Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

You will walk up a short path onto a large redwood deck before entering the cabin. You may not want to enter as you will be so engrossed with the gorgeous view. Fortunately for our guests, the whole front wall is floor to ceiling glass so you can also enjoy the view from inside. The main room is an open format living, dining, kitchen. The west bedroom has a queen bed and the east bedroom has a beautiful handmade twin bed with a pop-up twin trundle. I can also convert the twin beds to a king bed. The living area also has a sleeper sofa with a high quality mattress. The TV has satellite and can be hidden away in a handmade oak armoire with doors that slide in to allow viewing from all corners of the main room. The gas fireplace is shaped like a wood stove and heats the whole cabin with the touch of the thermostat. The interior of the cabin has just been totally repainted and there is a new sleeper sofa in the main room.

It is not uncommon to see elk, moose, bear, deer, snowshoe hare and other wildlife from the cabin and driving through Skywood Preserve. Warning: You may not want to leave this cozy designer cabin at the end of your stay!

Keywords: Guest cabin on 42 acre estate in private gated community. Only 8 miles to the lifts at The Biggest Skiing in America and 2 miles to the Meadow Village and the Gallatin River, a Blue Ribbon trout stream.

Why The Owner chose Skywood Preserve

I came to Big Sky on vacation in 1994 and went home with 20 acres in Skywood Preserve. I then bought the adjacent 20 acres that make up this beautiful estate. The construction of the guest cabin was completed in 1998 and it has been lovingly cared for ever since. I fell in love with the privacy, the view and the proximity to the village amenities (2 miles) and to the ski resorts (8 miles). I love to golf, hike, camp and swim in the summers and still can't decide which season I love more!

Beautiful secluded cabin in Big Sky!

  • 5 of 5

My son and I had a phenomenal trip in Big Sky. A highlight was Laura’s beautiful and secluded cabin. The cabin has everything you need. There are spectacular views from the living room and a large deck with built-in benches. Both beds were quite comfortable, with a heavenly memory foam mattress for the queen bed. The bathroom is beautiful and large. Laura also invites you to use the beautiful hot tub that is adjacent to her home on the property. From your soak, you look out across the valley toward beautiful snowcapped mountains. We enjoyed the remarkably secluded location, only six minutes or so to the village in Big Sky. Thank you so much, Laura!

We enjoyed the secluded and comfortable cabin

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I stayed at the cabin in late February through early March. The property is very private in a gated community, at the end of a winding road. There was considerable snow, but the road was well kept. The cabin was cozy and sufficiently furnished. The drive to the ski area was about 15 minutes. We also drove to West Yellowstone one day for snowmobiling, which took us about 75 minutes due to weather and road conditions. The cabin is just above the owners house. There is a 50 yard climb up the hill to the cabin, so make sure you have proper shoes to do it in snow/icy conditions. My wife did, but I did not. The owners have several larger dogs, but they caused no problems for us. One night the power went out at 2:00am due to the regular tremors that the area is faced with, and outside temps were around 1 degree at the time. Thankfully, the cabin has a gas fireplace that does not require electricity, which helped us immensely since the power outage lasted 12 hours. However, the water system did require electricity and quit working after the tank was depleted. Being in our 60s and frequent travelers, we just rolled with the inconveniences and didn't let it detract us from having a good vacation. Before I rented the cabin, I did not notice that it didn't have a laundry, and we found it difficult to find one in Big Sky, so research that in advance of visiting. All in all, the seclusion and privacy and comfort in the cabin were what we wanted, instead of the typical condo alternative. So we highly recommend the cabin to people of like mind.

Feels like the middle of nowhere, but really it's close to everything.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for a full week in this well equipped cabin. We absolutely loved the privacy and it's close proximity to the "meadow", which had coffee , retail and grocery options. The kitchen was well stocked with everything I needed for cooking our meals.

The beds were comfortable and the cabin was very clean.

The host Laura, was wonderful.

The only thing that we struggled with was hauling our luggage and cooler up the hill to the cabin. The hill is a little bit longer than in the photo and can ice up, which made it quite slippery.

We would absolutely recommend this cabin.
