We are a family run business that believes each of our guests is part of our family or 'crew', as we like to say. Many return year after year and have made Blue Door Cottages 'their place' for the summer. We would be honored to have you stay with us and join the crew!

There is no better summer vacation spot. Not only do you have the lake (Lake Shafer), you also have Indiana Beach Amusement Park, and one of the oldest drive in movie theaters in the country, not to mention numerous other activities. Located an easy 2 hour drive from Chicago, or 1.5 hours from Indianapolis- there is no better, more authentic 'summer experience' around.
This property is the best of all worlds. It is a 5 minute drive to the Amusement Park, yet far enough away from all that chaos and it is peaceful and serene at night. You have the lake, and pool, as well as great waterfront bar/restaurant directly across the street with the best views on Lake Shafer.
This is literally the worst place I have ever stayed at before. I would rate this as a zero if possible. The owners were terrible, they charge you fees for the most petty stuff (my friends had pretzels outside by their front door ... that constitutes a fee!?), they talked negatively about their "cleaning lady" the moment I checked in (red flag!), they make up rules as they go (butting into our conversation about wanting to do water balloons, banning us from doing so? ... unprofessional, creepy and rude!), their pontoon boat was broken and the dock was completely broken down and unsafe and the place was dirty - I had no towels in my room and there were bugs everywhere!!!
This is an excellent spot for families. The rooms are extremely nice and clean. The resort is just across the street from the water. You can boat, fish, and swim in the summer. A great place for campfires, swimming, and plenty of things for the kids to play on.
There were seven of us using two cottages . The lake was quite calm for kayaking in the morning and fishing off the dock was a hit for the children. Later in the days we rented the pontoon belonging to the resort and rode all around the lake. The men went golfing at Tippecanoe CC while the rest of us lingered over coffee watching the children in the pool and doing fishing off the dock. We thought our cottage was fresh and decor was inviting; beds were very comfortable. The children got movies from the office for night time while the adults had time around the fire pit. The management was very accommodating. This is great time for bonding with your children without screen time.
Nice, clean cabins with every thing you need under one roof. The grounds were fun for all! There were plenty of outdoor activities in and around the area being so close to the lake. It was a great value! We will most certainly go back.
We had a reunion of old friends here and booked up more than half of the cottages (there are a dozen or so, I think). Booked in the fall so we could do campfires and be able to get so many of the cottages. The cottages are small but really nice and comfortable. Plenty for what you need. We tried 2 other places around the lake in prior years and almost everything else around the lake is really old vintage cottages and not at all upgraded and newer like these. Fun little place and friendly operators. Only complaint would be that they have no beach, but they have a pool and the lake is actually right across the street, so it's fine. By far the best thing around Lake Shafer that we've found, especially for a big group.
We were so pleasantly surprised by this quiet little vacation spot. The cabins are fantastic and very spacious. They were super clean too. There is so much to do for the kids right there on the property - our kids loved walking over to fish. It was very safe and clean as well. There is plenty of room and we even had a group football game with dads and kids.
We also loved the fire place at night - that was a blast.
