About the property

Studio, Studio + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3))

. The casita is a romantic place. Very peaceful and serene. The wildlife is abundant. If you sit quietly, you might see a variety of animals come to the watering hole. We have been visited by Harris's hawks, great horned owl, coyote , deer and many hummingbirds and other birds that I need help to identify. There are 3 patios each with a unique view. Many of our guests eat breakfast outside on the front patio in the cool mornings.

There are many hiking and biking trails that begin from the front door or just a short drive away. We are three miles to the Desert Museum and Old Tucson Studios. 20 minutes into downtown and 45 minutes to Nogalas, 15 minutes to casinos.Going over Gates Pass will bring you right into the downtown area.

The casita is very private. Has it's own driveway, entrance and fenced area. It is separate from the main house. The property is six acres of pristine desert.

We updated the casita adding a gas stove/oven and new cupboards and closets to make it more efficient for our guests. There is plenty of room for storage so you can put that suitcase under the bed and forget about it until you are packing for the trip back home.

About Anita

I am a native of Massachusetts and have lived my entire life in the New England states before moving to Tucson in 2004. Tucson is so very different from New England that i have had to create a whole new way of life for myself. I joined the Desert Museum and started learning about my new and different surroundings. Gardening is still a challenge for me. Probably 50% of what I plant will die. My wardrobe has shrunk to nothing heavier than a light sweater and more shorts than long pants. I never leave the house without sunscreen and a jug of water.

I still have so much to learn. That is the fun part. I love seeing an animal or bird that I have never seen before, then finding out all about it. That is wonderful and exciting.

Anita purchased this studio in 2005

Why Anita chose Tucson

My husband grew up in Phoenix and has always wanted to live in Tucson. We purchased this property many years ago thinking we would retire here. We ended up here years before retirement but that's another story.

We built the casita first and lived there for one year while my husband was building the house.

We both love the casita. It feels like our tree house or a getaway of sorts. It is there that I started learning all about the Sonoran Desert. Looking out over the desert toward the mountains and dreaming. I learned that it only takes a small bowl of water to draw many animals and birds in to drink. I learned to sit quietly and things would come to me. I could watch birds building nests in cactus, then listen when the babies squacked endlessly for food. I still wonder how doves teach their young to be so very quiet and to not even blink when a roadrunner is prowling about.

What makes this studio unique

This property has the feel of total seclusion yet it is near enough to civilization so you dont need to worry.

Outside living is a must here. The front patio is our favorite. It is elevated enough to create a unique view of the desert and the mountains.

The back patio is not covered so this is great for star gazing. The best part of that is that there are no mosquitos! Really! We can be outside for hours and no buzzing and stinging.

Relaxing Place

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed our time in the desert. The casita was very comfortable and the location suited our needs perfectly. We were right by Saguaro West and the Tucson Desert Park which allowed us to not have to drive more than a mile or so for some of the best hiking in Tucson. A perfect get-away place. Anita and John were super friendly and attentive to our experience.

Anita and John are wonderful hosts

  • 5 of 5

The casita was just right for us. This is our second time staying at the Adobe Casita. It is very cozy. The addition of a more complete kitchen really was an improvement that made the casita even better. The setting is gorgeous. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets, with wildlife right out the front door. The location is perfect for us. It is 5 minutes from Saguaro West National Park and 10 minutes from the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum - two of our favorite places. It is also easy to get to the city for restaurants, sightseeing and such.

Lovely place!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this wonderful casita two nights, February 23 and 24, 2017 and it exceeded our expectations by far. We loved the location...so close to the Saguaro National Park, remote but not far from Tucson at all. The surrounding landscape is breathtaking, with the beauty of the Sonoran Desert all around. It is very private and quiet. The interior was much larger than I expected and very tastefully decorated. This is a perfect location for nature lovers, people who enjoy being off the beaten track, love the Saguaro National Park, love birds, etc. We have no complaints at all. This is definitely a great place to stay.

Anita , John and their lovable four legged Sadiki are caring and wonderful hosts. We really enjoyed the week we spent there. If we ever get back to Tucson I would not hesitate to stay there again. We really enjoyed all the birds and wildlife.

A great place to stay in a great place to play!

  • 5 of 5

I've stayed here a few times and have really enjoyed the view of the mountains, the desert life, and the nearby (biking distance) MTB trails. Saguaro West has a huge network of trails to explore. Tucson has a really cool downtown and is close enough for a night out but far enough to really feel like you're out in the desert. There are great kitchen amenities and satellite TV in the casita when you would rather relax. The roads are easy- I was able to drive around in a compact car. John, Anita, and dogs are great hosts. I would definitely recommend this spot for a couples get-away or for a small group of mountain bikers, climbers, and nature lovers.

Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with our 11- and 13-year-olds over spring break and had a wonderful time, exploring the nearby Desert Museum, Saguaro Cactus National Park, and Tucson Mountain Park. The Casita is a nature-lover's delight, tucked away on a quiet gravel lane west of Tucson. Birds, including a roadrunner and hummingbirds, and lizards abound. Unfortunately, it was a little cool for snakes, but we did manage to see one gopher snake while night-driving on a nearby paved road. Our 11-year-old son managed to noose several lizards, which we delicately released after taking photographs. Because of the nearby Kitt Peak Observatory, outdoor lights are regulated, making for a fairly dark sky and great nighttime star gazing.

Anita and John are great hosts with a great place. We can't wait to get back in the future!
