|Minimum Stay||2 - 3 nights|
Romantic Cabin in the Woods, on the Water, with Ultimate Privacy. There are no neighbors, you are sharing this slice of heaven with the wildlife and an occasional canoe gliding by. Beautiful views any time of the year.
Cabin Life Magazine had a 6 page feature about this cabin!
The house sits right over the lake with 500 feet of private waterfront, a dock and boathouse. The oversized windows capture the beauty of the natural surroundings, the views are stunning, even at night. We turn on the fire, turn off the lights, and enjoy the reflection of the moon off the lake...just beautiful. The sight of the fog lifting in the early AM is worth the early rise.
Sleeps up to 4, but this is the perfect romantic spot for two. Great year round destination for couch potatoes and adventurers alike. No need to leave the comfort of the sofa to experience the beauty of the local wilderness, and those who do venture out have plenty of hiking, kayaking, exploring, skiing, snowshoe and snowmobile opportunities. We supply local guide books and restaurant recommendations.
Inside cathedral ceilings create an open, airy main room with kitchen, dining and living area with gas fireplace. There are 2 bedrooms, one with queen bed, one with a double. A separate TV room for watching movies, reading or enjoying that mid afternoon nap. Great lake views from this sweet little room as well.
We have one bath (shower only), sweet outdoor shower in warmer months, indoor propane fireplace, outdoor firepit, fully stocked kitchen, weber grill, wifi, 40' flat screen for DVD movies and Netflix (but no cable), land line phone (no cell service here!), Sonos Stereo system with indoor and outdoor speakers to enjoy music while grilling or chilling.
Need to work while here? We have a desk right up against the window so you can write that novel or email your client while observing the wildlife on the lake.
This cabin is like living inside a snow globe in the winter...there are so many windows you are simply surrounded by the snowfall, it's a beautiful sight! A unique feature is that the slightly moving water out front does not freeze, so there are water views and wildlife sightings year round. Very special spot.
Many hiking, snowshoeing and x-country ski adventures to be found locally. Great fishing. There is a small downhill ski mountain, Oak Mt., next town over. Gore ski mountain is a 50 minute drive. Cross country trails nearby. We supply 2 sets of adult snowshoes and one child pair.
This is snowmobile country - hundreds of miles of groomed trails through the woods and across the many lakes. Stop in to a local pub for lunch and a beer, and head out to the next lake. Local rentals, lessons and guides available.
But our favorite activity in winter is sitting by the fire with a hot cocoa and observing the wilderness and the ever changing weather from the comfort of the sofa :)
An all wheel drive vehicle is necessary to navigate our snowy dirt driveway in winter. It is plowed regularly but can be tricky in icy weather. The other option is to leave your car at the end of the driveway and walk in (rarely necessary).
We are surrounded by woods, lake and rivers - so a snowshoe hike right from the front door will take you through very pretty snow covered forest and striking river front spots.
SPRING and SUMMER
Comes with 4 very nice kayaks and one 2 person canoe, lake floats and adult life preservers. Our Lakefront Boathouse provides very easy access to the lake, no need to carry them anywhere. Watercraft available May 15-Nov 1 only.
This is a kayak haven for both beginners and the more experienced. Kayak 10 minutes to the right, you are on stunningly beautiful Piseco Lake. Kayak 30 minutes to the left (for the experienced kayaker only) to the more remote wilderness of Big Bay Lake. Lots of natural wild shoreline and wildlife to explore right out the front door. Most of our waterfront is too shallow to swim, except for one deep swimming hole. We kayak to the lake and enjoy the clear water and sandy bottom of Piseco Lake for a swim.
Need we say how stunningly beautiful it is here during foliage?
MORE ABOUT THIS CABIN
This is a no parties, no smoking, NO PETS (sorry!), allergy sensitive household. Due to our close proximity to the water, we have limited well and septic capacity. As a result, we can have no more than 4 persons here at any time, so this is not the place for family reunions or for entertaining.
We do our best to keep a pristine home, we are sure even the most discerning guests will be very happy here.
This is a very private, secluded property, however it is not remote. It is easy to get to, we are down a private 200ft dirt driveway directly off Rt 8.
What's to LOVE? Just about everything listed above.
What might you NOT love? There is a small bridge nearby that separates the outlet from Piseco Lake, and you can hear the cars going over the bridge when outside on the property (but not while inside), which is the only thing we wish was different.
Also, RECYCLES are a real hassle here. Guests who choose to stay here must agree to take them home if they bring a lot in. Leaving a few is fine, but must agree to follow the towns strict recycle rules - they must be kept clean and separate from garbage. We (i.e. the housekeeper) then have to take them to the dump and separate them into bins by hand. She simply cannot handle this task if large amounts are left. So - our general rule here is like camping - if you bring it in, you must be willing to take it out.
This is a great home for self reliant, independent travelers looking for very comfortable, private and pristine accommodations in a unique and special spot to get away from it all. Piseco and the surrounding area are beautiful, but have limited entertainment venues other than nature hikes, mountains, wildlife, lakes and rivers.
We have recently added a (very expensive!) generator to the property. So, in the event of (infrequent but they do happen!) a power outage, guests should not lose any amenities (lights, heat, phone, internet).
