About The Owner

IN MAY OF 2010, MY WIFE AND I MADE THE DECISION TO COMPLETELY REMODEL THE PROPERTY WE OWN ON THE RIVER KNOW AS PAPPAWS FISHING PAD.

I LOVE THE WATER AND IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY DESIRE TO HAVE A PLACE ON THE WATER THAT WE CAN OFFER FOR OVERNIGHT RENTAL AND ALSO OUR THREE GRANDCHILDREN LOVE THE OUTDOORS, WATER AND ALL THE THINGS THAT GO WITH IT.

PREVIOUSLY ,THE PROPERTY HAS BEEN FOR MONTHLY RENTAL BUT WE THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE THE BEST USE.

WE NOW USE THE PROPERTY FOR OUR GRANDCHILDREN & MYSELF WHEN IT IS NOT BEING RENTED.

MEETING OUR GUEST AND MAKING SURE THEY ARE COMFORTABLE IS OUR GOAL. I ENJOY , SO MUCH, MEETING THE PEOPLE, HEARING THE STORYS OF THEIR LIFE , WHERE THEY ARE FROM AND ABOUT THEIR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN AND ALL THE GOOD THINGS THAT LIFE HOLDS.

WE LIVE ONLY 10 MILES AWAY BUT THE RIVER IS BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO SPEND FREE TIME - NO PRESSURE AND JUST WATCH THE WATER FLOW BY AND ENJOY LIFE TO ITS FULLEST WITH OUR GRANDCHILDREN AND FREINDS.

IT IS JUST THE RIGHT PLACE TO BE WITH THE NEIGHBORS ON THE RIVER , ALL FREINDLY AND WILLING TO SPEAK AND WAVE THEIR HANDS AS THEY GO BY.

WE ALSO HAVE SEVERAL GREAT COUNTRY EATING PLACES CLOSE BY THAT YOU CAN ENJOY.

PAPPAWS FISHING PAD, ON THE SOUTH HOLSTON RIVER IS ONLY 130 FEET FROM THE WATERS EDGE WITH OVER 300 FOOT OF RIVER FRONTAGE AND YOU CAN WADE IT ALL.

THE RIVER IS APPROX. 150 FOOT WIDE SO YOU WILL HAVE PLENTY FISHING HERE. IT IS KNOWN AS ONE OF THE BEST FISHING SPOTS ON THE HOLSTON WITH A FIREPIT FOR ADDED CONVENIENCE AND A PICNIC TABLE ONLY 3 FEET FROM THE WATERS EDGE.

THE LOWER PROPERTY IS VERY DEEP WATER FILLED WITH RAINBOW AND LARGE BROWN TROUT.

THEY VENTURE UP STREAM TO THE WATERS EDGE PROPERTY THAT MAKES GREAT FISHING.

ALL OF IT IS FAMILY FREINDLY AND I KNOW YOU'LL ENJOY YOUR VISIT TO PAPPAWS FISHING PAD.

WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU.

The Owner purchased this house in 2009

Why The Owner chose Tennessee

AFTER SEEING THE LARGE RAINBOW AND BROWN TROUT ON THE HOLSTON RIVER, MY WIFE AND I DECIDED TO FIND THE BEST FISHING SPOT THAT WOULD ALSO SERVE AS A OVERNIGHT RENTAL OR JUST BE A RELAXING PLACE TO UNWIND. WE CHOSE THE PAPPAWS FISHING PAD'S LOCATION BECAUSE OF THE EASY ACCESS TO THE RIVER. THERE IS LOTS OF SPACE TO WADE AND CATCH BIG BROWN AND RAINBOW TROUT.

THE RIVER FRONTAGE IS THE BEST LOCATION ON THE RIVER. EASY ACCESS WITH PLENTY OF GOOD WADING FOR FLY OR BAIT FISHING.

IT IS JUST A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO BE FOR FISHING, FAMILY FUN, OR JUST RELAXING WITH ALL THE AMENITIES AT PAPPAWS FISHING PAD AND LOTS CLOSE BY.

BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY IS ONLY 5 MILES AWAY, BLUFF CITY 6 MILES,ELIZABETHTON,TN 10 MILES BRISTOL 5 MILES AND JOHNSON CITY,TN 15 MILES AWAY. ALL WITH EASY ACCESS AND GREAT ROADS TO HELP YOU ALONG.

What makes this house unique

WE COMPLETELY REMOLDED THE ENTIRE HOUSE AND PROPERTY IN THE SPRING OF 2010 AND ARE VERY PLEASED WITH THE OUTCOME.

ALONG WITH 300 FOOT OF RIVERFRONTAGE THE HOUSE IS ONLY 136 FEET FROM THE FRONT DOOR TILL YOU PUT YOUR FEET IN THE WATER.

