (American third) floor of a walk-up building. Three useful metro lines (#2, 4, and 12) For arrivals from the Eurostar, Gare du Nord is a ten minute metro ride to the apartment.

Additional amenities include wifi (now with fiber-optic speed) and phone calls to landlines in more than 50 countries. All bedding, linens, and towels are provided.

About Luke

We are two Americans that have lived in many places around the world, and were luckily enough to put down roots in Paris.

Luke purchased this apartment in 2010

Why Luke chose 18th Montmartre

After an exhaustive property search in the city we love (honestly over 40 apartments visited), we were thrilled to become the owners of our own little 'Château' apartment. From the first step on the original wooden floors of Château Montmartre, we were enamoured with the charm and detail that could only be found in such an authentic place. The atmosphere transported us everyday from the hustle of the city life below, to the decadent days of French gilded mirrors and marble fireplaces.

What makes this apartment unique

We decided to take on the challenge of self-managing a few updates to allow for a comfortable lifestyle. With an expanded, modern kitchen, and a spa-inspired bathroom, we believe the apartment offers the best of both worlds.

A good value

  • 4 of 5

We very much enjoyed our stay in this charming apartment (built in 1851 I believe!). Highlights were walking up the street a block to the local Patisserie for breakfast and having easy access to two metro stops. The Carrefour grocery store is also very close and we loved Gigis Pizza just up the street. The apartment had all the amenities we needed including a Nespresso machine, washer/dryer (which we did not use), fans and Wifi. A couple of things to note: we quickly ran out of toilet paper (only a couple of rolls there) so be prepared to stock up.

I would say the only negative for us is that the master bedroom faces the street and we found it quite noisy at night, especially on the weekend. Lots of motor bikes and yelling in the street. Also, we could hear a fair bit of movement from our neighbors at night. Not as peaceful as we would of liked, but guess this is city living, right? We always felt safe in the area.

Overall, a good value for the price. Luke and Caroline were easy to work with and Caroline reserved a car service for us to return to CDG. Very efficient.

Absolutely loved the Montmartre Chateau!!

  • 5 of 5

The Montmartre Chateau was even better than we had imagined. So clean and well stocked. The owners and manager were very helpful and answered all questions - even arranged for our taxi service to CDG on the day of our departure. Loved having the 24-hour bakery/pastry shop just a few doors away and public transportation so close. Our week spent in Paris was jam packed with seeing the sights, but we always had a relaxing morning eating our French pastries and enjoying our coffee. We plan on coming back to Paris when the gardens are in bloom and will definitely arrange to stay at the Chateau Montmartre again!!

Owner's Response: Joy, Thank you for the wonderful review, we are happy you enjoyed our apartment as your home in Paris! We always seek to prepare and support our renting-guests' enjoyment of their time in the apartment. Arranging a private taxi service for pickup or dropoff at the airport is our pleasure, upon request of guest. Cleanliness of the apartment is important to us, just as we wish it to be when we travel. We do try to stock the apartment with some bare essentials, though for most bathroom and kitchen items we leave this to each renting guest to purchase based on their own needs/preferences from any one of 5 grocery supermarkets within 300 meters of the apartment. We welcome you or friends in the future! Luke

Chateau Not-Montmartre

  • 1 of 5

While we hesitated to rate this apartment, we decided it's best to inform future renters not to rent this property because we don't want them to have a bad experience like ours. We were told before renting that the area had some problems but not to this extent.. Every night, we woke up to loud street brawls and were afraid to go out after dark for too many reasons to count. When we arrived, the apartment was dirty, washing machine was broken, and hall lights were burnt out. The caretaker made us wait in the cold for an hour after we arrived at Chateau Montmartre and finally answered the phone after waiting for more than 30 minutes. There are so many nice areas and apartments in Paris but this definitely is not one of them.

Owner's Response: We are disappointed that you did not enjoy your stay, and as you are nice people from our telephone conversation, your mis-characterization of certain points is equally frustrating for us, as the reviews of our many other guests praise the apartment as clean, the efforts of caretaker and myself as very supportive, and the neighborhood as gentrifying/cultural/bohemian. Your initial contact to me even stated you loved and were familiar with the immediate neighborhood around our apartment. Clothes Dryer: As the service repairman repeatedly postponed his visit over two weeks, for the benefit of our guests, I decided to replace it with a new high-end Whirlpool machine the day after your departure. Check-In arrival meeting: Upon your notification to us of your delayed flight from Japan, and request for delayed Check-In meeting time, we immediately responded and agreed rescheduling the meeting 1 hour later with our caretaker, per your request. As your flight made up time in air from Japan, arriving only slightly late, you arrived at apartment earlier than your requested rescheduled time. This was not the fault of the caretaker, who makes great effort to adjust schedules to accommodate guests, when possible.

Quaint French apartment

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We were very comfortable. The apartment had a nice kitchen with everything we needed to feel at home. The beds were also very comfortable. The only thing that was difficult was the bath is in the master bedroom and the toilet is in a different area of the house. Luke was very easy to work with when making preparations for our stay. We would definitely stay again when we return to Paris.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your thoughtful response, we are happy to hear that your family enjoyed staying at our apartment during your vacation, finding the beds comfortable and the modern kitchen to your liking. The split-bathroom arrangement (toilette and shower in separate rooms) is common in France, a clever idea to avoid that use of one prevents use of the other by other members of the family.

Perfect Place for the Perfect Price!

  • 5 of 5

This apartment was perfect for our stay in Paris in all ways--price, location, comfort.

PRICE: For the very reasonable cost (an entire 8 nights cost the same per person as maybe 2 nights in a hotel). The three of us all felt as if we had our own space in the apartment (two bedrooms and the pullout in the living room) and enjoyed the common space in the evenings when we could bring home a dinner or sit around the table before bed having champagne. Overall, the apartment is very cute and spacious for Europe and gives you the amenities that you just don't get in hotels. The full kitchen was great because we were able to buy/store some breakfast items (as we were often out the door before most cafe's opened) and were able to have morning coffee. While there is a TV, we didn't use it because...well, you're in PARIS! Additionally, the apartment comes with a washer/dryer. While we didn't end up using it, had we known that this was included we may have packed a little lighter and washed our outfits half way through. Either way--it's incredibly nice to have just in case you accidentally spill a delicious Nutella crepe on your white shirt.

LOCATION: Two of us had never been to Paris before and we planned to do many of the tourist things. This apartment was right next to a few metro lines so it was very easy to get around the city and go everywhere we wanted to--we didn't take any taxis except to and from the airport. Additionally, it's so close to Sacre Couer and the Montmartre area that you could easily spend a day just walking around that neighborhood and getting lost in shops and cafes.

COMFORT: Luke and Caroline were also amazing to work with. Luke was very informative and sends you plenty of information prior to your trip so that you feel safe and prepared upon arrival. Caroline was also very helpful in answering questions about the apartment and even set up taxis to take us to the airport. Both were extremely responsive to our emails or questions during our stay, which made us feel very comfortable.

In the end, we had never been to Paris before so really weren't sure where we should or where we wanted to stay. However, this apartment completely met our needs. If you're like us--this is a great rental!

Owner's Response: We are so happy to read your thoughtful review and that your family enjoyed the apartment. Yes, the apartment is very spacious for Paris at 85 square meters (900 square feet), and besides the old historic Parisian interior design charms, we invested in enlarging a fully renovated kitchen and bathroom to modern standards. We enjoy being supportive and responsive before and during your rental stay, to best enable your enjoyment of the apartment and your time in Paris. Thank you for taking such good care of the apartment!
