This great family vacation spot near Key West is in the Florida Keys! Stay in this charming two-bedroom 'Conch Cottage' on a one- acre oceanfront property, surrounded by lush tropical gardens!
Our home is situated about 15 miles from Key West, and features an oceanfront swimming pool and a boat launch and dock!
This is not a 'typical' vacation rental! It was originally built in 1920, but remodeled in 2003. Each cottage is beautifully decorated with unique character. They have all the modern amenities including satellite TV, microwave ovens-- and, of course blenders! Other conveniences available upon request include free use of a washer and dryer!
Tropical fruits and trees including bananas and coconuts grow throughout the property! The cottages are surrounded by gorgeous tropical gardens which are beautiful places to relax and meditate and just enjoy the fragrances and color.
Each cottage has two queen-size bedrooms, and a sofa bed or daybed in the living room that converts to two very comfortable twin-size beds.
This is a great location for families! You can explore the ocean shore by kayak (it's normally very calm because of the reef - Kayaks can be rented near by rentals), fish from the dock, snorkel or dive the reef, or swim in our oceanfront pool! It's all waiting for you!
We're about halfway between Key West and the best beach in the Keys -- Bahia Honda! So whatever you might like to do is just a short distance away! Access to the 'Back Country' and the National Wildlife Refuge is right on our island. Looe Key, the best reef for snorkeling and diving, is just a few miles off our shore.
There's a full-service marina just a mile or so away, if you want to rent a boat. We also have limited dock space available on our property.
We're just minutes by boat to the best diving and snorkeling in North America! Great sport fishing, boating, sailing, and windsurfing is available right from our dock! Sightseeing and shopping in Key West is just 15 miles away.
Whether bicycling or swimming, you'll be in awe of the lush tropical gardens and exotic wildlife that surrounds you. Relax by our oceanfront pool or take a tour of the pristine wildlife preserve in the backcountry! It's a national treasure!
After another memorable day in paradise, let the tropical ocean breeze caress you as you sip an afternoon tea or other beverage in our oceanfront area.
Note: We do not provide any kayaks or snorkeling / fishing equipment. However, you can rent them from several rental places near us.
We left the corporate jungle a nearly a decade ago and searched for a great location to raise our four-year-old son. We found it here in the Florida Keys.
Owner purchased this cottage in 2003
There was only one requirement we had while searching for the right property: It had to have the 'WOW!' quality. As we walked around the property, looked out at the offshore islands from the dock, walked into the cottages, and relaxed in the pool, all we kept repeating to each other was: 'WOW!' We knew right away we had found our new home!
Our property is close to Key West, but far enough away from the commotion and the noise to enjoy the real keys. The reef is less than a half-hour by boat, but if that's too far you can fish right from our dock and grill them up for an evening meal by the pool. Some beautiful offshore islands like Marvin Key are accessible by boat or even kayak! Restaurants and stores and less than a mile away. And the best swimming beach in the Keys, Bahia Honda State Park, is 20 minutes away!
We liked the place, it was clean and quiet, the only thing that I would say disappointed us was the water off the dock you couldn't exactly swim in but it was a deep water area for boats too, and Bahia Honda State Park is just down the road. we will def. come back
This property is in a great location and has great potential. We have never had a disappointing VRBO stay, but this was an unacceptable place to stay due to the condition of the cottage. We rented another place and left. The owner was nice enough to only charge us for the 2 nights we stayed. I would have left the day we arrived if I could have found another place sooner. We have stayed at many properties throughout the keys within the same price range and this is not up to a normal standard for cleanliness and and comfort. The beds and sheets were very uncomfortable. The kitchen and bathroom was dirty and in dire need of a remodel. The furnishings were worn. There was food in the oven from the previous tenant. Of course the natural beauty of the Keys and ocean is right there, but the pool area does not match the photos either and is very unappealing. The owner tried to respond to our complaints to have the place cleaned, but the problem was a sewer smell that was not possible to fix. We realized there was a septic tank right outside the unit and it must have needed service as the smell was apparent when we arrived and lingered whether the windows were open or not. Even if this smell was not there, I would not recommend staying here, unless the owners have majorly redone the interior of the units.
Stayed here the first week of April with my wife and 3 children. We really enjoyed our stay. We have stayed at Venture Out, also on Cudjoe a couple of times and while that was fine, but we liked this property much better. It offers more privacy and is just a nicer setting.
I believe there are 5 cottages on this rental property. Ours was spacious enough, clean and well taken care of and everything worked fine.
The patio area by the water is very nice. We rented a boat from Cudjoe Gardens Marina and parked it at the dock for the week. Plenty of dockage space. Dillon at Cudjoe Garden's Marina handles the rentals, and he was great, quality boats and extremely helpful. Sue wasn't here but Mike and one of his boys were and they couldn't have been nicer. Mike rented jet skis for his son and friend and even invited my boys to join in the fun.
Overall, we were very happy and would definitely stay here again!
The hosts were friendly & attentive to our needs. The cottage is spacious and well equipped. I fished from the pier but caught mostly little pin fish. There were some larger ones caught but not by me. I highly recommend staying here as there are some great restaurants nearby and it is close to Key West. Several guests docked a boat at the pier.
We loved this location. We brought our trailer with our bike for scooting down to the keys (20 mins) and cruising the seven mile bridge (20 mins). Brought our kayaks also. The ramp was the perfect location for launching to get to the back country to view the wildlife . Amazing sunrise and sunsets. The vegetation surrounding the property made you feel isolated from the rest of the world. It was so nice to have a pool and outdoor shower after a day of kayaking. We took the kayaks to Bahia state park for snorkeling. There were beautiful parrot fish at the dock along with lobsters. The cottage was very clean and comfortable. Nicely furnished kitchen and a screened porch. There is a Shopping center in Big Pine key. Also several delivery options. Several paces to eat. This is the BEST location in the keys. You are only 10 - 15 mins from everything and when you come back to your villa you feel at home and safe. The location is gated so no thru traffic to disturb you. Sit on the dock and night fish or just have a cocktail and watch the sunset. And it is so quiet and peaceful. The only issue we had was having to leave! Would highly recommend staying here and will be back again! Thank you Sue for sharing your wonderful property with us.
We just recently brought the boat down to this lovely rental. When we checked in we where greeted by Mike the owner who spoke with me for a few minutes and gave me advice how to safely navigate the shallow waters near the house. He also gave us details on some good eats, where to get my dive tanks filled, an where to get groceries. The property was exactly as described, it was well maintained and clean. Over all we could not of picked a better place to stay, the other people staying there where friendly and it felt a lot more like home than a vacation. We will be staying here every time we are going to the Lower keys.
