About this property

Amazing Log Home Overlooking Lake Superior

This amazing northern Michigan lodge designed and custom-built awaits the arrival of your group and the opportunity to offer priceless, unmatched memories. The “Palace” as referred to by the locals, is situated on the “ridge” in Grand Marais and features a panoramic view of the city of Grand Marais, as well as, the marina, harbor, bay, and of course the grand Lake Superior itself and its sandy white beaches. The city is only 3 blocks away (a short bike ride or walk) making this location a family fun getaway. We offer several bikes on-site or bring your own to explore the city and the miles and miles of paved, quiet, lightly traveled, scenic roads where nature is in abundance. This house is situated with a peaceful and gorgeous view of the bay and Lake Superior offering cathedral ceilings and the ‘wall of windows’ in this unique 4-level, high-end log home inviting many breathtaking sites of freighters as well as one-of-a-kind sunsets, a view of the private pond, waterfalls and the artesian well. You will also enjoy watching deer, chipmunks, hummingbirds, an occasional eagle, wolf or bear in their natural habitat right outside the windows because this home is on a quiet “no outlet” road. The full-length decks on both sides of the home and several wooded acres surrounding it allows for outdoor fun and awesome views of wildlife first hand. The deck has seating that overlooks amazing sunsets and the night time lights of Grand Marais must be enjoyed.
The home décor offers a “rustic and woodsy” feel. There are many local effects including photos, antiques, and trophy animal mounts that are native to the area. Upon entering, you will be in awe of the spacious great room that engulfs the living, dining, and kitchen area. Several door walls offer access to the full-length deck that enables you to view Grand Marais and Lake Superior. A gas grill (please clean after use) is available on site, as well as a large picnic table for your use which allows an awesome area for dining while watching nature and the beautiful evening sunsets. If you prefer to prepare and cook a gourmet meal, you’ll enjoy doing so in our high-end kitchen with stainless appliances, custom hardwood cabinetry, granite counters, and a copper sink. The large, rustic wooden kitchen table offers enough seating for 8 people and the full-length wood and granite bar that also provides room on wooden bar stools. Hand-hewn hardwood floors encompass the entire downstairs living area which offers the perfect foundation for the leather and rustic wooden furniture. The living room area features a 14” thick carved front door, large flat screen tv, DISH satellite, and a carved mantle. The laundry and office area finish off the main level with a full-size front-loading washer and dryer and utility tub. There is also a desk/work area with a printer for your use. Our home also offers WIFI throughout. Also on site are beach chairs and towels, several bikes, a cooler, and IPOD docking station.
Up the stairway (made of ½ logs) you will find wall to wall plush carpet in the bedroom areas. The master bedroom, with a king-size bed, allows you to wake refreshed in the morning while listening to the sound of the water from the waterfall dropping into the pond and a view of Lake Superior and Grand Marais that is simply breathtaking. The second bedroom features a queen-size bed and a large walk-in closet. The third bedroom offers a king bed and a large closet. Each bedroom includes a tv with DISH and DVD player. The bonus loft area also allows for extra sleeping with a full-size bed and a king-size bed. Both bathrooms are full-size, offering double sinks, plenty of counter space, linens, and hair dryers.

Amazing!!!
Absolutely stunning, peaceful, quiet, much needed week to relax. The cabin is perfect. Well stocked and very clean. My family enjoyed our stay. We hiked, saw the waterfalls, did a kayak tour of pictured rocks. Absolutely beautiful views from the cabin. My kids enjoyed the yard games, our own hiking trail around the pond and the wildlife at the cabin. Highly recommend this cabin. Grand Marais is the cutest little town. We had such a perfect week. Loved every minute of it!!!!

Beautiful custom log home on private pristine setting!
Amazing custom log home on private setting overlooking a private pond on property with a beautiful view of the Grand Marais harbor. This home lacks for nothing. Just bring your suitcase, unpack, relax and enjoy. The hosts were excellent to work with and every attention to detail was carefully thought out. The fully stocked kitchen and "extra touch" ammenities were absolutely amazing. I hated to leave my "home away from home" and definitely will plan a return trip next year.

We have enjoyed coming to the UP for many years but have chosen Grand Marais as our home away from home. We love Grand Marais because it is a small community but has a lot to offer all year round! Our favorite things are being able to walk the beaches, bike into town, and see all the beautiful landscape and wildlife. We hope you enjoy and love it as much as we do!!

Why they chose this property

We love the wild life, natural scenery and the ability to access miles of hiking trails in the area.

High end amenities throughout this log home make you feel as though you are in a 5 star hotel. You’ll have the comforts of home yet be able to ‘get away from it all’ but still be connected to civilization if (and only if!) you desire. Top notch furnishing, appliances, local touches and trimmings in this home await your arrival and enjoyment. This three-story home also offers a lower level that is roomy enough for the kids to unwind and play a game of ladder ball or bean bag tic-tac-toe. This home is the most unique and upscale in the area, offering the best of the best and promising memories to last a lifetime!

What makes this property unique

We enjoy the various restaurants that are only blocks away. We also enjoy the local community and their love of the area. We enjoy being close to the town activity but also love being able to 'go to the ridge' and enjoy our family time. Grand Marais offers several restaurants, museums, a hardware store, grocery store, outfitter store (with canoe rentals), a city beach with public bathrooms, a playground, basketball court, volleyball net & marina, a post office, a bank, and several galleries & shops all awaiting your arrival and exploration. Local sites to enjoy include Coast Guard Point, Sable Falls, Grand Sable Dunes, Sable Lake, Log Slide, and AuSable lighthouse that are all within the city of Grand Marais. The local event calendar is very busy during the summer and some of the activities offered are the Splash In (where water planes are allowed to land in the GM bay), the fishing tournament, the 4th of July city party, parade, and fireworks display, the music festival, the Great Lake Kayak Symposium, and the Labor Day Triathalon.

Winter activities include the UP 200 (the dog sled race that goes throughout the UP of Michigan) as well as snowmobiling, ice fishing, cross country skiing, etc. The average snowfall in Grand Marais is over 300” per year!! This home allows you to cross country ski, and snowshoe in and out right from the front door.
