Horsemanship is a skill comprised of many different skills and is a lifetime of learning. For those who wish to learn I offer several different learning environments. This year I have officially added the horsemanship camp stays.

About Margaret Beeman

I am a third generation horsewoman teaching horsemanship to those who wish to study.. I offer workshops, clinics, and private lessons to people seeking to understand their horses better and improve their horsemanship skills. This year I have added another learning environment to my program. HORSEMANSHIP CAMP STAYS will give you an intense dose of learning the skill of horsemanship. Please contact me if you are interested. We do not offer horseback riding or horseback riding lessons to guests. There are 2 stables within 40 minutes drive of the ranch that do. We keep several flower and vegetable gardens and spend lots of time in our kitchen at harvest time. Our dogs, Pete, a Rat Terrier male, and Bessie, an Aussie Shepard female, are fast becoming great ranch hands. My husband and I reside on the property year round. We try and get away seasonally for short vacations.

Margaret Beeman purchased this cottage in 1983

Why Margaret Beeman chose Berkshires

The bunkhouse was originally Margaret's father's residence. It was converted into an apartment in 2005 and was rented to full time tenants until the spring of 2010 when we decided to turn it into a guest house for Margaret's students and a vacation rental. We've taken special care to turn it into a relaxing, private, and spacious experience. The bunkhouse is just what we would want when we get away.

Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway, an intense study of horsemanship, a group outing, or a place to bring the family, The Bunkhouse is a welcome vacation experience. Fresh air and fresh local food including free samples of what the ranch's own garden has ready for harvest.

What makes this cottage unique

The bunkhouse is located at the heart of the ranch which gives you the unique sense of being at the hub of activities while affording privacy. The views from each window are different ranging from horses grazing in pastures, rolling hills and farmland, distant mountains, and the property's gardens and woodland. A walk around the fence lines offers spectacular views of the area farms and woodlands Hike, bike, or cross country ski on the Harlem Valley Rail Trail located less than a mile from the ranch. The trail can take you right into the heart of Millerton or Amenia. The Bunkhouse is only 3.5 miles from the towns of Amenia and Millerton, NY, and Sharon, CT

A Week on the Ranch

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented "the bunkhouse" for a week while exploring the Middle Hudson Valley. It was one of the most comfortable and well equipped small "homes" that we have rented. After touring all day, we looked forward to returning to the peace and quiet of the ranch, horses neighing, birds singing. It was delightful. The kitchen was well equipped so eating-in was a possibility, although with all the great restaurants, we didn't do this too often. Perfect spot, we miss it.

...and the raspberries!!!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I had a fabulous and romantic cycling weekend at the bunkhouse. The house was adorable, comfortable, cozy and clean and only a 5 minute bicycle ride from the Hudson Valley rail trail. The garden just outside our door was full of tomatoes, peppers and so many delicious herbs. We also took full advantage of a wonderful raspberry/blackberry patch at the invitation of our fabulous hosts. There is nothing better than breakfast made with freshly picked vegetables among horses grazing in a beautiful pastoral setting. This place is magical and we cannot wait to come back!

Owner's Response: We are so glad you picked and enjoyed the fresh produce here at the ranch. Sharing the bounty is part of what we like to offer our guests, and we get as much enjoyment as you do from the experience. We'll look forward to seeing you again!

Very peaceful

  • 5 of 5

It was a nice place and had lovely grounds. The foliage was spectacular and the weather was nice. Millerton is a quaint place. The owners were very nice and of course loved the horses out side the bunkhouse. Would go back in a heart beat.

Idyllic Country Getaway

  • 5 of 5

There is nothing more beautiful than to be on the summit of a historic farming area, which is where Broken Wheel ranch/farm is located. My family and I (including two dogs) were lucky to have been there while the snowfall was heavy so the entire farm was blanketed in white snow. The owners were inspiring since they really enjoyed their life at the farm. Margaret is a professional horse woman/cowgirl and she is so nice. A magical scene and provided the serenity that we very much needed from the City;s hustle-and-bustle. There are a number of horses at the farms to appreciate (but not ride). A few miles away is McEnroe farms with great organic food selections. Main street Millerton has a great coffee shop, antique shops and an old school soda fountain dry goods store called Terni's. We bought a Chief Joseph-inspired Pendleton blanket there.

Owner's Response: It was great having folks who enjoyed the snow cover and found beauty and relaxation in mid winter here at the ranch. Ian took full advantage of the kitchen and Dmitri and I enjoyed all the wonderful smells as we passed by! You will have to bring your snow shoes next winter!

Great Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The bunkhouse was everything we hoped it to be...charming, clean, well appointed and quiet with great hosts. We stayed for a week with our dog and had a wonderful time. The bunkhouse even had a vegetable garden that we could pick from. The location is very convenient...close to the center of town as well as to our favorite prepared foods spot, JAM, in Sharon, CT. Our hosts were incredibly welcoming and generous. We'll definitely be back!

Owner's Response: We were excited about adding the Bunkhouse garden this year and so happy it was so well received! We are hoping to add some fruit to the gardens next year and there are always pickles!
