Robert and Rosanne Thornley welcome you to Snowbird Chalet 1. We enjoy skiing at Mt. Alyeska.
The Owner purchased this chalet in 2006
The chalet is a 5-minute walk from Chair 4 at Mt. Alyeska
Mt. Alyeska is a major ski resort with approximately 2500 ft of vertical. In summer the mountain is open for hiking or you may choose to ride the tram to the top of the mountain. There are many other hiking and mountain biking trails originating from Girdwood. Whittier, on Prince William Sound, is about 20 miles while the Kenai Peninsula is about 50 miles.
My newlywed wife and I could not imagine staying anywhere else in Girdwood during our Alaskan honeymoon. The cabin was very large and comfortable, and the neighborhood was very quiet with lots of trees despite being so close to everything in town. It felt like having an entire home to ourselves... but at motel prices. In addition, Bob was quick and easy to communicate with, and Rosanne made sure the cabin was very clean prior to our arrival. We highly recommend staying at The Snowbird Chalet.
The cabin was very nice, well stocked with the necessities and pretty. The only drawback (that you cannot tell from the picture) is that this cabin is in a little cul-de-sac with 5 others. They are right on top of each other and we had a perfect view into the cabin beside us. It still would of been nice had there not been party kids in one of the cabins that were loud and obnoxious tearing up the parking lot at midnight. The first and last nights weren't so bad though and I would stay here again, just maybe not on a weekend when the place is bound to be busier.
Located at the bottom of Mt Alyeska Resort in Girdwood, you are in the center of anywhere you need to go in South Central Alaska (Anchorage, Kenai, Seward, even a short day trip to the outskirts of Denali)
Robert (the owner) is very helpful and accommodating.
If you want the resort amenities , go there but.....
If you are looking for a condo that is lovely, we'll maintained, clean and bigger than you'd imagine, stay here.
2 bedrooms, 1.5 baths and full kitchen so you have everything you need. Less than an hour to Anchorage to load up on your supplies for the week. Although, there is a mercantile in town in case you forget something on the run.
Fyi - go to Walmart in Anchorage (45 min away) for groceries. Best prices!!
The upstairs loft area (which houses the 2nd bathroom & .5 bath) has a wonderful view of the top of Mt Alyeska.
I've looked around before we came here and this is the best value in this area for the price! Book it!!
We had a wonderful time at the chalet. It was great to have a clean, comfy place to stay while we explored the area. The owner was very friendly and helpful. I hope that we can stay at the chalet again on our next trip to Alaska.
We loved this chalet so much! It was very clean and furnished. I loved how roomy it was for a family of 4. You can't get a better feeling of space and privacy anywhere else compared to staying at a hotel! Having 1 and a half bathrooms was convenient. We brought our own board games, but discovered there were already board games there, it was fun playing all of it during our down times in the evenings before bed. It features a big deck for the family to have a relaxing BBQ. We'll definitely be sure to choose this chalet again in the future!
I had a wonderful experience. Very clean an cozy even for six girls. The best was not having to pay per extra people. Very affordable recommend to all.
