Casa Selva y Sol, means Jungle and Sun, and here you can enjoy both! Casa Selva y Sol in Sayulita is located upon a quiet hilltop on the north side of the village, surrounded by jungle and offering ocean views from all levels of the home. A quick descent of eighty yards, and you are only 4 blocks from the beach and just 8 minutes to the Plaza. The gated & private road secures Casa Selva y Sol which is accessible by car or foot.
In a neighborhood of million dollar homes, Casa Selva y Sol is the happy medium, offering four levels of living space and includes an additional level with a jungle fire pit gives you that secluded jungle feel. Inside, you will find handmade Parota wood furniture, local art, stainless steel appliances in the Palapa kitchen, Serta mattresses and Egyptian cotton sheets and towels. There is purified water throughout the house. Open air living with the bedrooms having meshing over the windows for bug free evenings and sleeping.
Exquisite, huge views of the Pacific Ocean, surf break, the village and unforgettable sunsets combined with a four story floor plan allows guests separation, with three patios, and living spaces attached to each bedroom on different levels with their own entrances. Having the bedrooms and living spaces on different levels offers privacy and allows separation when desired, and of course everyone can come together for meals or pool time.
Pool Level, First Bedroom: Heading up from the fire pit brings you to the private plunge pool and patio along with the 1st level bedroom with bath. The queen size bed offers a view of the Pacific just past the pool; when you awake the ocean can be seen while still under the covers. The sitting area also offers a sleeping area for a guest or child with its sofa and chair. The bathroom has a travertine shower, handmade copper sink and Italian Carrera Marble counter.
Street Level, Master Bedroom: On top of the garden level is the street level with the spacious master bedroom, master bathroom and covered terrace sitting area. The hand-carved head board for the king size bed almost distracts you from the ocean view through the large accordion doors. Without moving in bed you can see the Pacific Ocean through the old growth jungle. The low ceiling in the master bedroom offers a cozy and quaint sleeping area while the master bathroom is spacious and royal. The tile and granite flooring, Italian Carrera Marble counter, double hand-pounded copper sinks and double-headed shower with a pebble floor, invites a couple to live on vacation like royalty.
Kitchen Level: Above the master floor is the kitchen level, offering a covered and open-air dining room with antique lighting, Parota dining table for six and a bar top for two. The kitchen is equipped with stainless steel Frigidaire appliances, utensils, blender, coffee maker, pots, pans and the kitchen sink has garbage disposal and a view of the Pacific Ocean. The entire kitchen area is covered with an 18 foot Palapa roof which has super unique lighting and ambiance at night for cooking and entertaining.
Top Floor Patio: Walking up from the kitchen to the top floor patio brings you to one of the most private and detailed views of Sayulita’s coast line. Just steps away from the coffee maker or blender, makes this the patio perfect for morning java or an evening cocktail.

We are Jeff and Theresa; our daughter is Rachel. Here are a few words to describe us: travellers, foodies, sports, and family.
We are travellers by nature and luckily our work in Calgary, Alberta allows us to enjoy a fair amount of it. Though it has been great experiencing all that the world has to offer we are thrilled to be setting up some roots in Sayulita.
We love great tasting food, and I love cooking. Luckily this is a great combination. We get to enjoy it daily.
Theresa Newby purchased this house in 2012
Why the Owner Chose Sayulita
We fell in love with Sayulita; It is a one of a kind place! It has such an eclectic mix of personalities, and yet somehow it all meshes into a wonderful experience. This is felt at the beach, the stores, the restaurants, and even the walking through the neighborhoods. The beach goes on for miles and is great for walking. The waves are big enough to keep you entertained at all ages. The stores are made up of a variety of artisans that are great at their crafts. We are never disappointed in the one of a kind pieces that we can find here. The restaurants have great ambiance and food! We have found some of the best Mexican flavors here, and still have the ability to have Western fare when desired. There is enough here to keep us busy, yet somehow always stay relaxed.
The value of this property is in the atmosphere.
It has a great location; close enough to walk to the beach and plaza, yet far enough to enjoy the privacy, as well as the peace and quiet this house offers. It is high enough in the hills that you can enjoy the fantastic views from any level of the house as well as the cooling ocean breezes.
We are on a gated road with protected old growth palm trees as our neighbours.
The open air design of the house offers great outdoor living and yet a feeling of privacy when desired. A truly wonderful feeling.
Sol y Selva was a magical casita on the hill. It was in 3 parts - kitchen & deck, bedroom 1 and bedroom 2 with pool outside. Spacious. The walk up the hill is for real, but good for your glutes or easy if you have a car or golf cart. We wanted to be closer together as a family and made do with that. Perfect for two couples. KICK ASS view!!! Well kept, quiet, secluded and super awesome to sleep outside with the birds and hear the sounds of the village. Sweet Sayulita.
