This beautiful home was completed in November, 2009. It is situated on a 20-acre estate, which is a mixture of pasture and forest. The Mountain Goat Trail, a paved hiking and biking trail borders one side of the property. The adjacent property line borders the Domain of the University of the South. The center of the campus is about a mile away. Across the highway is Saint Andrews-Sewanee School, a private Episcopal prep school. Both schools offer many events throughout the year, including concerts, live theater, and sporting events.
There are numerous sightseeing possibilities here on the mountain, from South Cumberland State Park to Sewanee Natural Bridge and the Sewanee Memorial Cross. Within an hour's drive are the Tennessee Aquarium, Jack Daniels Distillery, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, Stones River National Battlefield, George Dickel Distillery, Rock City, Ruby Falls, Russell Cave National Monument, and the Unclaimed Baggage Center.
Master bedroom #1 has a king bed, convertible to twins, and a bathroom featuring a bidet. Master bedroom #2 has a queen bed and private bath. Both bathrooms feature low-threshold showers and grab bars throughout. Bedroom #3 has a queen bed and bedroom #4 has a full size. These two bedrooms share a Jack & Jill bath, with a tub shower.
The house was built to be accessible to the handicapped. There are no steps, and all doorways are 36' wide, to accommodate wheelchairs. There is a handrail the length of the great room and the kitchen features a side-opening oven. A shower chair and walker are available if needed.
I spent most of my adult life moving around the country, working various seasonal jobs for the federal government, as a wildlife biologist, park ranger, water resources technician, and mail carrier. My interests are travel, hiking, biking, and blues music.
Marcia Medford purchased this house in 2009
My parents both grew up here in Sewanee. I moved here in 2005, to renovate and occupy the old family homestead. The new house was built in 2009 for my mother and my aunt but has been used as a short-term rental since then.
The property is situated between the University of the South and Saint Andrews Sewanee School, so is very convenient for activities at either one. Being on the Mountain Goat Trail, it is possible to walk or bicycle to Sewanee or Monteagle.
Terrific home near Sewanee. We had plenty of space. House is clean with a well-appointed kitchen. Loved the sunroom. Very quiet and relaxing. Agree with previous reviewer...Marcia, the owner, was very gracious and accommodating. We are all ready talking about coming back.
House is in a lovely setting, very close to University of South, and 'the Mountain Goat Trail' is just around the corner. House is clean and comfortable. Owner is gracious and responsive.
Everything is as described. Plenty of room to spread out. Excellent location close to campus and Sewanee activities and restaurants. Right on the mountain goat trail which is why we chose it. We brought bikes and rode everywhere. The only time we got in the car was to go to the Fiery Gizzard trail and Tracy City. A nice level ride either direction. 1.7 miles to the Sewanee village and 3.3 miles to the grocery and Other stores at I 24.
This house was the perfect place for the family together fora wedding. Everyone had enough space and it was fully equipped to accommodate a large rehearsal party. Everyone oohed and awed at the amenities. Even the large garage allowed for spillover with guests. It will be our go to place for the next big gathering!
Our Alaskan family rented this lovely, spacious home while preparing for and attending our daughter's wedding at the University of the South, just a convenient mile away. This place was beautiful, clean and fit our needs perfectly. The large well equipped kitchen was great for food storage and prep. There was a freezer available for the frozen fish we brought for the reception. The extra frig in the garage worked wonderfully for keeping the wedding flowers fresh and gave our family florist room to work with the flowers. The king bed made up into twins for the two young men and the couple with the baby had a roomy suite. We needed a high chair and our hostess located one for us. It was a quiet setting we all really appreciated after spending 3 days and nights in busy Chattanooga. Some of us spent some time exploring the nearby trails. We only wish we could have stayed another day or two to just relax.
Property is adjacent to Mountain Goat Trail for walking, jogging, biking.