A FIREPIT AND PICNIC TABLE ARE LOCATED JUST 3 FEET FROM THE WATERS EDGE.

THE HOUSE HAS A LARGE DECK AND A CARPORT WITH OVERHEAD FANS, TABLE AND CHAIRS TO WATCH THE WORLD GO BY. THERE ARE ALSO LARGE SHADE TREES ALONG THE RIVER TO JUST SIT BACK AND RELAX AND WATCH THE WATER.

WE ALSO HAVE A RV CAMPER THAT FITS NICELY WITH PAPPAWS FISHING PAD.THE CAMPER IS AVAILABLE FOR PEOPLE WHO PREFER THE CAMPING EXPERENCE WITH ALL THE FEATURES OF A FULLY EQUIPPED CAMPER.

Fishing Vacation

  • 5 of 5

I arrived, late in the evening, with accurate directions. Pleased that it was as as adversized. Owner was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this spot for fly-fisherman because of the big shoal. I found this to be the best place, in the river, to fish under the conditions. I caught forty trout to 20" in one day on drys and nymphs. Thanks Bob, Rick & Warren

August 5th - 9th Rental

  • 5 of 5

This is my second visit to Pappaw’s Fishing Pad. The first visit was two years ago nearly to the day. I met the property owner Bob and was immediately impressed by his warm hospitality and caring attitude, his accommodations were great as well. Pad 1 is great for parties of 5 or less and I really like the upstairs view of the river but Pad 2 is absolutely awesome and can handle as many as 7-9 people and is beautiful. This last visit was a different experience than the first. On my first visit I was only able to fish one day for trout and had the most fun of my life. I caught nearly 30 trout in a 4 hour period and I couldn’t believe it. I had health problems when I came back home that prevented me from coming back last year but could not get the fishing experience out of my conscious. I had been hooked by some of the best trout fishing that could be had and it all took place right at the river’s edge on Pappaw’s lot. I never waded or left the bank – it was amazing. This last visit my brother came with me and Bob (property owner) arranged for us to take a canoe ride from the S. Holston Weir (just below the dam) to the river’s edge of the property. I have been on many canoe journeys but none cut through the mountains and offer the scenery we were gifted with on last Sunday. It was breathtakingly beautiful. On this trip we met some friends (the people around the river seem to know no strangers – everyone is a potential friend) we were getting our fishing license at a local retail store and met a gentleman by the name of Kevin. We asked questions about what we should fish with and where to fish and he helped us tremendously. He also asked us if we were interested in striper fishing and we arranged an absolutely fabulous fishing trip to the exit of the Holston River – at Boone Lake. My brother and I enjoyed two fantastic days of Striper fishing the landed many fish and also allowed us the opportunity to meet two more fine Tennessee gentleman who will, no doubt, become like family in the years to come. The names of the two guys are Kevin and Matt and the experience will be remembered for all our days. Thanks Bob (Pappaw’s Fishing Pad) for again hosting and facilitating one of the best vacations we could have hoped for.

Sincerely,

Mitch

Very comfortable digs, Great fishing

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying at Pad #1 for a week in October. The trip was intended to extend the fly fishing season beyond the limits of our Northern state. The apartment was clean and comfortable with everything we needed to make our stay most enjoyable. The owner even stopped by one night and brought some cookies! The fishing (both floating, wading and just wading out in front of the place) was terrific. Drys in October on the South Holston and Nymphs on the Watauga (floated one day). I would highly recommend the property to anyone wanting to fish the area, as it sits on one of the most productive parts of the river.

What a FABULOUS TWO WEEKS!

  • 5 of 5

We had the privilege to fly fish for two weeks while staying in pad number 1. What a wonderful place we had! This is our way of "Camping": hot water, dishwasher, Kitchen Aid Mixer no doubt! ... Washer and Dryer!!! What a luxury to be away from home and have the capability to keep your clothes clean!

The listing description was spot on including the pictures given. the property was clean and well maintained. The owner was absolutely FABULOUS! We would and have already... recommended the property to several people.

We would recommend the Heartwood in as an attraction along with shopping downtown Bristol.

Can't wait to come back!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had visited Papaw's when our fly fishing club booked it in June...it was awesome. So in August we got another trip going and decided to stay there. Bob was more than hospitable...we stayed downstairs fro 3 nights and there was 7 of us. Very comfortbale, clean and spacious. We had a ball from fishing to eating. The kitchen ladies...is stocked with everything imaginable! Kitchen Aid, George Foreman Grill, Convection oven, every kind of kitchen utensil you would think of needing is there! Of course there is also an outdoor grill. We definately plan on coming back here again and again. The location couldn't be any more perfect for relaxing but more so the fishing. If you've got the time this is a place to stay at, you won't be disapointed.