We had a great time at Selva Y Sol. The walk up and down the hill to town only took about 10 minutes and the location was quiet and private. It was very hot while we were there but the ceiling fans and breeze kept the house cool enough and the bugs away. Bed was comfortable and everything worked. We would certainly stay again.
This house was perfection! It is a modest home with incredible views. It is about a 10 minute walk to everything. The hill into town is no joke, but the privacy, peace and quiet and views are well worth it. My husband and I shared it with my parents which it is perfectly designed for. Everyone had a lot of privacy and we could not hear each other from room to room but there were great areas to all hand out together. We spent most of our hanging time together on the very top deck because the lounge chairs were comfortable and the views were incredible. The birds singing every morning and most of the day were spectacular. For being so close to everything you really feel like you are alone at this home. The accommodations were modest but very comfortable. They offer everything you need including beach towels and a fully equipped kitchen. The beds were comfortable and the multiple fans in each bedroom made each hot day and evenings enjoyable. The home was very clean and it was a great bonus to have someone come in and empty the garbages and wash the dishes half way through our week. Theresa was incredible helpfully and responsive during our stay responding to my messages promptly and with answers every time. We felt very safe. The pool is delightful. Small, just for cooling off, but perfect for several people to sit around in and relax. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to adults looking for a perfect house at a great price. Sayulita is a sweet little town that makes you feel welcomed and is easy to enjoy. The people of the town were wonderfully welcoming and enjoyable. The main beach can get quite busy so I suggest venturing to the close-by areas or just walking down the main beach for a few minutes for more tranquillity. Don Pedro's is a delicious restaurant perfect for dinner by the ocean at sunset. Mary's is a hidden gem for breakfast right by the square. We had a fantastic vacation!
Check in was a breeze. The house was what we expected from the photo's. It's a short walk or drive to the beach and center of town. We often drove and found great parking just before the bridge. Traffic and parking are tough after the bridge. The kitchen was equipped well with pots, pans etc, but was poorly equipped with any food stuffs. Plan on bringing every thing you will consumer including oil, herbs, napkins, paper towels.
The rooms of the house were all very nice, but they were all on different floors with an outside staircase between. This was a bit inconvenient, but we got used to it. Great views from all levels. Nice to have the small pool.
We recommend it.
Listening to the waves crashing on the beach all night was magical! The house was near enough to town to be convenient but far enough to have reprieve from the Easter celebrations. It was comfortable and airy with excellent views and amenities.
Theresa was very helpful and efficient and the information she readily provided on all aspects was excellent. We would go back!
My partner and I spent a week in Casa Selva y Sol in late January 2016. I would say that the description of the house is accurate. We liked the location, the comfort of the rooms, the views, the many places in the house to hang out, the outdoor spaces, the comfortable bed and furniture. It was quite, close to town but we were not disturbed by the noise of Sayulita, and private. To us, it seemed liked a luxurious place to stay.
The owner was responsive, when we had a problem with internet connection, and she cleared up the problem quickly...The password in the house information flyer didn't properly capitalize some of the letters.
It was clean, well appointed and would recommend to my friends and family.
I didn't give it 5 stars for the following two (mostly minor) reasons:
1. Most of the living spaces do not have an interior connection. This is good if you want separation from others in your group (like two couples sharing the house), but if just one couple, like we were, then it seemed like we were opening and locking exterior doors a lot as we moved from the bedroom to the kitchen/dinning area. This isn't a big deal, but if you stay here for a week you will see what I mean.
2. There is a steep climb up to the house. We are hikers, and fit, and it wasn't too bad for us, but the first day when we arrived in town by bus and walked up with our luggage it was tough. The climb up gives the house the great views, but just be aware that it is something that you will be doing a number of times during the week.
(Also the propane grill was broken when we were there).
Again, I would give 4.5 stars if I could, as this was a wonderful house to stay in, a great town, and we had a memorable trip.
This is a great rental home in a nice secluded setting a ways above town and the noise of Sayulita's night life. The hike up from town is steep, but the pool is great to cool off in after the climb. The house is well maintained, with only minimal problems encountered. There was no hot water in the shower of the lower bedroom, a small inconvenience. The biggest inconvenience is the lack of bathroom in the upper level requiring a trip down to one of the bedrooms to use the facilities. Possibly it was the time of year, but the no-see-ums (tiny biting flies) were horrible at dusk and into the evening! The views of the ocean and town are fantastic and were much enjoyed. We also really enjoyed watching the iguanas that live in the trees at eye level from the deck and the pair of Orange-fronted Parakeets that appeared to be nesting in one of the palms just off the deck. The many fans were appreciated. The house could be provided with a few basic cooking amenities for the renter's convenience. We left salt, pepper, cooking oil for the next renter's. All-in-all, we enjoyed the house and the location a great deal, and were really glad to have the pool.
There is also Jungle Trail Running, ATVs, Whale & Dolphin Watching, and a fire pit on property.
