Come stay at Camp Stardust, a very sweet cabin in the woods, on the water, with ultimate privacy. There are no neighbors, you will be sharing this slice of heaven with wildlife and the occasional canoe gliding by.
This cabn sits right over the lake with private waterfront, dock and boathouse. The oversized windows capture the beauty of the natural surroundings, so the views are stunning, even at night. We turn on the fire, turn off the lights, and enjoy the reflection of the moon off the lake which is just beautiful. The sight of the fog lifting in the morning is worth the early rise.
Sleeps up to 4, but this is the perfect romantic getaway for two. No need to leave the comfort of the sofa to experience the beauty of the local wilderness, and those who do venture out have plenty of hiking, kayaking, swimming, exploring, skiing, snowshoe and snowmobile opportunities. We supply local guide books and restaurant recommendations.
The open floor plan with cathedral ceilings creates a spacious, airy main room with easy to turn on gas fireplace. There are 2 bedrooms, one with queen bed, one with a double. A separate TV room is for watching movies, reading or enjoying that mid afternoon nap. Great lake views from this sweet little room as well.
Camp Stardust has one bath (shower only), a sweet outdoor shower in warmer months, indoor fireplace, outdoor firepit, full kitchen, weber grill, wifi, 40' flat screen for DVD movies and Netflix (but no cable), land line phone (no cell service here!), and a fabulous Sonos Stereo system with indoor and outdoor speakers to enjoy music while grilling or chilling.
Need to work while here? We have a desk right up against the window so you can write that novel or email your client while observing the wildlife on the lake.
This cabin is like living inside a snow globe in the winter...there are so many windows you are simply surrounded by the snowfall! A unique feature is that the slightly moving water out front rarely freezes, so expect beautiful views and wildlife sightings year round. Otters are frequently seen sliding across the ice, very fun to watch!
Many hiking, snowshoeing and x-country ski adventures to be found locally. Great fishing. There is an adoroble ski mountain, Oak Mt., next town over with great music, meals and fun skiing. Ask about the $50 discount they offer to our guests! Gore ski mountain is a 50 minute drive. We supply 2 sets of adult snowshoes and one child pair. We are surrounded by woods, the lake and rivers - so a snowshoe hike right from the front door will take you through very pretty snow covered forest and striking river front spots.
This is snowmobile country - hundreds of miles of groomed trails through the woods and across the many lakes. Stop in to a local pub for lunch and a beer, and head out to the next lake. Local rentals, lessons and guides available.
But our favorite activity is sitting by the fire with a hot cocoa and observing the wilderness and the ever changing weather from the comfort of the sofa :)
An all wheel drive vehicle is necessary to navigate our snowy dirt driveway in winter. It is plowed regularly but can be tricky in icy weather. The other option is to leave your car at the end of the driveway and walk in (rarely necessary).
SPRING and SUMMER
This is a kayak haven for both beginners and the more experienced. You will have 4 kayaks, a 2 person canoe and adult life preservers. Our Lakefront Boathouse provides easy access to the water. Watercraft available May 10-Nov 1.
Kayak 10 minutes to the right, you are on stunningly beautiful Piseco Lake. Kayak 30 minutes to the left (for the experienced kayaker only) to the more remote wilderness of Big Bay Lake. Lots of natural shoreline and wildlife to explore. Most of our waterfront is too shallow to swim, so we kayak to the lake and enjoy the clear water and sandy bottom of Piseco Lake for a swim.
Need we say how stunningly beautiful it is here during foliage? It's magical.
MORE ABOUT THIS CABIN
This is a no parties, no smoking, NO PETS (sorry!), allergy sensitive household. Due to our close proximity to the water, we have limited well and septic capacity. As a result, we can have no more than 4 persons here at any time, so this is not the place for family reunions or entertaining.
We do our best to keep a pristine home, we are sure even the most discerning guests will be very happy here.
This is a very private, secluded property, however it is not remote. It is easy to get to, we are down a private 200ft dirt driveway directly off Rt 8.
What's to LOVE? Just about everything listed above.
What might you NOT love? There is a small bridge nearby that separates the outlet from Piseco Lake, and you can hear the cars going over the bridge when outside (but not while inside), which is the only thing we wish was different.
Also, RECYCLES are a real hassle here. Guests who choose to stay here must agree to take theirs home if they bring a lot in, or take a trip to the transfer station down the road and leave them there. Leaving a few is fine, but must agree to follow the towns strict recycle rules - they must be kept clean and separate from garbage. We (i.e. the housekeeper) then have to take them to the transfer station and separate them into bins by hand. She simply cannot handle this task if large amounts are left. So - our general rule here is like camping - if you bring it in, you must agree to take it out.
This is a great home for self reliant, independent travelers looking for very comfortable, private and pristine accommodation in a unique and special spot. Piseco and the surrounding area are beautiful, but have limited entertainment venues other than nature hikes, mountains, wildlife, lakes and rivers.
We have recently added a (very expensive!) generator to the property. So, in the event of a power outage, guests should not lose any amenities (lights, heat, phone, internet).
PLEASE NOTE: We get pretty booked up year round, so our housekeeper has set aside her Monday and Friday for us. Our rentals are M-F, M-M, F-M or F-F. Nov to April we can possibly make an exception if necessary, please enquire.
