About the property

The enchantment of Parisian living with the luxury of modern amenities.

Located at the foot of the 'village' of Montmartre, the apartment was recently remodeled to preserve the original charm dating back to 1869, while providing for a comfortable stay in the city of lights. With over 900 square feet and two large bedrooms, guests have plenty of room to relax and make themselves at home. Five glass double doors bathe the apartment in sunlight and allow access to two separate balconies that run the length of the apartment. The living room seating area provides two couches as a comfortable space to recount the day's adventures. A well appointed kitchen and dining table for 6 people allow for a home cooked meal of local ingredients purchased from neighborhood markets. The original wooden floors will tell you the tales of Montmatre's days gone by, while a short walk up the hill through the lively village of Montmartre will find you at the foot of Sacre Coeur, providing for a stunning view of the entire city.

In the village of Montmarte, there are numerous cafés, boutiques, restaurants, renowned pâtisseries and chocolate shops.

The apartment is located on the French second (American third) floor of a walk-up building. Three useful metro lines (#2, 4, and 12) For arrivals from the Eurostar, Gare du Nord is a ten minute metro ride to the apartment.

Additional amenities include wifi (now with fiber-optic speed) and phone calls to landlines in more than 50 countries. All bedding, linens, and towels are provided.

About Luke

We are two Americans that have lived in many places around the world, and were luckily enough to put down roots in Paris.

Luke purchased this apartment in 2010

Why Luke chose Clignancourt

After an exhaustive property search in the city we love (honestly over 40 apartments visited), we were thrilled to become the owners of our own little 'Château' apartment. From the first step on the original wooden floors of Château Montmartre, we were enamoured with the charm and detail that could only be found in such an authentic place. The atmosphere transported us everyday from the hustle of the city life below, to the decadent days of French gilded mirrors and marble fireplaces.

What makes this apartment unique

We decided to take on the challenge of self-managing a few updates to allow for a comfortable lifestyle. With an expanded, modern kitchen, and a spa-inspired bathroom, we believe the apartment offers the best of both worlds.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Fabulous apartment and superb owner!

  • 5 of 5

Great apartment, warm and well appointed. Fantastic communication from the owner Luke prior to our stay who answered our questions promptly.

Good directions to the apartment and met by the property manager at the apartment who was on time and kept in contact with me as I was enroute on the Eurostar to Paris in case of any delays.

Easy journey from Gare Du Nord. I would recommend taking a cab to the apartment or anywhere else for that matter especially at night as there are a lot of unsavoury characters around the station. Also, only take a cab from the cab rank and don’t engage with individuals who offer you a taxi unsolicited.

Gorgeous traditional Parisian apartment with many original features. Lovely and warm which was welcome as the weather has started to get colder. Very secure as well and as two women travelling we felt safe.

Great bathroom and light and airy apartment with two balconies.

Several supermarkets close by, however with such fabulous food in Paris we ate out everyday and there are lots of great restaurants and cafes in walking distance from the apartment. We went to Sacre Fleur on the first night which was brilliant. Luke has also left a folder of information in the apartment with many other suggestions.

I would recommend waking to the right when leaving the apartment if you plan to walk down towards the Seine which takes about 45 minutes and is a lovely walk in that direction past independent shops, cafes and restaurants. Also worth taking the route through the covered passages which are Paris’s 18th century shopping malls full of antique book shops and many boutique stores. We also did a croissant making course in English at La Cuisine - 4th time with them and better than other schools I’ve tried.

I note earlier comments about noise from the street when staying in the front bedroom. I stayed in Paris in the 9th for a month last year and it was the same. It was only occasional and I was able to sleep through it. This is part of the the nature of staying in a big city.

A wonderful holiday and apartment in Paris with one of my best friends. Thank you Luke, Caroline and Camille for your kindness and hospitality and for making our stay so smooth and memorable. Defiantly would want to stay again when next in Paris.

Beautiful and spacious apartment!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in this lovely apartment. It has a "classic French feel," and I fell in love with the ceilings, you'll see what I mean when you wake up in the morning. The apartment had plenty of room, and I was very impressed with the spacious closet. It was also very convenient to have use of the washer and dryer so we could launder our clothing while we were there for two weeks. The beds were comfortable, and we enjoyed cooking several meals in the kitchen. It was very handy that there was a metro stop right around the corner as well. After a long day of walking the city and enjoying the beauty, it was nice to come home to this beautiful apartment. At the end of our trip, the manager Caroline was kind enough to arrange a ride for us to get back to the airport with all of our luggage..

Owner's Response: Deborah, We are happy to hear you enjoyed the apartment and its "classic French feel", we fell in love with the apartment, and made it our home, for the same reason. Original parquet floors, crown molding ceilings, and four marble fireplaces (non-functioning). Spacious bedrooms, lots of natural light through tall windows, and a large living room (formerly two rooms, many many years ago). Pleased that the beds were comfortable and the kitchen enjoyable for cooking during your trip. We appreciate your family taking such great care of the apartment during your stay. Your friends/family are always most welcome! Luke

Very nice apartment with the ambiance of a 19th century building!

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed the living space and overall charm! The kitchen was up to date and the shower was great. We would have liked the bath to be more centrally located, but it worked. Bring your own salt and pepper! Luke was a great host and provided lots of information!!

Pretty but super loud

  • 3 of 5

The apartment was nice, but overall the location was not my favorite of Paris and was super loud at night. Also, the place had no fans which kept the apartment hot and the internet was down during our stay. Luke was very nice when he talked to us on the phone, but we wished the problem could have been resolved, because it made our stay a little bit more difficult to navigate without internet. Overall, the place was not bad, but there were a few things we didn't enjoy.

Owner's Response: Kathy, Thank you for taking great care of the apartment during your rental. Our apologies for the disruption of internet service during your stay and that our efforts together were not immediately successful; a technician determined a hardware problem in the WiFi/router, and replaced the unit, so WiFi internet has been restored and is now functioning. The apartment has 2 portable fans for use in the bedrooms during the warmest weeks of summer. Luke