PLEASE NOTE: spring through fall our housekeeper is very busy, she has set aside Monday and Friday for us, so you must arrive and depart on one of those days (so M-F, M-M, F-M or F-F rentals only). Winter she has more flexibility.
David and Maura spend lots of time in the Adirondacks year round. We swim, flat water and white water kayak, paddle board, hike, downhill ski, cross country, snowmobile and simply chill up here.
Maura has a family camp nearby, has been coming to this area forever. We live and work in NYC, it's a 4 hour drive, just put in a book on tape, and in no time we are in paradise. Dave and Maura both work for themselves, and are working hard towards an early retirement to the Adirondacks.
Maura purchased this cabin in 2012
Why this property? It is so very rare to find this kind of privacy on the water, and with such a stunning view! We fell in love the second we saw this location.
We are the third owners. It was a seasonal summer camp since the 40's, using lake water as the water source. The second owners (contractors) started the renovation by securing the foundation, renovating the shell and putting in all those fabulous windows. By keeping the same footprint as the original cabin they were able to keep this amazing waterfront location - it is no longer possible to build this close to the water.
We worked with the previous owners to finish the home - there is a great 6 page article about this cabin and that unusual arrangement in Cabin Life Feb 2015 magazine. We had it winterized, put in a well for water, knotty pine ceilings and walls, wood floors, decorated and opened her doors to our first guests in August 2012.
As far as we are concerned, this is the perfect retirement spot. Until that time, however, we are sharing the house with guests, so far everyone has been just as thrilled as we are!
Privacy! Views! Open floor plan, immaculately clean and very easy house. It is in a very naturally beautiful and rustic setting, with lots of wildlife. We (or our guests) have seen loons, mergansers, ducks, herons, fox, coyotes, skunk, tons of fish, otter, owl, bald eagles, tons of birds, deer, fawn, a buck, a mama and baby bear!
First person to see and photograph a Moose (note: not a mouse!) from our property gets a free night stay!
Beautiful Place that we Enjoyed Fully. Did lots of kayaking, hiking & fishing. Gorgeous views from inside (and outside) the house, very fun to watch the weather roll in over the water.
Saw evidence of bears, out front there were blue heron, loons, mergansers and deer. In the water we spotted pike, small & large mouth & rock bass, fall fish, yellow perch and sunny. Beautiful drives & exploration off Rt 10.
What a stunningly beautiful lakeside cabin! We stayed with four people in the winter. It was snowing the whole time that we were there and we could not have wished for a more cozy winter retreat. Great cross country trails about 45 minutes away (just follow the very detailed instructions/notes that the owners provide). The owners were also super friendly and responsive to our requests.
By far the best property we've ever stayed in on HomeAway. Five star rating!
We fell in love with the pictures and must say that the cabin did not disappoint! We escaped for a 4 day weekend for a mini babymoon and our only regret was that we did not stay longer. The cabin was relaxing and cozy and comes with everything you would need for the perfect getaway. The view of the lake was just breathtaking and so private. We stayed late fall and the first few days were in the 50s and sunny and the last few were a winter wonderland! It was amazing to see the cabin/property in 2 different seasons. I loved that we received detailed instructions from the owners before we arrived. The information was helpful and took any guesswork out of planning for our trip. We cannot really provide any advice as to what is around the cabin because we packed all of our groceries so that we did not have to leave the property but the information packet had a lot of local suggestions.
Our stay at the cabin couldn't have been better. It's a wonderful retreat with all the amenities you'd need--and then some. The view is spectacular and we got the opportunity to sit by the fire and watch it gently snow on Thanksgiving day. Besides the location, the views, the comfort of the cabin and the beds, in particular I appreciated the easy payment process and the great communication with the owner. This one definitely goes on my "to stay again" list.
Clean and comfortable. Well stocked kitchen to prepare any meal indoors or out. A lot of things to do to be occupied and secluded enough to relax and do nothing at all.
The water views are beautiful from the cabin. Close to great hiking trails.
Relaxing and beautiful lakeside cabin. You could watch the wildlife from any window. We had a wonderful stay, great hiking trails just a few miles away and great fishing.
For hundreds of years the Adirondacks has been a destination location. Set in the Southern portion of the 6 million acre Adirondack Park, located in Hamilton County, Piseco is surrounded by beautiful mountains and pristine lakes.
Some of the most picturesque flat water and white water kayaking and canoeing can be found in this region. Waterfalls, stunning hikes with views, white water rafting, fishing and hunting are popular activities. The lakes are not crowded in the least, bring your boat and enjoy water sports.
This area is infamous for it's well maintained snowmobiling trails that go for hundreds of miles, all the way to Canada. Local rentals available.
|Refundable Damage Deposit||£406|
Holiday rates are higher, may have a longer minimum stay, please inquire
Watercraft is available for use May 15-Nov 1 only.
No entertaining at this cabin...no more than 4 people on property at any time.
Gorgeous in Winter! Need an all wheel vehicle to navigate woodsy driveway in snow however.
RECYCLES - are a real hassle here. Guests must agree to follow the towns strict recycle rules - they must be kept clean and separate from garbage. We (i.e. the housekeeper) then have to take them to the dump and separate them into bins by hand. We simply cannot handle this task if large amounts are left. So - our general rule here is, if you bring a lot in, you must agree to take them out! Leaving small amounts (less than one bag full) are fine, and will be hauled to dump by our fabulous housekeeper.
